Johnny was very good on Wednesday Story by Karen Lee
Winners Dog, Festiva Aladdin Johnny Be Good
came from the open class and was proudly owner-
handled by Kelly Riney. “Jay“ has had a full schedule at
this national as he ran in the AKC lure trial and earned
two points on Sunday. After a bit of rest, he was ready
to enter the ring and show his best.
A flashy red brindle and white dog just 18 months
old, his ring deportment was that of a seasoned cam-
paigner. Owner Kelly Riney stated that he has already
enjoyed considerable success, needing just two singles
now to complete his AKC championship. This award
was his third major win.
Johnny was bred by Diana M Farthing and Dionne
Butt. He is Kelly’s personal dog who delights them at
home with his personality. He lives with Kelly, who
describes him as, “a dog who lives his life to make peo-
ple laugh, and who loves helping to raise her puppies.”
Reserve was Bo-Bett’s Pajama Party, a striking fawn
brindle and white 9-12 puppy owned by Richard Metts,
bred by Carol Harris and Wendy Winans, and handled
by Justin Smithey. “PJ” finished his championship with
this major win.
Sands tops Veteran Sweepstakes Story and photo by Guin Borstel
It was smooth sailing to Best in Veteran Sweepstakes
for GCh. Sporting Fields Beach Baby. "Sands", as she is
known to her friends, was bred by Debbie Butt and
Amanda Giles and is co-owned with her breeders by Da-
vid and Gina Samuelson. She was beautifully handled by
David from the 7-10 bitch class.
Judge Cynthia Unger said that Veteran Sweeps is bar
none her favorite event at the National. This showcase of
our venerable seniors illustrates where we have been as a
breed and gives us a model to aspire to for the future.
Cynthia commented that the quality of her entry was ex-
ceptional, which made judging tonight very difficult
as each class was full of lovely dogs. "I love the old people
best" said Unger.
Owner David Samuelson commented that now that
Sands is almost nine, she only comes out for very special
occasions. She loves to show, but her favorite thing to do
is to snuggle under the covers with her best-loved person
Gina. This was exactly what Sands was off to do after her
win photo session was over tonight!
Best of opposite sex in Veteran Sweepstakes went to
GCh DC Ableaim Patent Pending MC ROMXX from the
7-10 dog class. xxx

On Tuesday: Maple captures top award in both Triathlon and Versatility
In two highly com-
petitive fields that
require the dog and
handler to train and
compete in multiple
areas—combinations
of agility, coursing,
rally and confor-
mation—Terrena’s
High Pitched took
first place in both
Triathlon and Versa-
tility. Maple is
owned by Diane and
David Bolinger, and
was shown by Di-
ane. Diane said just
completing all the
events was a huge,
but satisfying expe-
rience.
