THE COG - RCM Meeting 1627 Bulletin 10 May 2017
Meeting #1626 of the Rotary Club of Morialta was held on 3 May 2017 at The REZZ Hotel with 22 members in attendance. At this meeting the Club’s insurance officer Ken Quarrell gave a general overview of who and what is covered by Rotary insurance. If any Member requires further information on any specific insurance issue, please speak to Ken. Following on from the District 9520 Conference held in Mt Gambier over the weekend 28 April to 30 April 2017, Ken Quarrell and I gave a brief summary of the events and guest speakers of the conference. Both Ken and I were very impressed with the quality and diversity of the guest speakers and their topics. One important fact that I omitted to mention previously was that all of the guest speakers at the Conference were presented with a wooden food platter which were made at the Club’s Community Workshop and which were engraved accordingly . The next District Conference will be a joint event between our District 9520 and District 9500 in the Barossa Valley (Tanunda) during the weekend of 23 to 25 March 2018 with a theme of “Joining Rotary”. District Conferences are a great time of fellowship and good fun and I encourage all members to give consideration to attending next year. Marian Jennings’ raffle ticket was drawn out, but by drawing out marble #7, she failed to select lucky marble #9 and the jackpot is slowly growing again. The Club’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 10 May 2017 at The REZZ and is a designated “Committee Night”. Come along and contribute to your respective committee(s). The Club’s annual Golf Day was held at the Lochiel Golf Course at Campbelltown on Thursday 4 May 2017. Although the numbers were down, it was a great time enjoyed by all in perfect weather conditions. Thanks go to Paul and Debbie Haylock, Graeme Packer and Judi Brown for their assistance with this event. Full details of the amount raised will be provided once all accounting matters are finalised. Important upcoming dates include the Board Meeting on Tuesday 9 May 2017, the District Assembly in Murray Bridge on Sunday 21 May 2017, the combined meeting with Inner Wheel Club of Tea Tree Gully on TUESDAY 23 May 2017 at The REZZ. This meeting will replace the Club’s normal meeting on 24 May 2017. The Club’s Changeover Dinner Meeting will be held on 30 June 2017 at the Naval and Military Club, Hutt Street Adelaide. COMMUNITY WORKSHOP G'day Brenton,
Its Mitch here from The University of Adelaide. I'm are currently a first year studying a bachelor of architecture and our most recent assignment tasked us with building and designing a piece of furniture. This meant we needed a workshop and as both myself and Liam are not Adelaide locals we just didnt have the means to do so. However my Uncle; Tim Mee, had told me prior of a Rotary run workshop so I spoke to him about the possibility of using it to make our design. The appropriate arrangements were made and we met last Thursday (27/4) morning at 9am and worked through to about 5pm. Throughout the process both Graeme Packer and Kevin Jacka provided skilled assistance and advice and I'm happy to say the design has turned out a lot better than we could have ever hoped. We could instantly tell how both Graeme and Kevin had a real passion for the workshop and that in itself gave us a lot more confidence in what we were trying to achieve.
Finally as time has been given to us we would like to give some time back. Helping at the next working bee is the first thing to come to mind but we are open to any ideas you might have.
Kind regards, Mitch.

Delegation visit from Rotary Club of Usa, Japan
宇佐ロータリークラブのモリアルタ訪問
(Update, as of May 2)
Usa and Morialta established Friendship Agreement nearly 22 years ago on Nov 15 1995. There have been
a number of happy, reciprocal visits since then for strengthening friendship ties through learning about
each other’s culture and Rotary activities.
While I was in Japan recently, I attended a meeting with Usa officials including incoming President, Mr.
Korenaga. Here is an updated itinerary of their planned trip to Adelaide this October. Please note that
Usa has now added one more night on Morialta’s suggestion!
October 26 (Thu) 8:30 am Arrive in Adelaide SQ 279 from Singapore
Signing Ceremony / Dinner
27 (Fri) Group 1, 18 hole golf , Group 2, Sightseeing
28 (Sat) Sightseeing / Fellowship
29 (Sun) 10:25 am Depart Adelaide SQ 278 for Singapore
Page 6
Please put the above dates in your diary. Although this itinerary is still to be officially confirmed by Usa’ s
incoming Board, the main structure does not seem likely to change.
