GGrraanndd KKnniigghhtt’’ss MMeessssaaggee Brothers . . . I hope the Easter season has been spiritually rejuvenating to all. At the Council things are moving, and as always, like a freight train . . .
Our Palm Sunday Breakfast was fantastic. Thanks Chairman Bob Banasiak and to all the members who came out to help!
Our Good Friday Fish dinner was the most successful ever! Led by Chairman Joe Geis, and Frank Sokloski, the Council served over 220 dinners and brought in over $2000 dollars. Well done, Joe and Frank, and too all the members and their wives who helped to make this such an incredible success. Please see the full report on page 5.
Our lecture series on Ocular Health is turning out to be a great success. On April 3rd, Dr. Jorge Melendez from Omni Eye Services gave a great presentation on Glaucoma. These presentations are interesting, informative, and provide the attendees with crucial knowledge about the leading causes of blindness in the United States. Remember, these are FREE presentations and open to the public. Start time is 8:30 pm after a short Council meeting. I urge members to come down, and bring family and friends. Thanks to Dr. Melendez!
On Saturday May 5th the Council will be having a Cinco de Mayo Social! Come on down to enjoy some food and beverages (cerveza, margaritas, etc.) as well as the company of your brothers. The party starts at 7:00 pm. Please contact me for more information.
As our Columbian year is coming to a close, it is once again time to elect a new slate of officers. The proposed slate of officers appears on page 5. The position of Outside Guard is currently open; please contact me if you are interested in the Guard position. Officer elections will be held at the May 15, 2012 meeting.
Finally, a newsletter update . . . The Council will be moving to a digital/email newsletter. Due to the costs of printing and mailing, as well as the erratic delivery performance related to bulk mail, we are forced to make this move. Please note we will still print and mail a limited number of newsletters. We ask those members who wish to receive a newsletter in the mail contact the GK. Our goal is to get to a reasonable number of mailed newsletters that can be handled easily with 1st class mail. The process of converting the newsletter will happen over the next several months and a detailed plan will be published in the next newsletter.

JJoosseepphh GGeeiiss,, PPGGKK Our Knight of the Month for April is Joe Geis, PGK. Joe is an inspiration to all members, he is a Past Grand Knight, House Chairman, and the Recorder for both the Council, and the Columbian Club. Joe has chaired our Ash Wednesday and Good Friday Fish Dinners for the past several years, which are historically two of our most successful annual events. Moreover, Joe has cared for our house, instructed our newest members, and officers, and kept our traditions. Thanks Joe!!!

It would be greatly appreciated if everyone coming to the hall for a meeting, or just to watch sports, would bring with them one or two canned goods for a donation to the St. James Food Pantry.
If you forget to bring the canned item, don’t forget the collection jug behind the bar! This is part of the statewide Food for the Hungry and Holiday Food Baskets KofC effort.
As always, our support for the food drive is greatly appreciated by Father Charlie Cicerale and the St. James Food Pantry.
Items needed: pancake mix & syrup, canned meat, pasta sauce, jelly, baked beans, boxed potatoes, canned ravioli, canned meatballs, canned pasta, spaghetti O’s, coffee, tea, and cereal.

CCoolluummbbiiaann CClluubb RReeppoorrtt Brothers:
Our current roof situaltion has turned out to be an expensive issue. Our dormer leak has yielded an estimate of $1900 while other miscellaneous roof repairs will run us and additional $850. The worst news received though, was that our “yankee gutters” were in really bad shape and we have sustained damage by the attic stairs because of it.
The roofer estimated the repair for gutters on 3 sides of the house to be $4800. Fortunately, a gutter on one side of the house was recently repaired and is OK. We have also encountered some plumbing issues as well and need to have both a waste pipe and boiler pipe repaired. That was at a cost of $850.
With all the repairs that we are encountering, the Club is researching a line of credit with our bank so we can address all the house repairs. Per last month's Columbian Club Report we are moving forward with a $25 assessment of all members. We will be sending out a letter for the assessment and I ask that you respond as promptly as you can. Thanks to all our brothers who have already responded to our assessment!
Let us all pull together to get throught this rough spot.

Our Church for 2000 years has much wisdom; and she knows that a celebration as momentous as Easter can’t be celebrated in a day, or even an octive, but for 50 days. Pentecost Sunday is May 27th, so we will continue to celebrate Easter till then. This week’s Gospel told us: “You are witnesses of these things.” In all that we say and do we are to make Christ’s peace and compassion, love and reconciliation visible – real.
Did you see Hugo, the movie? Martin Scorsese’s award winning film Hugo is
the story of an orphan living in Paris during the 1930’s. The boy has inherited his late father’s ability to fix and re-build things, from intricate clocks to sophisticated mechanical toys. After his father dies, Hugo is taken in by his drunkard uncle who is in charge of maintaining the clocks at the Paris train station. Hugo soon mastered the maze of mechanisms and gears and keeps the clocks running with perfect precision long after Uncle Claude disappears. Rather than be forced to live in an orphanage, Hugo hides amid the station’s ladders, catwalks and hidden passages. A light pierces Hugo’s lonely existence when he meets Isabel, the ward of a toy-shop owner. Trusting Isabel, Hugo shows her his world of tools and gadgets, including an
automation he has inherited from his father and is trying to fix. As he shows Isabel his secret view from the top of the great clock tower overlooking the City of Lights, Hugo muses: ‘I’d imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured, if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn’t be an extra part. I
had to be here for some reason…“Maybe that’s why a broken machine always makes me a little sad, because it isn’t able to do what it was meant to do. Maybe it’s the same with people. If you lose your purpose…it’s like you’re broken.”
To find our life’s purpose despite our brokenness is the challenge of Easter. The story of the Crucified Jesus is a “schematic” for all of us in how to transform the crosses of our lives into vehicles of resurrection; to realize, within the challenges of our days, the purpose of our lives; to discover wholeness and meaning as we repair and replace the broken pieces that leave us confused, lost and fearful.
May the hope and light of Easter help us persevere in finding our place and purpose in the “one big machine” of God’s world.
Congratulations 3rd Degree!!! Congratulations to our Brothers who have completed their journey into Knighthood, and were
exemplified in the 3rd Degree on March 30th in Perth Amboy at the San Salvador Council #299.
