The mall//herlan DWI frontend is the perfect solution for a flexible and cost-effective production of aluminium or steel cylinders out of coiled material. The DWI frontend is usually followed by decoration and shaping/necking to complete the aerosol cans or bottles.
Thanks to the modular concept, mall//herlan production lines are flexible to make aerosol cans and bottles in many different sizes, shapes, colors and artworks.
Lightweight monoblock cylinders Standard aluminium or steel coil Material availability and supply bases on all continents Flexible in material, diameter and length of cylinders Space-saving by integrated machine design Modular tool design Process and tooling know how by mall//herlan The CylinderMaker
The world’s most flexible DWI frontend production system for aluminium or steel aerosol cans and bottles

High-performance system for aluminium or steel cylinders Strong, stable, adaptable and flexible cylinder making process
In-house container development with engineering and production of tools for your innovative cans or bottles
Optimized material utilization due to flexible tool arrangements Reduced costs through a modular tool concept Reliable transfer systems Easy access for quick size changes and maintenance Extremely fast and easy tool change to produce different diameters and lengths
Upender + uncoiler
The aluminium or steel coil is moved from the upender onto the uncoiler and feeding the cupper.
The toolholder with a variable number of active tool elements can be exchanged very easy to pro-duce different diameters and lengths. The uncoiled metal is pulled into the press. During this process it moves transversally for most efficient utilisation of the web with lowest possible scrap. Together, these two movements result in a zigzag motion.
CupperCupper die set
The double-action cupper performs two process steps. A blankholder holds the material in position while blanking the disc and drawing the cup.
Cup transfer
A conveyor system transports the upright cups on a buffer belt and feeds the cups into the bodymaker.
Bodymaker
Within the same movement the cup is redrawn in a first step, is pushed through ironing rings to form a cylinder and the bottom gets its final design.
Pick-up system
A pick-up system removes the cylinders from the trimmer and pushes them onto a pin chain conveyor.
Trimmer
The cylinder is trimmed to the correct length and burr free.
The cylinder is cleaned from lubricant and coolant in washing and rinsing cabins. The nozzle injection system ensures optimum clean-ing. The cylinders are completely dried in the integrated oven.

Inside and outside coating Decorating Necking and shaping
The mall//herlan DWI frontend is consisting of five machines: Coil upender + uncoiler: Steel or aluminium coils feeding the cupper Cupper: Blanking discs from a coil and deep drawing into cups Cup transfer: Transfering the cups from the cupper to the bodymaker Bodymaker + trimmer: Re-drawing/ironing cups to cylinders and trimming to length Washer + dryer: Cleaning and drying the cylinders

Bodymaker tools5
The bodymaker tooling reduces the thickness of the can wall, moves material to defined areas and gives the cylinder its final attri-butes and length.
mall//herlan has all competences in desig-ing and producing tools for aluminium and steel applications.
