Housed in the beautiful surroundings of the 19th century Dock building The Jury Room Cafe Bar is open from 10.30am (Tuesday–Saturday) providing a warm and convivial atmosphere in which you can relax, pore over the daily newspaper or read from the large selection of books and journals that adorn it’s shelves. The cafe serves a selection of speciality coffees and fairtrade teas as well delicious homemade scones and cakes. An ideal place for elevenses or to meet friends during the day. The Jury Room is also open on the evening of performances at The Dock from 7.45pm so you can enjoy a pre-show or interval drink. Barbara Falkowska (b. 1931,
Grodno,nowBelarus)isoneofa
numberofprominenttextileartists
of her generation who advanced
the status of Polish textile art
internationally. Throughout her
career,Falkowskahas focusedon
producing complex handwoven
textiles from homespun and
vegetable-dyed wool, sisal and
flax. Her work is held by many
collections internationally; she
has exhibited at MoMA, New York and just recently at Zachęta
ContemporaryArtMuseuminWarsawaswellassoloexhibitionsin
London,Copenhagen,Stockholm,HalifaxandthroughoutPoland.The
Dock’sthreemaingallerieswillfeaturearetrospectiveofFalkowska’s
works,whichfocusonphenomenonandfloraandfaunaofthenatural
world--allmade at home in a high-rise apartment block inWarsaw,
whereshehaslivedforallofheradultlife.
ThetitleoftheshowistakenfromrecentinterviewswithFalkowska
aboutherworks,manyofwhichshesays,were‘supposedtobeabout
the sky’ but ended up being about other less ethereal things, e.g.,
stones,beetrootorpotatoes.

April by The Dock in association with Phase One Electronic Music and Arts Festival,
Soundsworks is a bespoke installation presented as part of Crash Ensembles’ 2014
residency in The Dock. This unique aural experience features the works of composers
working in the field of electro-acoustic composition.

OIL paInTInG wOrKsHOp wITH arTIsT LaUra GaLLaGHErIn advance of the new term Laura will run a full day’s workshop for all levels and abilities.
Participants are welcome to work in oil or acrylic and are encouraged to work from a
photo or an object of their choosing. They will be guided by Artist Laura Gallagher on
how to get the most out of their medium, while looking at colour mixing tips, paint
application, composition and how to build up your painting in layers. Suggested materials
list is available on request. A follow up day to complete any work not finished on the day
can be arranged if needed by the group. Laura will be running her popular oil painting
class starting on Tuesday 21st January 7-9pm. Bookings through The Dock box office.
