•It began in February 2003 when the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army and Justice Equality groups revolted against the Sudanese government over religion.

Oil revenues fund this civil war that violates international human rights and humanitarian law.

The Sudanese government has been charged with crimes against humanity, including:

• Use of mass starvation and mass forcible displacement as a weapon of destruction

• Pattern of obstructing humanitarian aid

• Harassment of internally displaced persons (IDP’s)

• Bombing of hospitals, clinics, schools, and other civilian sites

• Use of rape as a weapon against targeted groups
