ASAP shows...ISLA to win...
The Institution of Ser-vant Leaders in Action (ISLA) Party, headed by standard bearer Zadieshar Sanchez, started disseminating its plat-forms in different colleges and dormitories last July 11.
Unlike the previous years where the party platforms served as the assets of the running parties in getting the trust of the CLSU stu-dents, the platforms of the ISLA
Party will serve as their initial plans as the incoming USSC officers.
The ISLA was the lone party who filed their certificate of candidacy last July 6 and needs only one vote to win in the USSC elections on July 19. (See related story)
In the posted platforms of ISLA, it was stated that the USSC will issue a financial statement and a newsletter to be released every semester.

tration will also study the ques-tionable fees collected each col-leges and will create a strong linkage with the student or-ganizations in the university.
“Mas malaki ‘yong pres-sure sa amin ngayon kasi hindi namin puwedeng sabihin na es-tudyante ang nag-decide. Hindi namin puwedeng sabihin na kaya kami nandito kasi binoto nila kami,” Sanchez said during an in-terview with the CLSU Collegian.
The University Electoral Board (UEB) decided not to extend the filing of candi-dacy because they already gave two weeks for the as-piring parties to arrange their papers for candidacy.
“Hindi naman tayo puwe-deng magpatawag ng exten-sion. Siguradong magrerekla-mo ‘yung kabila. Isa pa, wala namang nagpapatawag ng ex-tension,” Prof. Ernesto Jimenez, UEB Chairperson, said in the board deliberation last July 6.
Eventhough ISLA party will
automatically win all the USSC posts, the UEB still required them to undergo the process of campaigns per rooms, col-leges, and dormitories for the sake of gaining the recogni-tion and trust of the students.
Instead of the scheduled meeting de avance on July 18, a forum will be held in the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA) to test the eligibility of ISLA on leading the USSC.
The audience and panelists in the said forum will comprise of representatives from differ-ent colleges to be led by the CLSU Collegian and the UEB.
“Oras nila ngayon, darating ang oras na kami naman. Hin-di natin madidiktahan ang isip ng mga estudyante kung sino ang dapat iboto,” she added.
She said that eventhough there is no ASAP Party mem-ber in the incoming set of of-ficers of USSC, the ASAP Party can still help and serve the CLSU students.
She also said that they will watch the decisions and pro-grams of the incoming USSC officers and will fight for the rights of the students if they see that the incoming USSC officers will not do their du-ties and responsibilities.

Ang Institue of Servant Lead-ers in Action (ISLA) Party ang na-tatanging partido na nagpasa ng kanilang mga certificate of can-didacy sa gaganapin University Supreme Student Council (USSC) election nitong July 19. Sa kada-hilanang ito, ang pinakamataas na posisyon sa USSC ay magmumula na naman sa nasabing partido.
Sa loob ng limang taon, ang mga namuno at mamumuno sa USSC ay nagmula sa ISLA bukod kay Raffy Fajanela na nagmula sa partidong Student Coalition for Advo-cate Politics (SCAP). Sa panahong nanalo si Fajanela, ito ang pana-hon kung saan ang nagnanais na tumakbong Chairperson at Vice Chairperson ng ISLA ay huma-rap sa ilang isyu na nagresulta ng kanilang hindi pagtakbo sa mga nasabing posisyon. Sa nasabing taon, walang tumakbong miyem-bro ng ISLA sa dalawang pinaka-mataas na posisyon sa USSC.
Nagsimula ang pamamayag-pag ng ISLA sa pulitika ng CLSU sa panunungkulan ni Jayson Marzan. Kung tutuusin, simula nang nagpatakbo ng mga kan-didato sa USSC Chairperson ang ISLA hindi pa sila natalo.

