THANKING YOU
To my fellow Rotarians, I wish to take this opportunity to thank you all so much for my PHF. It was so
unexpected, I must be a real blond, because even when I arrived and my husband Len was there I still had
no Idea of what was to come. I am thrilled to bits by this honour and thank you all most sincerely. I will not
be in attendance at Rotary for the Month of May, it is not a matter of taking the PHF and running, I will be
on Annual leave and I am off to the USA for the month. I look forward to catching up with you all at the
beginning of June. Once again Thankyou all so much.
Cheers.

Thanking You The Rotary Club of Croydon recognized the services of Richard Gilham by making him a Paul Harris Fellow at its 42nd Charter Anniversary held on 28th April 2015. The recognition was to acknowledge all the P R roles he has filled in the club for the last three years, for introducing four new members to the Club this year and for his support for the Rotary Foundation. Thanking you all for your support over the last three years. Ross and David you are keepers.
President’s Report
The focus of our 42nd charter anniversary was the Rotary Exchange program, as this
is the community program that our club has been involved in consistently since our
charter. Technically, it is a youth program, but the exchange program has drawn
together our members as sponsors, counsellors, host families, and parents. Our 40
incoming and outgoing students have impacted on our community and the
community of the host countries but, above all, the program has changed the lives of the students
themselves, as we heard from Andi Snelling, Kelly Bevan, Penny Mentiplay, Elijah
Rowlands in person, and Victoria Johansen by email. It was fitting to hear the message from our only
charter member, Hank Romyn, in which he told us of his family’s experiences of hosting the very first
exchange student to our club in 1974,Yukihero Ishikawa, from Japan, and the long‐lasting friendship that
sprouted from that. I am sure that all our current and past members who took part in the exchange
program, whether this was at Croydon, Chirnside Park or at district level, can relate similar glowing stories
and thereby inspire others who have not had the same exposure to the program.
I was honoured to award two Paul Harris Fellow recognitions at this special night: to Julie Olney for club
service and her community work as manager at Le Pine’s funerals and to Richard Gilham for bringing social
and other media to our club, proposing 4 new members, publishing the Chronicle, for his organisation skills
and his overall enthusiasm for Rotary. Huge Hugs around for our incoming President!
The future looks bright, as we reflected on our past inspired by the theme of the night: “looking back to the
future”.
