Have Mercy on Us, O Lord A Prayer Vigil of Reparation and Petition

All Catholics are invited to an evening of prayer before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to ask for His mercy upon His Church in this moment of profound crisis. We come to make reparation for our own sins and those of our bishops and priests. We come also in confident hope that from Christ’s mercy will come the purification, healing and restoration of holiness for which we long.

Twenty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time September 2, 2018

FOCUS: Jesus, who is the fulfillment of God’s laws and prophets, tells us how to live out God’s com-mandments.

Today, we think about the best way to live out God’s commandments, passed on to us through Moses, by witnessing God’s blessings and presence in our midst. We can go beyond our human traditions and rituals by washing our hearts and getting rid of evil thoughts and desires. We practice it by caring for all who are vulnerable and in need.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the first reading, Moses calls on God’s people to witness God’s bless-ings and presence in their midst by keeping his laws and commandments. In the second reading, James asks God’s people to follow the Word of God and not the ways of the world. In the Gospel, Jesus warns the Pharisees, scribes and the crowd not to simply observe human tradition and rituals. Rather, they need to look into their hearts and clean out evil thoughts.

REFLECTION: When God wants to address a per-son in the Bible to cause a life change, or stir up reli-gious fervor, God addresses the heart. The heart is where God gives insight and places a burning desire for God’s ways in a person. When God wants to go to work on a person, God goes straight to the heart.

So we ask ourselves:

• Do my prayers flow from my heart, with deep feelings for God?

• Would I describe my heart as open to what God may be saying to me?

Bible Study is Back! October is the month of Mary and the Rosary and to celebrate, we will begin the series ‘Bible and the Virgin Mary’ on Monday, Oct. 1 at 7:00pm in the Convent basement. Cost is $20. Please contact Sr. Bernadette by Sept. 21 at 267-831-8046 or [email protected].

The planning of Centennial activ-ities for our parish is underway. Committee members have been meeting and ideas are flowing. We are planning a Cultural Event celebrating the first 50 years of the parish for May 5, 2019, AND WE NEED YOUR HELP.

A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 19 at 7:00pm in the convent basement to begin the plan-ning of the first Cultural Event. We will concentrate on the German and Irish cultures who were the first pa-rishioners of St. William Parish. Anyone interested in helping with this event is invited to the meeting. DOMINGO, SEPTIEMBRE 2, 2018 DOMINGO 22 - TIEMPO ORDINARIO
