The Mass will be celebrated by the Bishop of Leeds, the Right Reverend Marcus Stock, and includes the blessing of the crib. The Cathedral Choirs sing Haydn’s St Nicholas Mass and the Leeds Trinity University Boys and Girls Choirs will be singing Barry Rose's beautiful arrangement of Still, still, still. THE DIOCESE OF LEEDS MUSIC DEPARTMENT INSPIRING CHILDREN ACROSS YORKSHIRE SUPPORTERS’ NEWSLETTER Ripon Cathedral packed as Van Morrison percussionist and University of Texas join for premiere Leeds Cathedral's Composer in Residence, John Duggan, premiered his ‘Missa Mundi’ (Mass of the World) in Ripon Cathedral on the 18th October. Members of the University of Texas at El Paso Chamber Choir and Trombone Quartet joined us as part of their residence at Leeds Cathedral, singing with Bradford Catholic Youth Choir and over 1000 children from across the Diocese. Preparation included workshops across the Schools Singing Programme, with the UTEP students visiting our Holy Rosary Choir School in Chapeltown. The stunning performance featured world-famous Van Morrison’s percussionist Teena Lyle and organist David Pipe - the superb standard of singing the result of combining expert musicians with enthusiastic children and supportive schools! Organist Training Programme expands! Following the success of our Schools Singing Programme (the largest church programme of choral music for young people in the United Kingdom), we launched the Organists Training Programme in May 2016. Providing young people with the rare opportunity to study the organ, the programme now boasts over 30 pupils weekly and continues to expand, securing the future generation of organists. Bradford Catholic Youth Choir performs with world-famous Gabrieli Consort Partners with Gabrieli Roar since 2015, Bradford Catholic Youth Choir has received training from Gabrieli’s professional musicians, and taken part in a number of concerts alongside the Consort, under the direction of Paul McCreesh. In December 2017 BCYC join Gabrieli for a revival of the consort's acclaimed 'Mass for Christmas Morning', with concerts in Bradford and Hull.
