How do YOU belong, participate and contribute to our Community?Have you thought about mentoring at one of our local schools? The school year has just started, so this a great time to start men-toring a student at a school near you. The Winter Garden area has six elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school. Our community also has a number of charter and private schools.

At West Orange High School, the majority of the Freshmen stu-dents participate in a mentoring program via HOPE classes. These students have better grades, better attendance and fewer referrals than those not participating. Many students do not have an op-portunity to talk to an adult about real life concerns and problems. You, as a mentor, will help the students in all aspects of life.

What grade level appeals to you? Go to www.wintergarden-fl.gov to find the contact at West Orange High School, and our other local schools, to begin the new school year off as a mentor!

We currently have three locations in the historic downtown and one location at Tanner Hall. The cost to use any of our stations will initially be FREE until activity increases. The City of Winter Garden received these Coulomb Technologies ChargePoint electric vehicle charging stations through a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. The grant objective is to accelerate the development and production of electric vehicles to substantially reduce petroleum consumption, reduce greenhouse gas production and create jobs.

Winter Garden is leading the way among Central Florida cities in being one of the first to install electric vehicle charging stations for its residents and visitors. These stations will provide a nice boost to our ongoing sustainability efforts and be ready for the electric vehicles that will soon be a significant part of our first green mobil-ity system.

While many communities focus on mass transit as a way to achieve multi modal goals, the City of Winter Garden focuses on pedestrian and green-friendly alternatives.

Golf carts and electric scooters are allowed on designated streets and throughout the downtown district.

PROvIDING sAfE DRINKING WATER Is ONE Of ThE cRUcIAl fUNcTIONs Of ThE

cITY’s PUblIc sERvIcEs DEPARTmENT.

Three treatment plants purify your water (on average, 6 million gallons per day) with sodium hypochlorite, a common disinfecting solution.

Although fluoride is not added, it is present in your water through the erosion of natural deposits at a rate of 0.95 ppm (parts per million).

On rare occasions you may notice that your water has an unusual taste or odor. A common cause is a dirty hot water

heater. To avoid this, flush your heater periodically and turn it off when you are away from home for an extended time.

Water filters under sinks and in appliances are another common culprit. Replace them regularly, as per

manufacturer instructions. These simple steps will resolve almost all taste and odor complaints.

For further information, contact Michael Cotton,

Water Treatment and Pumping Division Superintendent at

407.656.4111 ext. 2017 or [email protected].

Little Shop of HorrorsBook and lyrics by Howard AshmanMusic by Alan MenkenProduced by TheatreWorks Florida

OCTOBER 14 - NOvEMBER 6Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, Sundays at 2 pm

Seymour loves two things: a beautiful, way-out-of-his-league girl named Audrey and interesting, un-usual plants. As a down and out floral assistant, he never dreamed that discovering an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood would turn him into an overnight sensation! Little Shop of Horrors is an affectionate rock-n-roll spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies that will have you laughing and dancing in your seats.

Tickets: $26 ($22 seniors/students)
