Fr. Ennio Mantovani, SVD Ennio Mantovani was born in Italy, completed his philosophical and theological studies in St. Ga- briel, Mödling, near Vienna, Austria, where he was ordained in 1958. He completed his doctoral stu- dies at the Gregorian University specializing in the phenomenology of religion of primal people. In 1962 he arrived in the then Australian Terri- tory of Papua and New Guinea where he worked as pioneer in the Highlands of Papua New Gui- nea for 15 years, after which he was appointed to the Melanesian Institute which had been founded to introduce the new missionaries to the cultural and pastoral situation of Papua New Guinea. After twenty years at the Institute, Fr. Manto- vani was invited to lecture at the YTU, of which he is now a lecturer emeritus. Fr. Ennio Mantovani, SVD

philosophical and theological studies in St. Ga-

briel, Mödling, near Vienna, Austria, where he was

ordained in 1958. He completed his doctoral stu-

dies at the Gregorian University specializing in the

PRINCIPAL SPEAKER:

Therese D’Orsa

Therese D’Orsa trained as a teacher

and throughout her career has held

many senior educational roles.

Therese is currently Professor of Mis-

sion and Culture in BBI-TAITE, the

Australian Institute for Theological

Education, and within the Sydney

College of Divinity. She currently

heads the Masters program in Lea-

dership and Theology. Therese is a member of the Austra-

lian Association of Mission Studies, a Fellow of the Austra-

lian College of Educators, and represents Oceania in the

International Association of Catholic Missiologists.

Therese has published widely, in close collaboration with

her husband Jim, in a variety of publications. She is very

passionate about the responsibilities of each faith commu-

nity in terms of mission animation and education.

RESPONDENT:

Jim D’Orsa

Jim D’Orsa’s contributions to Catholic

education include teaching and senior

leadership in Catholic schools and

systems. He pioneered the prepara-

tion of lay leaders to take responsibili-

ty for the vision and mission of co-

lleges, and has extensive experience

in reviewing large systems, and in

pastoral planning. Jim is currently As-

sociate Professor at BBI-TAITE, where

he has been the principal designer and writer of a Masters

Degree in Leadership and Theology.

Recent publications include five books integrating missio-

logy and education (with his wife Therese), and with Bishop

Hilton Deakin a book on the Catholic Church and the strug-

gles of the East Timorese people for self-determination.

CHAIRPERSON:

Peter Wilkinson

Peter Wilkinson, BEd, LMiss., D.Miss. (Pontifical Gregorian

University), is a missiologist and former Columban missio-

nary priest who ministered in Australia

and South Korea. After resigning from

ministry in 1976, he worked at the

Good Neighbour Council of Victoria, as

Director of the Clearing House on Mi-

gration Issues at the Ecumenical Migra-

tion Centre, as a Senior Research Fe-

llow at the Australian Institute of Multi-

cultural Affairs, and as a visiting Lectu-

rer in the Missiology Department of Yarra Theological

Union.

He is currently retired, but continues his interest in mission

as Treasurer of the Australian Association for Mission Stu-

dies, and in Catholic Church reform through Catholics for

Renewal. He writes frequently on parish ministry, synods

and councils in Australia with many of his articles publis-

hed in The Swag, the magazine of the National Coun-

cil of Priests.
