` Donations to our Welfare Trust are exempted u/s 80 G of IT Act For Restricted Circulation Only Nation Builder Awards Our regular meeting on September 09, 2016 was dedicated to Nation Builder Awards. One major component of the Teacher Support program of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) is to recognize outstanding teachers through the ‘Nation Builder Awards’, after a detailed evaluation process. The main purpose of this award is to felicitate outstanding teachers and to inspire them to give their best to the students. President Rtn. Amarjit Singh welcomed the chief guest Dr. H.S. Saini, District Education Officer, Panchkula and the teachers from the tricity. PE Rtn. Dr. Rita Kalra introduced the chief guest. Dr. Saini started his career as a science lecturer. He was also Block Education Officer in Panchkula and Dy. Director of Secondary Education in Ambala. In his simple and straight forward address Dr. Saini said, Dr. H.S. Saini “It is the prime duty of the teachers to inculcate moral values among their students. After the parents it is a the teacher who plays a very important role in the development of children.” He also appreciated the literacy programs of Rotary which will bring the desirable change in the social set up. Talking about Nation Builder Awards he said this is a privileged award for teachers, and therefore it brings with it great responsibility on the teachers towards their students in shaping up their future. The parents and the teachers are the ones who can show the right path to the children and build them up for their future. Dr. Saini said we have become so materialistic that we ignore our children. We should not build unnecessary pressure on our children which can be very fateful in future. He also talked about the old age when children start ignoring their parents. Teacher Day celeberation on 04 th/05th Sep. 2016: Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown has started one E-Learning Centre in Govt Model Sr Sec.School, 46-D, Chandigarh on Teachers Day on 5th Sep. 2016. President Amarjit Singh, Secretary Sundeep Sawhney, PE Dr Rita Kalra, PP Pallav Mhukherjee and Rtn Ashok Puri were present. Few items of dance and songs were performed by small children of school which was applauded by all. The Principal thanked our club for the support to school. Earlier, Teacher day was also celebrated on 04th Sep. 2016 by Social Welfare Association of Maloya in our Literacy centre and was attended by Rtn. Ashok Puri . Local residents of Maloya/Association appreciated the efforts of Rotary for running literacy as well as Sewing and Tailoring centre at Maloya and recognized our club with memento. Blood Donation Camp on 07th Sep. 2016: Blood Donation Camp was organised together by our club and Inner Wheel Club, Pinjore - Kalka in Govt College, Sector 1, Panchkula on 07th Sep. 2016. Refreshments like fruity and bananas and milk were given to blood donors by all above mentioned clubs. Afterwards they were also given gifts and certificates. 91 units (boys 84, girls 7) total were collected in camp. Our club was represented by President Amarjit Singh, PE Dr Rita Kalra, PP Prem Anand, PP Vinod Jawa, Rtn Ashok Puri, DCS, Rtn Suman Gupta, Rtn Nitin Kapoor. International Literacy Day on 08th Sep. 2016: International Literacy Day was celebrated 8th Sep. 2016 with Vedic Girls School, Manimajra by donating two steel racks with library books. President Amarjit Singh, PE Dr Rita Kalra, PP Gurdip S. Deep, Rtn Ashok Puri DCS and Rtn Nitin Kapoor of our club along with Principal, staff and students participated in this function which was applauded by school management. Another knowledgeable programme of quiz on literacy was arranged on same day by our club in our Literacy Centre, Maloya with students of literacy, attended by President Amarjit Singh, first lady Sunita and Rtn Ashok Puri. Innaugration of Computer lab: Inauguration of 8 computers (shifted from Khudha Alisher) was also done by our club on 10th Sep. 2016 at Snehalaya Orphanage, Sector 39, Maloya. PP Pallav Mukherjee had an interesting quiz sessions with students of orphanage and distributed ladoos to winners. PE Dr Rita Kalra, PP Pallav Mukherjee, Rtn Ashok Puri DCS, R’ann Sudha Puri, Rtn Sanjay Bhatia along with Mrs Sangeeta Vardhan, Chairman, Vatsal Chaya and her staff were also present.

EVRY Mohali Center - Director Finance Mr Raghuram S, Sr. Executive – Talent Acquisition Mr. Shalender Singh and HR Manager Ms. Sargam Chauhan presented the cheque to Secretary Sundeep Singh Sawhney on behalf EVRY (India) Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of EVRY(Norway) .

Secretary Rtn. Sundeep Singh Sawhney is frequently invited to the Mohali Centre where he is part of various initiative taken by company from time to time. He was recently part of Presentations wherein PDG Shaju Peter gave a wonderful presentation on Rotary Foundation and role of Rotary in Society. Earlier PP Ritu Singhal was part of a similar event on Women Empowerment much appreciated by the staff and management.

With this contribution EVRY and its employees wish to help the needy children with education, books, clothes etc. to make a meaningful difference to our society and give back to society through this appreciable act of giving selflessly. EVRY is keen to be a active part of various activities being undertaken by Rotary Club Chandigarh midtown who would be too pleased to be associated with this esteemed company.

Apart from this CSR initiative, items in kind like clothes and books donated by EVRY employees will be utilized by Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown for its relief programs and in community projects.

EVRY wishes to continue contributing towards social welfare activities in future.

District Governor Raman Aneja inaugurated Rotary District 3080 Cricket Tournament at Guru Nanak Public School, Sector 36-D Chandigarh on Monday, 12th September 2016 at 7 a.m. This tournament is being held for a cause and it is a unique fellowship to celebrate 100 years of the Rotary Foundation of doing good in the world.

Rotary Chandigarh Midtown and Rotary Chandigarh Shivalik played the first match of the tournament. Chandigarh Shivalik won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 117 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Our captain Rtn. Salil Bali scored 53 runs. Rtr. Manish scored 31 and President Amarjit Singh was not out on 13. We scored 118 runs in 16 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. Rtn. Salil Bali was declared the ‘Man of the Match’.