Marahil, hindi man halata, ito ang paulit-ulit na nagaganap sa USSC. Ang proyekto na sin-imulan ng dating Chairperson ng USSC ay ipinagpatuloy lamang o pinaunlad ng sumunod na admin-istrasyon. Ang sirkulo ay paulit-ulit na lamang na nagaganap.
Wala namang masama kung ipagpatuloy ng mga susunod na administrasyon ang magagan-dang proyekto ng nakaraang ad-mnistrayon. Ang hindi lamang ka-tanggaptanggap dito ay ang mga sumunod na administrasyon ng USSC ay hindi na umisip at bumuo ng panibagong proyekto at pro-grama na maaari nilang sabihing proyekto nila at hindi proyekto ng iba na pinagpatuloy lamang nila.
Ang kulturang ito ay ang kultura na nagaganap sa ating gobyerno. Ito na din ang isa sa mga pangu-nahing dahilan kung bakit walang nagaganap na pag-unlad at pag-babago sa ating lipunan. Ang kai-sipan na pagpapatuloy ng mga na-simulan ng iba ay isang kaisipan na mahigpit na nakatali sa parali-tikong tradisyonal na pag-iisip.
Malapit nang maideklara ang mga bagong opisyal ng USSC na lahat ay nagmula sa partido ng ISLA. Panibagong henerasyon na
naman ng mga opisyal na maililista sa mahaba-habang libro ng Dinastiyang ISLA.
At sana, sa bagong ad-ministrasyon ng USSC, kumawala sila sa kultura ng mga adminis-trasyon na nauna sa kanila. Hindi man ito ang huling henerasyon ng Dinastiyang ISLA, ito na sana ang unang administrasyon na nagmula sa ISLA na iisip na bagong proyek-to at programa na nakaang-kla sa pana-panahong pangan-gailang ng mga mag-aaral.
“So what?” These two words may sound harsh and arrogant depending on the context where it will be used. I’ve been schooling for almost 16 years now and in my 4th and hope-fully last year in college, it is only now that I learned that the question so what? is the only thing I have to bear in my mind to understand and appre-ciate the essence of what my teachers are teaching me. The best examples are the complicated math subjects which made every CLSU student burn their eyebrows to pass. Sometimes, I can’t help but ask whether math subject is really complicated or the teachers are making it hard for the students. Who will ever want to lis-ten to a professor facing and discuss-ing the white board the whole time?
And after the entire semester, they don’t even have the time to tell their students about the immediate appli-cation or essence of what they are teaching. So what if I pass Math100?
So what if I learned to solve all the angles of a triangle? Isn’t the es-sence of learning is to appreciate the application of all the knowledge we acquire in real life? One thing I am certain of is that all the subjects we are taught have importance in one way or another. The problem is the framework of the minds of some “educators” whose goal is just to fin-
ish their syllabus in one semester. Instead of encouraging students to realize the worth of studying, they are being pressured to merely pass or get high grades. Again, so what?
So what? Probably, this is also the question running in the minds of the students in this year’s University Su-preme Student Council (USSC) elec-tions. The university was struck when the Institution of Servant Leaders in

the attention of the new leaders to widen the involvement of every single student in their projects.
I salute the past projects of USSC which molded a lot of lead-ers in the university. On the other hand, where are they now? Have they immediately loss inter-est in serving the students? Or most of them are just not see-ing of the essence of being a stu-
dent leader in the campus? Before valuing leadership, it is natural to ask what is it for? And if this is not well shown in the past leaders, ev-eryone else will lose their interest.
Unless the new set of USSC officers will answer the question “so what?” in all their activities, students will con-tinue to be passive. Ironically having no rival in the upcoming USSC elec-tions is the hardest burden of ISLA.

he past term of Ms. Genesis Acuña highlighted the spirit of servant lead-ership as she promised from the start her term in the University Supreme Student Council (USSC)last August 12, 2010. Now that her term is about to end, the marks of journey in their quest to achieve excellence in their responsibility of serving the university especially the students are visible?
The 13th Congress of Campus Leaders (CCL) held on September 4 and 9, 2010 at the CLSU RET Am-phitheatre with a themed “Moving as One 13th Congress: Attaining Prog-ress in Unity and Collaborative Action,
Members of the 13the CCL pro-posed the revision on the Collegiate Student Body Organization (CSBO) Constitution for the further develop-ment of the USSC its constituents, the members of the 13th CCL lessen the number of the members of the said council to reach the quorum easily, to give equal representation between SO, College Council Presidents and to create the University Block Presi-dent Council (UBPC) to organized the representation of block presidents. Revision of some articles pertain-ing to USSC Election and qualifica-tion of aspirants were also changed, sections regarding resignations and

