When you take the cap off, the inside air has more pressure than the outside air

It expand and expels because of the potential energy (stored energy)

Stored Energy

Potential stored energy transforms into KE when the pressure is released

The pressure increases by shaking the bottle and even more energy is stored, so makes the coke/soda push the cap while trying to open it. Then, the bottle gives out the coke and it runs down and splashes the other things around.

You can see a video of what happens in the next slide.

Q What happens

Ignore my face I look funny. Oh, and it was MS PJ Day, that explains why I was wearing a pajama.

Does the same thing happen with a sugar free coke?

Diet Coke Trial 1

It’s the same coke bottle! Look what happens after we shake and open it for the second time! It still has a lot of pressure!

Diet Coke Trial 2

Page 7: The Coke Bottle By: Stefania Olteanu. When you take the cap off, the inside air has more pressure than the outside air It expand and expels because of.

What would have happened if the pressure had launched the cap?

Page 8: The Coke Bottle By: Stefania Olteanu. When you take the cap off, the inside air has more pressure than the outside air It expand and expels because of.

What would have happened?

The cap would have Kinetic Energy (transformed from Potential Energy), then it would go high, to the point where it would have the least PE and the most Gravitational Potential Energy. Then, as it would fall down, its gPE would decrease and get more KE energy again (when it pushes the cap a little bit further from the place where it fell).

Also found out that there’s not as muchpressure in a bottle of water with gas, so the bottle doesn’t give the water out when we shake it.

Thanks to…

Sarah Nicolle, for taping and doing the Diet Coke experiment
