Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

During this month of June, we celebrate three great feasts of the

Church year: The Ascension of our Lord (June 2), Pentecost (June 12)

and Holy Trinity (June 19). To many in the secular world, June 19 will

be celebrated as Fathers’ Day. While there is no connection to the two

observances, I find it interesting to note that we come to understand

God as Trinity, because Jesus calls God his ―Father.‖

Last year, I was on vacation on the feast of Holy Trinity and worshiping at another

Lutheran Church (which shall remain nameless). I was eagerly waiting to hear the

Word of God proclaimed to me. Imagine my disappointment when the only point

the preacher made was: ―The feast of the Holy Trinity does not celebrate any par-

ticular event in the life of our Lord, the Trinity is just a doctrine.‖

Just a doctrine? The Trinity is God being God for you and me. At Christmas we

celebrate the Father sending his Son, at Easter we celebrate the Son’s obedience to

his Father’s will and victory over death, and at Pentecost the pouring out of their

Spirit to establish the Church and make it holy. Holy Trinity Sunday is best under-

stood not the feast of a doctrine, but as the celebration of the richness of the being of

God and the occasion of a thankful review of the now completed mystery of salva-

tion, which is the work of the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit.

Many Christians in our post-modern world are ashamed to name God ― Father, Son

and Holy Spirit.‖ In an attempt to be inclusive and not offend anyone with the ex-

cessive use of masculine terms, the optional invocation in the new red book (ELW)

is: ―Blessed be the Holy Trinity, one God, the fountain of living water, the rock

who gave us birth, our light and salvation.‖ Fountain, water, rock and light are all

biblical images for God, but stop short of relating to us in a real way. Fountain, wa-

ter and rock are in-animate objects, that are descriptive, but fail to define God in lov-

ing relationship with his creation.

The problem is not with the name ―Father.‖ The problem is not hearing the story in

which God is called ―Father.‖ Retaining the names ―Father, Son and Holy Spirit,‖

even while recognizing the truth expressed in other ways of speaking of God, invites

us deeper into the story with which these names are connected.

In the Old Testament, God is addressed or named as ―Father‖ approximately 20

Ascension Day is June 2 and we will have two op-

portunities for worship. A service of Holy Commun-

follow the noon time service.

nourishes and sustains his people. Considering how

much is contained in the Old Testament, the name

―Father‖ is not used much at all. In the New Testa-

ment, however, the divine name ―Father‖ becomes the

predominant way of calling upon God. It is the one

who is truly the Son of God, who rightly calls God

―Father‖ and teaches his disciples to do the same

(Matt 6:6-14; Luke 11:1-4).

The Divinity as Father, Son and Holy Spirit is re-

vealed by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus

Christ. We don’t call God Father because it is a

choice. We name Him ―Father‖ because in Baptism

we are joined to his Son and with and through him we

pray and call upon God. This is what it means when

our Lord says: I am the way and the truth and the

life… We come to know God as Father through Je-

sus, because he comes to be our brother. And as

God’s family we are ―at home‖ to praise God in the

name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen!

I want to thank the members of the church who were so thoughtful to send me a beautiful Easter lily. It is still blooming an I have enjoyed it very much. God bless, Joan M. Mezoff Dear Pastor & Friends of Christ Lutheran Church,

Thank you for the beautiful lily and the kind deliv-

ery made by Charles Schreiber.

Perhaps, even more, we appreciate the message

that came with the flower ―...are sent to bring you the

peace and blessing of God’s House. You are remem-

bered in the prayers of the church offered today.‖

Prayer is very important to us. It helps, much more,

then the medication we take to control our health is-

sues.

Thank you - God bless,

Thank you for the beautiful Easter lily, I am very appreciative . A special thanks to George & Carol Kishbaugh for delivering it to me. Joan Risser Puchaty Christ Lutheran,

Thank you for the use of Cassell property on 4/30/11.

Hello,

I received a box of cookies a few weeks ago, and I

just wanted to say thank you to everyone from Christ

Church for thinking of me while I am at school. The

cookies were very good and did not last long! I would

like to request a recipe from everyone that made the

cookies! Thanks again!

Thank You,

Why I’m walking in the Susan G Komen

3-Day for the Cure® October 14, 15 & 16, 2011

When I first saw the 3-day walk for the cure advertised on TV I

wondered how far that walk was. I did the re-search and found it was 60 miles over 3 days, 20 miles a day. My first thought was “can I walk that far?” My answer: Even though I am not as young as I think I am, there is plenty of time to train and all I have to do is put one foot in front of the other. As the sign in my office at work says” Do not ask the Lord to guide your foot-steps, if you are not willing to move your feet.” The next question on my mind was, ”can I raise $2,300.00?” I have already put the footsteps in God’s hands and I’m willing to put the raising of the donations there also.

I think of all the people I know who have been affected by breast cancer, my Grandmother, my friend Thelma Harry, and Karen Little quickly come to mind. I watched them struggle to put one foot in front of the other and fight until fi-nally, there was acceptance that there was nothing else that could be done. Each one of them showed me how to die with dignity. As I train, I think of how these powerful women have touched my life and I thank God that I have such wonderful role models.

Please support me as I take an amazing jour-ney in the fight to end breast cancer! The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds from the 3-Day for the Cure® are in-vested in breast cancer research and commu-nity programs.

You can go to my web site: www.the3day.org\goto\Joan Leedom or use one of the donation forms I have posted on the Fellowship Bulletin Board in the Educational Building hallway.

I can’t cure cancer, but I can walk. Thank you for your support.

service work. Pastor Domines would like Pastor Keller to

be considered for visitation, supply preaching and teaching.

Pastor Domines suggested this would amount to approxi-

mately 15 hours a week or 60 hours a month. This would

not be a called position and would not need to go through

Synod. Council will gather prior to the All Committee

Night at 6:30 to meet with Pastor Keller. Council would

like take thank the Call Committee members for their work

and commitment during the call process. Pastor Schifrin

was excused from the meeting. Council members made

plans to place flowers in the church on Easter Sunday in

honor of Pastor Schifrin. Council members will also give a

gift to Pastor Schifrin as a thank you for her work and sup-
