LEARNING: 'Research tells us that when parents are
actively engaged in supporting their children's education, students are more likely to be motivated, to earn higher grades, to have better behaviours and social skills, and to continue their education to a higher level.' Reading is the centrepiece of all learning – hence our determination to keep it at the top of our school agenda. The Reading Pod was developed to support this Reading focus and is why we stress its importance as homework. For families who are not in the position to be able to supervise Reading and the signing of the diary, the staff are kindly offering to support the children’s reading after school for 15 minutes. Over the course of the week this adds another 75 minutes to the staff work day…I thank them for supporting the children in this way.
DYMOCKS: With this focus on Reading, it was a HUGE windfall
for us when Dymocks donated $3000 of books to us. We are
not sure who was responsible for this, but we thank them for
giving the children brand new texts to enjoy.
Remember that you have already paid for Mathletics, and
Literacy Planet, and Studyladder is available for free 20 minute
sessions each day. Teachers assign tasks to the children each
week based on the learning being done in the classroom, so
this is in fact a homework program that supports the
children’s learning at school. A great way to consolidate the
day’s learning in a reward type arrangement.
OSHC: Please see the note elsewhere. We would like to thank
Jeanette Clifton, Mr Tall and Barb Jones for so generously
making themselves available whenever they were asked to
open up Breakfast Club. Until the end of 2018, they are
prepared to keep opening up from 8.30-8.50 for Breakfast Club.
Beyond that, we will keep you posted.

SCHOOL CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Hi everyone, welcome back and hope you had two good weeks of holidays. We’ve heard a lot of people
went on a holiday somewhere not here, but far away. Anyhow we are in the 4th and last term of the year
and for some people like Grade 6s, this will be their final term at Coldstream, because we are going to
high school next year.
On Thursday the 11th of October some people from 3-6 will be competing in the District Athletics. Good
luck and we know you will make Coldstream proud!
Friday the 12th is the Buddy Bear Transition for the 2019 Preps that are attending here next year. We also
have on the 15th of October the Grade 3-6 Planetarium excursion as part of our unit in astrology. Our
Frog Bog anniversary and official launch is on the 26th of October. Yours truly will be doing Radio Show
on the 2nd of November, and then from the 12th to the 16th of November the Grade 4-6s have Camp at
Camp Coolamatong, Paynesville.
That is all we have time for people, have a great term!

Football Presentation
On the 9th of September 2018 Tyler & I went to the Coldstream Football Club footy presentation at Yarra
Glen Race Course.
We got there at 11:00 and it started at 11:30. The first thing that got handed out was the Wayne Taylor
Award. This is awarded to someone who has been though a lot. The next award was an award for the
under 9s, called the Cougar Award. There were a few other awards too. I received the award for Best Team
Player and came third in the Best and Fairest Award and Tyler got Most Improved Player for 2018.
