But these same advances canpose security risks and increase lifecycleadministration costs especially when thetechnologies span suppliers. When thinking about your approach toprocess safety, it’s important to consider theentire safety loop, since the majority offailures occur outside the logic solver. Morethan 90% of safety instrumented functionfailures occur in the sensors and final controlelements. That’s why the DeltaV SISTM system,part of the Emerson smart SIS, takes adifferent approach to safety. It diagnoses the

complete safety function including theDeltaV SIS logic solver, sensor, and finalcontrol element.

This whole-loop, smart SIS approach usesdigital intelligence and diagnostics to enablemore automated safety loop testing andother features, to increase system availabilitywhile reducing lifecycle costs and easingregulatory compliance.

Whether you’re an engineering andprocurement contractor, systems integrator,or project or plant engineer, you need tocreate and use information to specify, designand implement large projects in a cost-effective and predictable manner. Thecomplete lifecycle of this information must beconsidered to standardize and re-use it for allparties involved in project design andconstruction.

The DeltaV suite of engineering applicationsconnects bi-directionally with Intergraph’sSmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) application,creating and managing the plant’sinstrumentation and wiring information–useful during the project and operationphases of the plant lifecycle. This connectionhelps you reuse the data already entered intoSPI in the DeltaV system.
