THE MOST HOLY TRINITY First Reading: Proverbs 8:22-31 God created Wisdom before he created the earth or the skies. This spirit stood beside God every day until the earth was complete, then "found delight in the people of the earth." This indicates that the spirit of wisdom was later personified by Jesus. Second Reading: Romans 5:1-5 Paul says that we are now at peace with God through our faith in Jesus. We also hope to see the glory of God. This hope will not leave us disappointed because of the love God has shown in sending us the Holy Spirit. Gospel: John 16:12-15 Jesus tells the disciples that when he leaves them, a Spirit will help guide them to the truth. This Spirit will an-nounce what he hears from Jesus, rather than speaking on his own. Everything God has also belongs to Jesus, which is why those things announced by the Spirit will actually come from Jesus.

ORDINATION TO THE DIACONATE With gratitude to Almighty God, the church of the Diocese of Providence invites you to attend the Ordination of Mr. Stephen M. Battey, Mr. Jean Joseph Brice and Mr. Brian J. Morris to the Order of Deacon. This joy filled celebration will be held at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 10 am. The Most Rev-erend Robert C. Evans, Auxiliary Bishop of Providence, will preside. Please pray for these men as they continue their journey to priesthood.

ST. THERESA FINANCE COMMITTEE The St. Theresa Finance Committee will meet on Mon-day, May 23rd at 6:30pm at St. Theresa Rectory.

ELECTRONIC GIVING What do I have to do to set this up? Many of you al-ready pay your bills electronically – this is no different. Contact you banking institution to set this up. The bank will send your parish a check for the amount you have indicated on the day you have selected. Some people do this weekly, others monthly. But I won’t have anything to put in the collection bas-ket. Starting with the next budget envelope packet, there will be a box to check off on each envelope that reads “I gave electronically”. You can use this to place in the collection if you choose. What benefit is there to electronic giving? Giving elec-tronically on a set schedule not only makes is easier for you it also assists the parishes when planning budgets. The budget packet will also be a budget aid to you, letting you know in advance when there is a special second col-lection for the parish or a Diocesan or National collection.

The mystery of the most Holy Trinity, which we cele-brate this weekend, is a basic doctrine of Faith in Christianity, understandable not with our heads but with our hearts. All prayers in the Church begin in the Name of the Holy Trinity and end glorifying the Trinity. All Sacraments are administered (we are baptized, confirmed, anointed, our sins are forgiven and our mar-riage blessed and our Bishops, priests and deacons ordained) in the name of the Holy Trinity. Church bells ring thrice daily, reminding us to pray to the Holy Trin-ity. We bless ourselves, and the priest blesses us, in the name of the Holy Trinity.

St. Patrick, the missionary patron saint of Ireland, used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity. The story goes that one day his friends asked Patrick to explain the Mystery of the Trinity. He looked at the ground and saw shamrocks growing amid the grass at his feet. He picked one up one of its trifoliate leaves and asked if it were one leaf or three. Patrick's friends couldn't an-swer – the shamrock leaf looked like one but it clearly had three parts. Patrick explained to them: "The mys-tery of the Holy Trinity – one God in Three Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit - is like this, but more complex and unintelligible.” St. Cyril, the teacher of the Slavs, tried to explain the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity using sun as an exam-ple. He said, "God the Father is that blazing sun. God the Son is its light and God the Holy Spirit is its heat — but there is only one sun. So there are three Persons in the Holy Trinity but God is One and indivisible." During the Mass, try to notice how many times we make the sign of the cross. Think about the words. Lis-ten, too, for other prayers throughout the Mass that honor the Holy Trinity. Of course, the creed is probably the most obvious, but you will find others that give voice to our belief in and adoration of the Holy Trinity. Let us pray to the Holy Trinity to guide us in strength-ening our unity, let us also see the Most Holy Trinity as a model for how we are to live. Just as the three per-sons of the Holy Trinity are perfectly united in a one-ness of love, we are called to live in ever-greater love and unity with God and one another. Have a blessed week.
