August 30, 2015 Message from the Pastor:

In today's Gospel, Jesus accuses the religious leaders of being hypocrites. The word “hypocrite”

comes from an ancient Greek term meaning “actor.” The leaders act as though they are speaking

for God but they are really speaking about what matters to them. Jesus points out that they are

more concerned about pious practices than they are about God's commandments. They criticized

Jesus' disciples for not washing their hands before eating but they showed no interest in the

goodness of the disciples' hearts. Jesus teaches that religious rules and regulations should never

become more important than God's people. He wants us to understand that our outward

behavior should reflect what is in our hearts. A good heart will not produce evil actions. Nor will

washing our hands make us clean inside where it really counts.

St. James tells us in the second reading “Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you

and is able to save your souls.” This is an important message for everyone but especially our

youth who are going off to school, college or starting a new job after a wonderful summer. Mark

gives us a whole list of things that can happen when one’s heart is not in the right place, and many

of them are the things that young people become enslaved to under the guise of “freedom” as

they begin a new time in their life. Freedom is not simultaneous with irresponsibility. We must

choose Jesus and always keep Him central in our lives.

With Labor Day soon upon us next week I thought it would be a good time to ask for some of

your feedback. Having been with you at Immaculate Heart of Mary for 7 months now, I’d really

like to hear from you on any comments, suggestions, or issues you’d like to share with me. You

can write me directly at [email protected] . All correspondence will be confidential and come

directly to me. With our Centennial Jubilee busy activities also soon approaching I want to

ensure any issues – insignificant as they may seem – are not overlooked but addressed by me.

EVERYONE is a vital part of Body of Christ and our Parish family and I welcome hearing from

you!

God Bless You and have a wonderful end of summer!

Fr. Jacek

Care 4 Creation… It is gift from God

“..To be stewards of creation, To thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and To implore his help for the protection of creation and His pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live…The annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation (on September 1) will offer individual believers and communities a fitting opportunity to reaffirm their personal vocation.” Pope Francis We pray We implore Your help, as we seek to reflect Your care and protection for Your creation; We ask for Your forgiveness for the ways we fall short in our creation-care calling, including the sins committed against the world in which we live (Isa. 24:5). Help us by the power of Your saving grace and the guidance and encouragement of Your Spirit to be conformed to the image of Christ in our care for Your creation (Rom. 8:26-29). creationcare.org

Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. Bl. Mother Teresa

Centennial Tidbits

“Let not our celebration … remain only an historic milestone. Let it be, rather, a spur and a stimulus to live our faith to the fullest. Let the example of the pioneers of our parish – an example of sacrifice and commitment to the faith – find fresh expression in the lives of the people who constitute today the Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” Father Eugene Palumbo SDB 9/1/1991