In terms of helping the needy students, the USSC created the USSC Scholarship and Stu-dent Emergency Loan program.
The converted the Student As-sistants’ monetary incentives into a scholarship that could cater five CLSU students who are not capable of shoul-dering their matriculation, in exchange of the scholarship given by the USSC they will render services in the Stu-dent Center Computer Service (SCSC) and the Bike for Life Service (BFL).
Series of activities were conducted by the USSC to make the celebra-tion of the Lantern Parade and Pro-gram more memorable. Their main reason in pursuing these innova-tions and conducting this said ac-tivity is to create an event which will convert the busy nights of the CLSU community into a livelier one.
The USSC with the help of the Ev-ery Nation Campus Ministry (Life-Box) a recognized campus ministry also organized a life changing and values formation encounter entitled LIFEMiX “LIFE Purpose”. This activity aimed to develop the CLSU students personally, academically, socially, and most especially spiritually. The weekly sessions started last October 9, 2010 and it was conducted every Tuesday, at the Alumni Social Hall.
Meanwhile, the Students’ Week spearheaded by the Office of Students Affairs (OSA) and USSC is an annual weeklong celebration of the universi-ty. It was celebrated last February 13-19, with the theme “CLSU KAPIT BI-
SIG Para sa Kaunlaran at Kalikasan.” The highlights of the event were the everyday activities offered by the OSA and USSC, some of these are the Oath of Student Officials, Kapihan sa OSA (University-Wide Forum), Sari-Sari Inc/Valentine Show, Kaiinan sa USSC, Activity Booths, Love Radio, OSA coun-seling, and other activities organized by recognized student organizations.
The Listen Experience Transform Seminar is the former Leadership Edge Training which includes lead-ership as its main focus. The USSC decided to make it Listen Experi-ence Transform because it comprises seminar on leadership, values forma-tion, environment and social aware-ness. This commenced last Febru-ary 16, 2011 as scheduled by the different partners and the USSC.
A two-day and one-night workshop and fun day for campus leaders was held last March 12 and 13 2011. The said activity was entitled BIG in lead-ership. The purpose of the said activ-ity is to engage campus leaders of CLSU on ethical, pro-active, respon-sive and transformational leadership as part of their development. Might as well, the said activity aims to pro-mote unity and coordination among different campus leaders represent-ing different sectors of the students.
With these achievements of the USSC ‘10 – ’11, CLSU students hope to have more participation in the develop-mental activities in the university. This year, we are all one with hope that the next generation of USSC are genuine leaders and will be by the students, for the students and by the students.

Kaya kung gusto mong makita ang pagbabago, halika samahan na-tin sila sa kanilang pamumuno, ma-lay mo malaman natin ang tunay na kahulugan ng salitang pagbabago.
Politics as observed nowadays is creating a huge impact in the minds of every Filipino. Its signif-
icance as one of the needs to create a better society is giving reasons for the people to seek a lot more information not just to conform but to also criticize.
Issues about politics and politi-cians never went down. It doesn’t mat-ter if the line is in corporate, religious or academic institutions, there is poli-tics in most of the things in the world, so as in Central Luzon State University.
The University Supreme Stu-dent Organization (USSC) is currently having a makeover from the outgoing administration of Genesis Acuña to the incoming USSC president, Zadieshar Sanchez whose under the Institution of Student Leaders in Action (ISLA) party.
It created a big “Why?” to
the students who are concerned on the election supposedly on July 19, 2011 yet remained noth-ing to those who doesnt care at all.
Time passed by so quick for some, it does not sick in yet that the student leaders they have vot-ed last USSC election is now going to step out of their office and leave it to the new set of officers after a year of serving their fellow students.
It has actually been a tradition that after a lot of sacrificial acts for the university, the hard work, criticisms and dark days, a term should always come to an end. But it’s not just about the term that ended more importanth-ly, its about what has been remained in the hearts and minds of every student who experienced their administration.
Terms “come and go” is un-fortunately associated to the USSC batches that had flowery platforms
and promises during campaigns but just left with nothing to remain. “Bilang ordinaryong estudyante, minsan kase, di ko alam kung di lang ba talaga ako tumitingin sa paligid ko o di ko lang ta-laga maramdaman ang USSC,” Leigh De Guzman, Devcomm 3, said during an interview with the CLSU Collegian.
Is it an indicator that politi-cians have just great convincing pow-ers during campaign? Or is it that the students are great just on criticisms?
Politics really has different faces. We will not know if a candi-date is running for a position just for fame or really for the welfare of the students. We will not know if a can-didate wants to serve or just wants to experience sitting in the office of USSC. And we will not know if a can-didate has the heart to lead or just want to wear a shirt with a state-ment saying, “a student leader”.

