The Diary of my life
Chapter-16
Before october, 1893 she had studied various subjects.
she read the histories of greece, rome and the united states.
she had a french grammar in raised printshe read the La Fontaine's "fables","Le Malgre Lui" and passages from "Athalie"
She also gave considerable time to the improvement of her speech
she read aloud to Miss Sullivan and recited passages from her favourite poets, which she had committed to memory;
Miss Sullivan corrected her pronunciation and helped her to phrase and inflect.
Miss Sullivan and hellen were at that time in Hulton, Pennylvania, visiting the family of Mr.William Wade. Mr. Irons, a neighbour of theirs, was a good Latin scholer; it was arranged that she sould study under him. He taught her Latin grammar principally; but he often helped her in arithmetic,
Helen did not wih to study Latin Grammar in detail for she felt that there was need for this worthless kind of detail for she felt that there was no need for this worthless kind of detail .
Leter she started enjoying reading and picking up latin passagesendlessly
• Helen realised that there was greater pkeasure in reading languages, enjoying ideas and sentiments.
• Her teacher would spell the Latin words to Helen and she started enjoying learning new words everyday.
Thank you!
