2016- 2017 OFFICERS
VOLUME 13 ISSUE 5 Greetings Members: As we move into August, I hope all of you are managing this extreme heat, and enjoying your summer. Carol and I really enjoyed our time at the National Convention in Houston, Texas. It was extremely exciting, informative, and a lot of fun. I wish all of you could experience that kind of excitement. To see and meet Elks from all over our great nation, thousands of people with a common goal, it’s no wonder the Elks is such a great organization to be a part of. We should all stand tall and be proud of being an Elk, especially a New Jersey Elk. But be most proud of being a member of Bordentown Elks Lodge number 2085. Not only are the New
Jersey Elks well known across the nation, Bordentown Lodge is also well known across the nation. Thank you all for affording me the opportunity to represent our Lodge. Please continue to support all of our committees. AND REMEMBER, THEY CAN ALWAYS USE MORE VOLUNTEERS. PLEASE CONSIDER LENDING A HELPING HAND. Fraternally yours, Carmen Adonizio Exalted Ruler Whose Motto is: Working in Harmony for the Betterment of Those in Need.

Hi members, it has been a very hot July. I hope eve-ryone is taking it easy during the heat wave and drink-ing lots of fluids! I would like to thank the Can Do committee for the great job they are doing, the lodge is looking better every week. The trustees are looking for help on weekends for some small jobs around the lodge. Every weekend a few officers get together and pick a few jobs to do, mainly in the mornings and only for a few hours. Any member is more then welcome as we can use the help. Please contact myself or Ger-ry Vaughan, or Jack Becker to let us know if you are interested. We are going to call on Committee Chair-men that use the walk-in cooler and freezer soon so we can clean and organize the food and keep track of the date it was frozen and whom it belongs to.
Thank you

I see that everyone is enjoying the 6 TV’s. That is fan-tastic! Baseball season has begun, yes we have all the games, with our Direct TV package and Fios service there is a good chance your teams game is televised, so come on out and enjoy!
With the help of several committees the A/V committee has over $4000 toward the Surveilance System. Chairman Bill Johnson presented us with a check for $500 from the Special Youth Activities Committee and just recently a $2000.00 donation from the House Committee thanks to ER Carmen Adonizio, and his committee’s hard work last year making a record profit for the house.
More money is still needed, but with $4000 we can start to move forward with the Board of Directors in deciding what plan of action to take next.
Any committee or person who would like to help by donat-ing money is greatly appreciated.
Meetings are held on an as needed basis, anyone interested in helping with the committee can contact me @ 609 298 9191

Veterans Bus trip to Delaware Park, September 3rd. Bus leaves at 10am pay $35 get $30back. See Charlotte Elmer for reservations. Americanism Signers of the Declaration of Independence Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Their story. . . Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ran-sacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army; another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants. Nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educat-ed. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress with-out pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His posses-sions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton , Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Mid-dleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his chil-dren vanished. So, having enjoyed your 4th of July holi-day, take a few minutes and silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid. Remember: FREEDOM IS NOT FREE As always, thanks to all who have donated coupons, thanks to all who support our 1st Wednesday of the month dinners and thanks to all faithful bingo players who sup-port our bingo ticket sales. We could not do what we do without your support. Ongoing projects:*Collecting sample size toiletries, books, batteries, CD’s, DVD’s and all occasion greeting cards for Vineland and the troops and The Mission of Hon-or donations. . Also, manufacturer’s coupons to send to our enlisted families overseas. They can be 1 – 2 months past date when we send them. If you could take a few minutes, cut them out and divide them between food (anything you swallow, meds, etc.) and non food it would be a great help

Public Relations is looking forward to sharing with our community the wonderful events the hardworking committees are hosting! To do this we need infor-mation well before an event. To help we created a form that is on the bulletin boards, in the bar and it can be emailed to anyone. ANY FORMAT WITH THIS INFORMATION WILL WORK The form shows you what information we need. For ease on the committees it does not need to be this exact form, if the committee would prefer to give me a flyer they have, email me or drop the information in the mailbox that would be greatly appreciated!
