    Dallas Bikeway System

    Overview

    Prior to 2011, Dallas bike facilities consisted of signed on-street

    routes and trails The Dallas Bike Plan was adopted in 2011

    Focus of the new plan is dedicating space on the roadways for

    cyclists via striping and physical separation from cars

    Goal is to have separated bicycle facilities across the city to

    improve mobility and safety

    Plan also calls for use of best practices related to bicycle

    advocacy, education and enforcement

    Goal is to implement the plan over 10 years

    Implementation plan divided work into three phases Near,

    Medium, and Long Term

    The Medium and Long-Term areas will be implementedthrough a combination of: Streets Department operating budget

    Currently funded at $500,000/yr Bond funds as part of street proposition projects.

    Approx. $575k in 2012 Bond funds for street resurfacing over 4 years.

    In order to adhere to the 10-year implementation schedule,additional funding is required. Possible funding sourcesinclude: Bond funds from future bond programs
