The word sanctified means to be "set apart" or "made holy" for a special

purpose. In the Old Testament Tabernacle there was a bronze washbasin

where the priests washed their hands and feet before appearing before

the Lord (Exodus 30:18-20). Washing was so important as it symbolised

purification. Our hands and feet respectively speak of our actions and of

our walk with God, and both must be washed daily. Psalm 15 says: "Lord, who may abide in Your holy tent?...He who walks uprightly, and

works righteousness."

The Christian's body is a "temple for the Holy Spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:19) and "as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more

and more like Him" (2 Corinthians 3:18). So our earthly pilgrimage is

about continual sanctification - it's about cleaning up our act so God can

use us in positions of honour. Faith demands a high level of commitment:

"much is required from those to whom much is given" (Luke 12:48).

One of my favourite daily devotionals is My Utmost for His Highest by

Oswald Chambers. He writes: "Am I becoming more and more in love with God as a Holy God, or with the conception of an amicable being who says,

"Oh, well, sin doesn't matter much?" Yes, it's true, God's grace is

greater than our sin, but this is a warning to those who've been walking

with God for a long time and finding they're in a rut.

Time is our enemy and the question we must ask ourselves is this: "Are

we any better this year than the year before?" If not, what steps must

we take to allow the process of sanctification, the power of the divine,

to flow through us more effectively?

Be blessed and encouraged.

Tim

Thanks to Martyn Wilkinson and his skills as a carpenter we have

a new font.

This prayer of dedication was

said during a Christening service last month: Members and Friends of TWURC we receive this font as another sign of God's goodness made visible. I dedicate it to the

glory if God, giving thanks to Martyn, and declare it to be for

use in this church in the name of

the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

Well Andy Murray may not have reached the

French Open final but our very own

Frank Jenkins reached the final of the over 85s at Bournemouth last month but was beaten by the

world number 2.

As a result Frank is now seeded 15th in the world rankings. Well done Frank what a fantastic

achievement!

...Jesus refused to deny that He was the Son of God and the Sanhedrin (Jewish Council)

denounced this as blasphemy (Matthew 26:57-67),

punishable by death from stoning (Leviticus 24:16).

Caiaphas had no power to inflict the punishment of death

without the approval of the Roman governor for Judea, and

therefore Jesus was sent to Pontius Pilate (who was in Jerusalem at the time to

preserve order during the Passover), that he might duly

pronounce the sentence against him

(Matthew 27:2; John 18:28).

Pilate hated the Jews whom he ruled and after questioning Jesus

in private (John 18:33-37)

declared that he could find no fault in Him (Luke 23:4).

As Jesus came from Galilee, Pilate sent Him to Herod Antipas,

who had jurisdiction over that province. But Herod mocked Jesus and sent Him back to

Pilate (Luke 23:8-12).

As neither could find fault in Jesus, Pilate had Him flogged

(John 19:1-3) and proposed that He be

released as was the custom (John 18:39). But the religious

leaders had stirred the crowd into a frenzy demanding that Jesus be crucified and the murderer

Barabbas be released instead

(Mark 15:6-14; John 18:40). Pilate reluctantly condemned Jesus to death and calling for water, he washed his hands in

the sight of the people, to remove the guilt of what was

about to happen (Matthew 27:24).

The New Start Group will be having their annual picnic and

walk on Thursday 17th July.

This year we will be visiting Dudmaston Manor.

This event will be open to all church friends who would like

to join us.

For more details please contact John Smith 01902 751405

or Jean Herrington 07816 444130.

Thanks Jean.

Whilst looking through a bookcase I came across The Congregational

Yearbook 1963-4. These annual yearbooks listed the Churches and Ministers plus the proceedings of all the Churches in the then Congregational Union of England and Wales. The table here is an

extract from the Staffordshire Union (Southern District) pages show-ing the Wolverhampton Churches. It is interesting to see that 50 years

ago our Church had 80 members and 150 children plus 13 teachers. It states that there was seating for 400.

This led me to look in another hiding place where I unearthed the Queen Street Congregational Church Manual for 1914, this one

leather bound. (I wonder why Kay thinks I am a hoarder?) The oldest Manual I have is for 1881 - watch this space! The second table here

shows the members in all the branch churches of Queen Street 100 years ago. Tettenhall Wood was almost the same with 70 members, 145 children and 13 Sunday School Teachers plus a Superintendent

and a Secretary.

CHRISTIAN AID Thanks to all those who

helped and to those who

gave. We collected

£839.70 which was up

from last years total by

£30.00.

I will not be able to

organise this next year

due to ill health, so we

need a volunteer to take

over. If you are

interested, please speak

to Sandra Morris.

Thanks again.

Not long ago, webs were for spiders Blackberry and Apple made a pie

And words such phone, pad and player Weren’t constantly prefixed with “I”

Surfing was done at the seafront And cookies were something to eat A virus or bug made you poorly

And spam was a type of tinned meat. On the line was just where we hung washing

No verbs such as “bookmark” or “text Now tweeting is not just for songbirds

And goodness knows what is coming next! Old words have so many new meanings -

Yet I love to learn, so I am willing But right now I’m happy relaxing

Or should I have said, I’m just chilling!

Thank you from Gillian Snaith

I do want you to know how very appreciative I am of the loving support of the Church family.

The lovely cards, encouraging Scriptures, messages, phone calls and importantly your

prayers have meant so much to Robert and myself over recent weeks.

I am pleased to say I am recovering well from the operation. I pay tribute to the brilliant skills of my surgeon, her team, and New Cross staff.

We thank God for all His goodness, and His watchful care every step of the way.

Love in Christ

Gillian Snaith

Dear Tim

We would just like to express our pleasure and gratitude for Colby's wonderful christening service yesterday.

Our Family and friends were very impressed with the service and said they were made to feel most welcome in the church.

I was very touched when we sang 'Sing Hosanna' and the children joined in with their shakers. The hymn has a very special meaning to myself and Family and my Nan Peggy was always trying to get people to clap along to the jolly hymns.

Once again thank you very making Colby's special day a one to remember.

Many thanks

Vicky and Matt x

We as a committee are revamping the bazaar and would like your suggestions for stalls etc, or whether you prefer a gift day,

and any offers of help would be greatly appreciated. Please phone Sandra Morris 741096.

We would like to thank Joyce Morgan for all her organisation and help over the many past years and wish her better health in

the future.
