Thernoelectric Power Plants
Example of Italian Thermoelectric Power Plant
4 *320 MWe groups
Each group: 60-70 ton/h oil consumption
Electric/thermal efficiency about 45%
Chimney 250 metres high
Electric power consumption peak in Italy
about 55000 MW
Prof. Gianantonio MagnaniDEI
11Concentrated Solar Power Plants
Example: Plataforma Solar de Almeria (Spain)
PSA facilities
Total CSP power online 1170 MW (year 2011)
About 17000 MW under development worldwide
Larger power figures are achieved by solar photovoltaics power stations and wind farms
Largest concentraded solar facility: Mojave desert
Rated electric power: 354 MW – 75 MW equivalent based on yearly average production (75/354=21%)
About 6500 m^2 mirrors/MW

Energy production and energy savings
DEI has a long term experience in modeling, simulation and control system design of electric power plants.
Producing energy Is an hazardous activity with major impact on the environment
Even renewable energy sources have non-negligible impact
-> maximize efforts for energy saving

15Design and evaluation of a ZEV sharing system in Milan
The project
Green Move (GM) is an ongoing project (start: March 2011 – end: March 2013) financed by the Lombardia Region (budget: about 2.5M) that aims at designing and implementing a vehicle-sharing system in Milan (and extension to the whole Lombardia Region), able to offer to the users different categories of ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicles).
The system aims to be open, standardized, interoperable, modular, multi-business (a central agency will manage the coordinating system, but the single element may be owned by different public administrations or companies), in order to support the spread of the service on the territory and among new vehicle fleets owners and users. A trial will be carried out with a limited number of docking stations in a specific area of Milan.
Given the multi-disciplinarity of the project and the multiplicity of the tasks to be carried out, GM involves 8 departments and research centres of Politecnico di Milano.

A complete portfolio of EVs will be equipped with the green-box and tested along different parameters; among others:
•Classical “EV” parameters (range, time-of-recharge, etc.)
•How easy is to “connect” the green-box
•Management of built-in and external (green-box) user interface
•Vehicle dynamics
•User acceptance
