Newham Islamic Learning Centre Family Eid Outing to

Shoeburyness Seaside in Essex.

On Thursday 15th of August NILC took

over 20 families to Shoeburyness beach

for a family Eid celebration. The aim of

this outing was to promote family cohe-

sion and togetherness as well as to pro-

vide new experiences for families and

children. We wanted to give people an

opportunity to do something new,

which they wouldn’t have had the op-

portunity to do otherwise. Out of the

families who attended, none had been

to Shoeburyness before and at the end of the trip, every one said they would feel confident in returning to

the same beach independently.

Shoeburyness though near in distance, in nature is far from the hustle and bustle of Southend. We found a

picturesque, relaxing and welcoming seaside town. While we relaxed on the grassy embankment, the chil-

dren were able to freely run around the play area and beach, without us fearing we would lose sight of

them. The walled sea lido provided an opportunity for us to amuse ourselves in the sea water even when

the tide was out, and many adults and children made the most of this! It was an incredibly serene and tran-

quil environment which was so easy and quick to get to! Thank you to all those who came and made our trip

a success

“It was honestly amazing, we had our

own family time which was great! My

husband is definitely going to drive us

down here again!”

“The seaside trip was wonderful, the best

bit was swimming, the nice things were that

there was a lot of water you can nicely go

in, and at the end you can look for crea-

tures which is really fun, I saw a crab. We

can make a rocky sand castle. Going to the

park was really cool and fun! Climbing up

and down the rocks was really fun. Having

our friends there was better than just going

We asked some of the younger children to write about their favourite player, and why they are inspired by them, the following are some extracts from the responses we received. From this we can learn the

MY FAVOURITE PLAYER

qualities our children admire and aspire to, which have been triggered by participation in football.

“Rooney is my star player. Rooney is

my favourite football player because

he sets a good example for me

to learn from. I think Rooney scored

the most goals in Man United last

Season. If I saw Rooney, I would ask

him to teach me some skills.” Elvis

(To the tune of London Bridge is falling down.)

Allah is the greatest

La illaha il Allah

Allah is our Lord,

He is master, He is king

Plants and animals bow down to

him,

He is al Malik

Allah is the creator,

Creator creator.

Of The whole world in its entirety,

He is al Khaliq

Allah He knows everything

Everything, everything,

Every leaf on every tree

He is al Alim

Allah He sees everything

Everything, everything

We can’t hide from Allah.

He is al Bashir

Allah He hears everything

Everything, everything,

Even when we talk quietly, (whisper)

He is as Samee

Allah gives us everything,

Everything, everything

Money, food and family.

He is ar Razzaq

Allah He protects us all,

Keeps us safe, away from harm

Allah looks after us.

He is al Muhaymin

Allah responds to all of us

He hears us pray, knows our

needs

We make dua only to Allah

He is al Mujib

So let Him see us do Good things

Say Good things, giving thanks to Him

Let’s all be good Muslims,

Worshipping Allah.

CREATIVE DEEN TEACHING YOUR CHILD ISLAMIC CONCEPTS AND VALUES THROUGH ARTS AND ACTIVITIES

Creative Deen 2, Summer activities club was run from 19th to 22nd

and 26th to 29th August.

We believe Children learn best through being actively involved,

through doing and experiences that will InshaAllah be entrenched on

their memory. “Learning through play” is a well documented and

researched teaching philosophy which we aim to utilise to benefit

our children's Islamic upbringing. As well as Islamic activities, this

holidays we aimed to step up a gear, introducing an integrated cur-

riculum which spanned “Islamic” and “secular” learning. This as we

know all knowledge comes from Allah. Islam is not separate from the

every day world, and we aimed to demonstrate this to the children

we teach and help them develop their natural curiosity for learning,

and critical thinking, by showing them that subjects do not always

have to be compartmentalised in to “deen “ and “dunya”. Here are

some of the things we did over the past two weeks:

We learnt about Angels, their names and duties. As we know angels

control the weather, we then made kites, talked about how to meas-

ure the weather and learnt the dua for strong winds.

