The Cost of Blindness
45 million people around the world are blind
90 percent of them live in developing countries
Avoidable blindness could cost the world up to US$110 billion of economic productivity over 20 years
But 80 percent of blindness can be prevented or treated
Every minute, a child goes blind, and 60 percent of children will die within a year of going blind
Often, this can be prevented for less than the cost of a cup of coffee
Nearly half of blindness is caused by cataracts
Which can be cured for the price of two cinema tickets
Since 2003, we’ve helped to restore sight to more than two and a half million people
Now we’re hoping to raise US$20 million…
…to help 20 million people…
…in 20 cities in developingcountries…
