St. Theofane: Prayer the Root of all Things

Accustom yourself to pray this way and, God grant, soon you will nur-

ture true prayer in yourself. Then there will be no need for rules. Labor,

or nothing will come of you. If there is no success in prayer, then there

will be no success in anything. It is the root of everything.

Scholar Club Series A

Week #30—#186 Edward Fonseca

THE BRUNCH IS HERE!!!

Brunch 6/29, Twelve Acres 445

Douglas Pike, Smithfield, RI

02917-2352 We will put a bal-

loon at entrance. Check in 12:30 PM,

brunch served at 1:15 PM. Let your

captain know if you are attending.

TUITION AID

Every year the Scholars Club enables us to give tuition aid to the children

of active parishioners attending Catholic schools. This is also greatly

enhanced by a generous contribution from the Holy Name Alumni As-

soc. Please remember that to r equest tuition aid for your children,

you must be active parishioners of Holy Name, registered in the parish &

attending Mass here on Sundays and Holy Days with your children. You

must also be members of the Scholars Club. This is in no way a burden

on the parents, since they normally receive many times over what is giv-

en to the Scholars Club. They should also be concerned that the aid

awards can be even larger. Please remember that this money is used

ONLY for tuition aid to Catholic Schools.

Adult Preparation for the Sacraments

Baptism, Confirmation and the Holy Eucharist

A new group is being formed for adults who have not yet received the

Sacraments of Initiation. This would include all those who would like to

know more about the Catholic Church before taking the irreversible step

of being joined to Her. If you are an adult who has not been Baptized or

Confirmed please sign up at the entrance of the Church or Chapel. Clas-

ses will begin in August.

Pray for the Persecuted *

Shame on our Politicians

Forced islamization reigns in the

provinces of Nineveh and Mosul

(Iraq) now occupied by the mili-

tants of ISIS (Islamic State of

Iraq and the Levant). The islam-

ists are passing out copies of the

new code of conduct inspired by

a radical interpretation of Islam-

ic law whose principle victims

are Christians and women. The

code, with 16 articles imposes

the death penalty on anyone who reneges on Islam, obliges women to not

leave their homes and all Christians must pay a minimum monthly tax of

$250.00 dollars. The Catholic Patriarch of Chaldeans in Bagdad has

already reacted in defense of the 500 Christians remaining in Mosul.

Most of them are now unemployed and cannot pay the amount demand-

ed. These demands are similar to the ones imposed in territory that this

group occupies in Syria. Besides threats there are areas where the de-

struction is already visible. In Mosul two Churches were vandalized and

then torn down. Fear for the future will only increase if there are contin-

ued volunteer re-enforcements of the jihad from Saudi Arabia, Yemen,

Chechnya and Afghanistan. This

group is known for its violent icono-

clasm: destroying all bell towers and

Christian symbols, as well as all

kinds of statues, images and paint-

ings that reproduce the human face.

The Bagdad Patriarchate is trying to

alert the world about the tragedy of

these Christians: if they resist and

stay in the region they risk losing

everything they possess even their

lives. The only choice left is conver-

sion to Islam or expulsion.
