Primary: Single Individuals, bachelors, people in rented flats, residential students of high schools and colleges, hostels and working professionals living in transit.Secondary: Doctors at Hospitals, Principals and Teachers of High School, Faculty and students of Colleges.

- Building an effective communication program or awareness intervention in the health sector. - Identifying biases or myths associated with the disease. - Understanding focus groups and their lifestyle patterns. - Designing communication collaterals for health.- Understanding and inter connecting information systems. - Information graphics and effective visual representation of statistics and data.- Amalgamating traditional and new medias of communication.

The intent behind choosing a health issue such as Dengue was because in the monsoon months of August-September last year (2010), many freinds of mine were bitten by the Dengue bug and fell seriously ill with the Dengue fever here at National Institute of Design. An entire floor at boys hostel fell ill with Dengue. Once a case was detected, the Dengue bug spread like wild fire across the hostel rooms. So I thought about finding out more on this issue.

There is an accentuated level of suffering among residential college students, hostel boarders, bachelors and other such people staying away from their hometown and families where most of the running and taking care has to be done by non-family members.

RESEARCH ANALYSIS

NVBDCP Board

A.M.C

REGION: Ahmedabad

Local NGO’s

- PRIMARY:Single Individuals, bachelors, people in rented flats, residential students of high schools and colleges, hostels and working professionals living in transit.

- SECONDARY:Doctors at Hospitals, Principals and Teachers of High School, Faculty and students of Colleges.

- A.M.C. involved in 3 health drives for dengue in a year which cover 15 Lakh dwellings. PUBLIC UNAWARE OF THIS.

- MORE PEOPLE needed by NVBDCP and A.M.C to conduct the health drives.

- The existing designs consist of newsprint pamphlets and Posters in Gujarati language. Also the handouts lack visuals or illustrations.PROBLEM OF PEOPLE FROM OTHER REGIONS TO UNDERSTAND THESE DESIGNS.

- More effective REPRESENTATION OF THE DOCUMENTED STATISTICAL DATA.

- Creating an Awareness Intervention for the health drives for A.M.C. before monsoon months.

- Motivate the youth to join in the health drives and give them incentives to work for it.

- Change of existing designs to make it more visually stimulating or bilingual. Thinking of more effective medias of representation and promotion than just posters, information brochures, booklets or publication.

- Information graphics, visual hierarchy and unique and functional ways of data representation. - Effective representation of the documented statistics or a health report publication will help the NVBDCP to pitch to Govt. for more funds.

-More effective communication about causes and symptoms of the disease.

- Communicating about the preventive measures is MOST IMPORTANT as there is no vaccine for Dengue and prevention is better than cure.

- A more universal and visually rich medium where the visuals become the language for effective communication. Redesigning the website.

- A medium that is omnipresent with the target audience at all times and is important to them.Ex: keychain

- The students are aware of the disease as a moquito biting disease.MINIMAL AWARENESS ABOUT THE CAUSE and SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE.

- UNAWARE OF PREVENTIVE MEASURES EXCEPT FOR BURNING MAT AND APPLYING MOSQUITO REPELLANT CREAMS.

- CANNOT UNDERSTAND THE EXISTING PROMOTION OF A.M.C. EASILY AS IT IS ONLY IN SINGLE GUJARATI LANGUAGE.

- INTERNET plays a greater role than TELEVISION for most students.