We learnt about Allah as Al Khaliq, and the sings of Allah being all

around us. We then made collages of the beauty in Allah’s Creation.

After this we learnt about the life cycle and plants of a part as a dem-

onstration of the perfection of Allah’s creation.

We learnt about how animals also worship Allah. We studied spiders

and made spiders webs, told the story of the elephants, and the spi-

der from The Seerah, and we practiced Surah Fil.

We learnt about the status of parents in

Islam, and we made cards for our mums. We also talked about

rhyming words and poetic devices, and wrote poetry about our

mothers.

The children learnt about tawheed, and how Allah is without need,

and they made posters, to let others know about this!

We learnt about the first revelation, and how the first command sent

in the Quran was “iqra”. We then used stencils to make Iqra artwork

And learnt how tom make tissue paper flowers.

InshaAllah we will be continuing Creative Deen workshops in the half

term, and also have plans to offer workshops for homeschooling

children.

Marvellous Minibeasts

Many of Allah’s signs all around us

are unmissable, such as the stars,

the sun and the mountains. Other

signs are smaller, but when you

look closer are just as astonishing!

Let’s take a closer look at one of

these – minibeasts.

Spectacular Spiders

Spiders belong to the arachnid family. This

means they have 2 body segments, eight legs,

and their skeleton is on the outside.

Most spiders spin webs to catch food. Even

though they can have up to 8 eyes their eye-

sight is not that good. So when an insect gets

caught in the web they sense the vibrations

with the tiny hairs on their legs, to lead them

to their prey. Then they wrap the prey in silk

to stop it struggling or getting away!

Spiders also don’t have any teeth, so they

can’t chew or swallow. Instead they have

poison fangs that they use to inject their vic-

tims with venom. This turns the target’s in-

sides in to liquid that the spiders then suck

up! Eugh!

There is no need to worry; this poison does-

n’t work on humans. Most spider venom is

too weak to hurt people. However some

spiders, such as the Black Widow have strong

venom that can kill people if bites are left

untreated!

Spider’s silk is very special and is used for

many different jobs. The Bolas spider fishes

with its silk. When it spots prey, it swings

out a line with a sticky glob at the end and

that sticks to the wings or body of their next

meal. The silk can also be used for egg sacs,

to form shelters and to help the spiders

travel.

Spiders help the environment by eating lots of

insects that would otherwise be around in

your garden and homes.

Fantastic Facts

Crab spiders can change colour in order to

camouflage themselves. This allows

them to sneak up on unexpecting prey

without being spotted!

The Madagascan Darwin’s Bark Spider can

make webs which are 25m wide and stretch

across rivers! No one knows how they man-

age this!

Larger spiders can catch animals as large as

bats, mice, fish, birds and even snakes

with their strong webs.

Spider’s silk is 5 times stronger than steel of

the same thickness! It is the

strongest material in the

world. Scientists haven’t

been able to recreate this

design even with all the

technology we have today! Scientists have found fossilized spiders

trapped in amber in that are around

2 million years old!

Spiders In The Quran - The name of the

Surah Al Ankubat, means “The Spider”. In this

Surah Allah SWT says “The parable of those

who take protectors other than Allah is

that of the spider, who builds (to itself) a

house; but truly the flimsiest of houses is

the spider’s house;- if they but

knew.” (29:41) This means that protection

from anything other than Allah is like a spi-

der’s web, which can easily be broken.

Spiders in Hadith - When the Prophet

SAW and Abu Bakr RA were making hijrah

from Mecca to Madinah, a spider made a web

on the entrance of the cave in which they

were hiding to fool the bounty hunters that

were searching for the Prophet SAW. The

bounty hunters saw the web and thought that

nobody could have got inside without disturb-

ing the web, so they left without searching

the cave. Even spiders recognise Allah as their

Lord and Muhammad SAW as the last and

final messenger!