Hindi ako naniniwalang ang mga kolehiyong ito lamang ang may puso na manilbihan sa mga mag-aaral at may mga estudyanteng lider na kayang mamuno sa kal-akhang bilang ng mga mag-aaral.
Naniniwala ako na may mas magag-aling pa na lider na kayang mamuno sa CLSU na nakatago sa College of Fisheries (CF), College of Vetenerary Science and Medecine (CVSM), Col-lege of Agriculture (CAg), College of Engineering (Cen) at College of Home Science and Indusrty (CHSI).
Ang mga estudyante sa nabanggit na mga kolehiyo ay hindi lamang nabibig-yan ng oportunidad na mahasa ang kanilang pagiging lider at mahinang ang kanilang kakayanan na mamumo.
Hindi lang sila mabigyan ng pagka-kataon dahil ang karamihan ng mga mag-aaral sa CLSU ay nagmumula sa CEd, CAS at CBAA. Aminin man natin o hindi, ang labanan kung sino ang
uupo sa pinakamataas na posisyon sa CLSU ay labanan ng mga kolehi-yo. Ka-kolehiyo ko, susuportahan ko.
Maganda ang pagkatatali ng sa-mahan ng mga kolehiyong may gani-tong paniniwala. Maganda ito kung ang ating titignan ay ang perspektibo ng pagkakaisa ng mga mag-aaral sa isang kolehiyo. Subalit kung ang ating sisiyasatin ay ang anggulo ng pag-kakaroon ng isang lider na kayang mamuno sa buong unibersidad, hin-di ito ang batayan sa pagpili – hindi ibig sabihin na kakilala mo o kakole-hiyo mo ang tumatakbo na USSC Chairperson, siya na ang iboboto mo.
Wala mang magaganap na labanan ngayong eleksyon ng USSC, sana sa susunod na halalan, gamitin natin ang mga isip natin at hindi ang mga puso.

Patay na nga pulitika ng CLSU. Sana, ang mga susunod na mauupo sa USSC ay maintindihan ang kahal-agahan ng pakikialam ng mga mag-aaral sa pulitika ng CLSU at hindi hayaan na ang kapangyarihan ay nakasentro lamang sa piling iilan.

Nalulungkot ako pag naalala kong pamantayan nga pala ang grado sa pagtakbo sa USSC; hindi dahil nagnais akong tu-makbo subalit pangit ang mga grado ko noong mga nakara-ang semestre, alin man doon ay hindi totoo, ngunit dahil na-niniwala ako na hindi grado ang sukatan ng tunay na pa-glilingkod at responsibilidad.
Tunay ngang dapat hangaan ang mga taong may magagan-dang marka, sapagkat nakaka-ya nilang pagsabayin ang mga ekstrakurikular na gawain at ang kanilang pang-akademikong larangan. Saludo ako sa si-pag at tiyaga nilang binubuno sa paghabol sa mga leksyon at aralin na karaniwang nakalil-igtaan na ng ibang estudyan-teng pumapasok sa iba’t ibang mga organisasyon at sama-han. Ngunit ang grado ay nu-
mero lamang, hindi ito ang tu-nay na magdidikta kung anong klase kang tao at kung hanggang saan lamang ang mararating mo.
Sa katunayan, marami akong kakilalang naghangad tumakbo sa USSC; subok ko na ang kanilang katapatan at kakayahang ma-muno, ngunit natatakot silang kutyain ng ibang tao at kwesti-yunin ang kanilang kredibilidad base sa perpormans nila sa klase.
Paano po ba tayo nakasisig-uro na ang mga matatalino la-mang ang maaaring maging re-sponsableng tagapamahala? Hindi po ba natin bibigyan ng pagkakataon ang iba at hay-aang patunayan ang sarili nila?
Ang pagiging USSC official na-man po ay hindi pagsusulit na

Kung grado nga lang po sana ang sukatan ng lahat, sa dami ng intelektwal sa ating unibersidad, wala na po sana tayong problema; ngunit maging sila ay nagkakama-li rin minsan, at ang masakit pa nito, ang pagkakamali nila ay ka-raniwang natatakpan ng kanilang magagandang mga imahe.
Kung grado nga lang po sana ang sukatan ng lahat, drinaw-lots niyo nalang po sana sa mga university at college scholars ang magiging susunod na USSC chair at ang mga mas mababang posisi-yon ay sa mga deans lister naman.

Pero hindi eh? role model po ba ang hanap ninyo? Kung ganoon, hindi po ba maaaring maging hu-waran ang ibang estudyante na sa kabila ng mga hindi kagandahang marka (na kadalasan naman ay hindi na nila kasalanan) ay patu-loy parin po silang nagsusumikap upang iayos ang mga iyon at upang makatapos? Hindi po ba maaaring maging huwaran ang mga estudy-anteng oo nga’t may mga bagsak na marka, ngunit marunong na-man rumespeto at maglingkod ng may tunay na mababang loob na aabot sa kapwa niya mga estudy-ante? Hindi po ba maaaring mag-ing huwaran ang mga mahihina sa ibang akademikong larangan, ngunit malakas naman ang pani-nindigan? Hindi po ba maaaring maging huwaran ang mga sim-pleng estudyanteng hangad lang naman na may mabago naman sa ating lipunang ginagalawan?
Sa pinakikita po natin ngayon, mukhang hindi nga po maaari. Sige, sila na! tutal sila sila lang na-man po pala ang may karapatan.
