Once upon a time, in a beautiful small forest there was a

red ant named Gerard. The color of his body was red. His

body was smal l . He l ived wi th other ants under the big

tree on the bank of a r iver. He l ived with his

parents there. He was a lazy ant. He never looked for

food. Everyday he played and sang with his fr iends.

His parents were angry with him, but they st i l l loved

h im. He became a spoi led red ant . Bes ides , the re was a c row

named Jacko. His mother gave that name because he had a good voice

like a big superstar, Michael Jackson. He liked singing. He always sang a

song everywhere.

lalala..lalala. caw..caw the sound he made.

Jacko had black eyes and black feathers. He looked like a cruel, but

actually he was a kindhearted and helpful crow. He was intell igent bird. He

had been lived alone since four months old. His mother died because of a

hunter . He fe l t sad a t that t ime. So he was very a f ra id o f the hunter .

Before h is mother d ied, h is mother and he a lways sang together. He

missed his mother. He always prayed for his mother.

One day, Jacko was f ly ing to a t ree on the bank o f a r iver and

perched on a branch. He sang a song. It was his habit.

lalalalalala.

hmmm. I am hungry, said Jacko to himself.

He was looking for his food, but he couldnt f ind it . He moved from a

tree to another tree.

Is there anything for me? said Jacko.

He looked down f rom the t ree and suddenly he saw something

colored red in the water. He wanted to know what i t was. He approachedit.

What is it? asked Jacko to himself.

Sudden ly he heard a sound when he approached i t. He was

surprised.

Help me Help me

Who is i t? Where does the sound come from? I t is

from the red thing, isnt it? asked Jacko when he was

flying above the water.

He was very confused and surprised because i t was ared ant.

Woooowwww. I t is a red ant . What a p i ty ! said

Jacko.

Help me Help me, please! shouted the red ant

Jacko shocked and con fused h im what he might do .

What must I do? asked the crow.

Help me Help me cried the red ant. He couldnt say anything.

Jacko wanted to help the red ant.

Oh yes! I have a good idea, said Jacko. I wi ll g ive you anything i f you help me. Hurry up, p lease! said

Gerard.

After that, Jacko pecked off a leaf. Then he dropped the leaf near

Gerard in the water. The ant crawled onto the leaf. He floated on it and got

to bank safely. He was grateful to the crow for saving his l i fe. He was very

happy.

Thank you! said the red ant.

You are welcome, said the crow.

May I know your name?Of course.

My name is Gerard, what about you?

My name is Jacko.

Jallo It is a good name.

Oh.. no..no I am not Jallo, but Jacko.

How do you spell it?

I was playing near water with my friends. And suddenly I was fall ing

down into the water.

I dont know. Maybe they are call ing my parents.

Suddenly they heard a sound which called Gerard.

Gerard Gerard My beloved son, shouted Gerards mother.

Gerard, where are you? shouted Gerards father.

Gerard was happy because his parents were searching him.

MomDad I am here, said Gerard. After that, his parents met

him. Gerard to ld what had happened to h is parents. His parents were

gratefu l to the crow for saving his son l i fe . Then they might go home

because of the night.

Gerard.

Yes, I wil l, said Jacko.

Nice to meet you. Bye.

Nice to meet you too. Bye.Then his parents and Gerard went home. Jacko was looking for his

food again. The next day, Gerard would p lay wi th h is f r iends. But h is

parents didnt permit him. He was angry.

Where wil l you go? said his mother.

I wil l play with my friends, said Gerard.

No! I won t le t you go. I am af ra id you wi l l fa l l

down into water again.

Hrrr..

He was angry, so he ran off from his house. Hewent to the tree. He met Jacko again. Jacko did his

habi t . He sang a song in the t ree on the bank of a

river and perched on a branch.

lalalalala.

He heard a voice.

Hi Jacko. How are you? said Gerard.

I am fine. And you? said Jacko.

Great!

Why are you not looking your food now?I am lazy.

Dont be a lazy ant! You must help your parents and your friends to

look for food!

NoNo I prefer singing and playing than working.

I advise you not to do it!

Dont be a lazy red ant! You must make your parents proud of you.

Yahh I must do it. I wil l help my parents and my friends to look for

food.

Jacko advised Gerard. He didnt want Gerard become a lazy red ant.

Gerard should do as he advised. He thanked to Jacko. From that t ime,

Gerard became a dil igent red ant. The next day, he helped his parents to

looking for food. They were very happy. After working, he wanted to meet

Jacko. He waited at the same place. Then Jacko came and perched on a

branch near Gerard.

Hi Gerard! Have you finished helping your parents?

Of course.

Great.

Jacko. When I worked, my f r iends to ld me about the hunter . I

want to tell you about it.

Since three days ago, the hunters have been hunting for the bird in

this forest. Everyday I heard the sound of their guns.

What must I do?

Jacko remained about his mother. He was sad.

hunter.

They sang together. They had been s inging for 3

hours. Gerard would go home. He was in a hurry.

What is your hurry? asked Jacko.

I am in a hurry because I am afraid my mother wil langry with me, answered Gerard.

Next day, Jacko went to another fores t for sav ing h imself and

looking for his food. He eats corn, bugs, worms, mice, small mammals,

and fast food leftovers. Gerard was waiting for Jacko at the same tree, but

his f r iend didn t come. He was sad. Al l day he wai ted for h im, but h is

friend didnt come. He missed his best friend.

A few days later Jacko was perched on a branch of the tree. He sang

a song.

Where is Gerard? I t is 5 p.m, so there wi l l no hunter here, said

Jacko to himself.

He sang because he wanted Gerard knew if he was there. Gerardheard his voice. He wanted to meet him.

Ahaaa It is a good crow. I wil l ki l l i t ! said a hunter happily.

When Gerard wanted to meet his friend, unknown person was trying

to aim a gun at his friend. Jacko didnt know about it.

I suppose there is no hunter at this t ime, said Gerard to himself.

Knowing this, Gerard crept up the foots hunter fast and bit it.

Aaawwwwww shouted the hunter.

He flew to another forest. The hunter

hunter angrily. The red ant was died.

One week later, Jacko went to the tree

where his f r iend and he sang together. He always wai ted for h is bestf riend. Day by day, Gerard d idn t come. He was very confused what

happened with Gerard. He met Gerards parents. He asked them about

Gerard.

You are Gerards parents, arent you? asked Jacko.

Yes. Are you Jacko? said Gerards mother.

Yes, I am. Where is Gerard?

Gerards parents didnt say anything. They cried.

Why are you crying? Dont make me confused, asked Gerard.

Gerard has died, answered Gerards father.What caused the accident?

I dont know.

Jacko didnt know that his best friend had died. He didnt know the

caused of his fr iends death. He was very sad. Gerard was a best fr iend.

He died a martyr to his friend.
