Mrs. Workman’s class was the classroom with the most participa-

Dismissal Time at Huber Ridge
Please know we have reached out to Blendon Township
and the district for additional help with our PM traffic
flow issue. In the meantime, please adhere to the fol-
lowing reminders:
If you get out of your car, you must be in a legal parking
spot on the street or in our parking lot.
If you are in the line of traffic, and we ask you to move
up, we will make sure your child gets to you. Also,
please stay in your car so that you can leave quickly
once you have your child.
DO NOT pick up your child in the middle of Buenos
Aires Blvd. This is a safety issue.
The cut-out in the curb in front of the building is for
BUSES ONLY.

Summer Reading Program at the
Westerville Public Library
The Summer Reading Program kicks off on May 28, 2015 at the Westerville Public Library. The program will continue until July 31, 2015. Check out the Li-
brary’s many fun and mostly free Summer Reading events at the Library or on their website at http://www.wpl.lib.oh.us/ .
From the Clinic: The clinic keeps a sup-
ply of clean pants for
students who have ac-
cidents at school. Our
supply is running out
in the smaller sizes for
both boys and girls. We need sizes 6, 7, 8 and
10. If you have any pants that you can donate,
please send them to the school clinic with your stu-
dent or drop them off yourself. We appreciate the
help! Thank you.
FROM THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER,
MR. AHERN:
Kindergarten through third grade students are finish-
ing up learning the basics of juggling
with scarves. If this is something your
child is interested in, they could use tis-
sues and/or plastic grocery bags to prac-
tice. These light objects fall slowly to
the ground, thus allowing your child to experience
more success.
Fourth and fifth grade students are par-
ticipating in indoor tennis. They are cur-
rently trying to get as many hits as possi-
ble back and forth over the net so they
can get a lot of repetitions. They are
also working on communication (calling
the ball).
Helping kids
adjust to daylight
savings
In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 8th, we
“spring” forward one hour and effectively lose one
hour of sleep that night. While adults tend to adjust to
this fairly easily, it can sometimes take school aged
children a little longer. Below, you will find some
helpful hints in making this transition as easy as possi-
ble for everyone involved: -Starting a few days before the time change, adjust bedtime
by 10 or 15 minutes each night. While your child might not
actually fall asleep, it will get their body
used to winding down and being ready for
bed.
-If the light outside is an issue, consider
getting curtains or putting a sheet over the
windows to make it as dark as possible in
their bedroom.
Remember, when it comes to bed time, consistency is
key. As long as you keep to a consistent routine, every-
thing should be back to normal in a week or so!
Notes from the Lunch Room Concerned about lunches during Lent? Friday lunches are currently meatless lunches.
Upon returning from Spring Break, we will not allow any lunch loans for the first week back (April 6-10, 2015). Please check your child’s account to ensure they have the appropriate funds.
If your student has borrowed money from the lunch room, please remember to promptly bring in the money to pay back the loan.
No lunch loans will be made in May as the Food Service balances their accounts. Please be sure that your child has lunch money avail-able or a packed lunch through the end of the year.
Music Notes from Rm. 113 Hello Huber Ridge Families! I have listed a few things that you can
ask your child about below.
First Grade: We are practicing keeping a
steady beat. We are also singing songs, play-
ing music games, and playing instruments.
Second Grade: We are practicing rhythmic ele-
ments: ta, ti-ti , and ta rest. We continue to prepare for half
note. We are singing Cut the Cake, Naughty Kitty Cat, and
Acha Bacha.
Third Grade: We are practicing melodic elements: La, So and
Mi. Rhythmic elements: ta, ti-ti, ta-rest, and half note. We are
preparing melodic element “Do”. We are singing Who’s
That, Bim Bom, and Long-legged Sailor.
Fourth Grade: We are learning about the Treble Clef in prepa-
ration for playing recorders. We continue to prepare for Do,
Re, and Mi.
Fifth Grade: Composer News: G.F. Handel Students are re-
viewing the Treble Clef, drawing Treble Clef signs, learning
about Time Signatures, and writing notes on the staff.
In the Art Room with Mr. Britton:
As you may have noticed, very little artwork has been brought home this year. The students have been keeping artwork at school for the upcoming Family Arts Night. Students are going to select an artwork to display at the school during the event. Then they will bring home their remaining works of art. Meanwhile, we are continuing to explore art concepts, materials, and different cultures at every grade level. Also, Mrs. Gauen's P.M. kindergarten class begins art class for the first time this month!

Pennies for Patients: It is once again that time of year... Huber Ridge will be participating in the Leu-kemia and Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients Campaign. The drive will run from March 2-20. All money collected will go to Central Ohio families or to-wards research to find a cure! Remember EVERY penny counts! Throughout the campaign we will be having numerous spirit days to help with donations. A
calendar will be sent home in your child's red folder and we encourage all to participate! Our goal is to raise $2,000 during the 3 weeks- if we reach it, Mr. Blados will grow out his hair and let the teach-ers of the winning grade level cut it! Thank you to all who support this wonderful campaign!
Dates of Fun Events for Pennies for Patients:
March 3: Cap on Cancer—donate a dollar to wear a hat in school March 5: Team Up Against Cancer—donate a dollar and wear your favorite’s team clothing March 10: Guess the Amount– Give a quarter to guess the amount of candy in the jar. All
Arts
Night:
On Thursday, March 19 from 6-7:30 pm,
Huber Ridge will host its family All Arts
Night. Students with their parents can travel
around the building and participate in differ-
ent stations that promote the arts. After com-
pleting a station, be sure to get a stamp on
your passport. You can earn a chance to win
a prize after you complete your passport.
Making instruments, singing, dancing, creat-
ing art projects, and an open mic lounge are
just a few of the fun things that we will have
going on that evening! All families are en-
couraged to attend and enjoy a fun evening
with friends and staff!
Kindergarten for 2015-16
Kindergarten 101 is March 10th in the evening at either
Hawthorne or Fouse. Both programs will be the same.
A Somali interpreter will be present at Hawthorne and a
Spanish interpreter will be available at Fouse. Childcare
will be available upon request by calling 797-5934.
Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, the Westerville City
School District will offer an All-Day Kindergarten option. The All-
Day Kindergarten Program (ADK) is available to WCS families
living within the district boundaries. Seats will be filled through an
additional application and lottery process to determine placement.
For info regarding All-Day Kindergarten, please visit
www.wcsoh,org/ADK.
Half Day Kindergarten is still free! Our current half-day pro-
gram meets the needs of our students. Full Day Kindergarten
costs $300 per month and there is a sliding fee scale for free and
reduced lunch. The full day program will give the students more
time and is recommended.
There will be 4 kindergarten classrooms at Longfellow and 6
other schools will have each 1 All-Day Kindergarten class. If a
child goes to Full Day Kindergarten, they will return to their home
school for 1st grade and beyond.
If your child is a currently enrolled Westerville City Schools’
preschool student, you do not have to re-register with WCS, alt-
hough you are encouraged to pick up informational materials to
familiarize yourself with Kindergarten-related opportunities and
activities. This information will be available at Kindergarten 101
and in the elementary buildings, the ELC, and the Enrollment and
Family Resource Center. Mr. Blados would be happy to answer any
questions or concerns about Kindergarten for next year.
