The Chemistry of The Sun

Page 2: The Chemistry of the Sun

History• Well, the Sun has been around for billions of years

so… instead here is a little chain of events that led to the realization that the Sun is a star.

• It all started with my man Anaxagoras, this guy told everybody that the Sun is a star. But the Greeks went all Apollo on him and sent him to jail.

• One after another, geniuses getting shut down (by the Church really) on their (logical) explanations.

• Until a man by the name of, you guessed it, Galileo Galilei used a telescopes and said, (paraphrasing) Questo non è un pianeta che voi ragazzi..., This isn’t a planet you guys... He was later convicted of Heresy andwas put under house arrest for the rest of his life.

History• Things are really going to start to heat up now…• Johannes Keplar made up some Laws of planetary

motion to put the sun in the center of our solar system.

• Christiaan Huygens was like hey guys, Sirius (The Suns best friend) is just like the Sun except just really far away! And people listened to him…

• And now the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the Man, the Legend, the Great FRIEDRICH BESSEL!!! This man determined that other stars are just as bright and hot as the Sun thus, *get

ready* The Sun is a Star Not him

History • Based on the last slides, the times were

very far apart, however the church was quite the factor don’t you think?

• Societal need to figure it out? Why were there so many people trying to figure out the nature of the Sun? Other than maybe trying to harness its power and rule the world and/or gain fame, that’s a tough question.

• The Sun is the arguably the most Natural thing in our whole entire Solar System.

Chemical Composition• Alright so I am made up of:

• My active ingredients is the Hydrogen. But later, when I want to blow up I’ll use my helium and BOOM.

• I am composed of only simple elements so there is no structure or chemical names. Like I said I’m all natural.

• I am healthy for you in moderation.

• However, I can cause skin cancer.

• I am great for the environment, however once again in moderation.

Page 6: The Chemistry of the Sun

Chemical Composition

• The Sun is really just a ball of hydrogen.

• As soon as it runs out of hydrogen it will have to use helium.

• When that happens it will rapidly expand and engulf the first 2/3 planets

• Then it will implode on itself.

Page 7: The Chemistry of the Sun

Use and Societal Impact• I feel very used. I never even get a thank

you….

• We use the sun for many different things.• Such as energy, via solar panels• To get tan, via the UV rays it gives off• To heat ourselves• To Cook food

Page 8: The Chemistry of the Sun

Use and Societal Impact

• So this is how it all goes down.• Step 1: Take two hydrogen (moving at high velocity)

• Step 2: Smash them together (Fusion)• Step 3: BOOOOOM = energy + helium (not an actual equation but it gets the point across)

• The sun plays a role on everything you can think of. Without the sun there would be nothing.

• The Earth would be a ball of Ice and Darkness.

Some Selfies

^I was really mad^Love me for who I am on the inside

DEFAULT!

Page 10: The Chemistry of the Sun

Creativity

• We should make a thermostat for the sun.• We should be able to use it as a weapon.• We should be able to harness the suns energy to

create WMDs I mean what…• We should have it last forever happy Gio?• It should double up as a disco ball.

Other Relevant Information

• The Sun has about 6billion more years to live before it implodes.

• The Sun will become a Red Giant
