To page 2 I hope you re having a fun summer. The weather has been pretty severe with heat and humidity. At least the humidity helps protect us from forest fires, unlike the Western US. But, it is hard to put up with it when you must work outdoors. That s plenty obvious when Im working in the shop to finish the resto- ration of our ’63 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk. Despite big fans, I get soaking wet. Working outdoors is just as bad. Just cutting the grass and raking is tough, but now is the time for trimming shrubs, trees and rose bushes. If you use ladders, please be careful. Some friends and neighbors have been seri- ously injured, some permanently, one fatally, falling from lad- ders. Avoid them if you can and use them very carefully with helpers if you must use them. I hope this note finds you healthy. So many of our mem- bers are experiencing some kind of health problem. The worry and depression, mounting medical bills, and long hours of care- giving can take a toll on our resources and courage. If you are well, count your blessings and maybe reach out to a family with illness. Go visit, especially nursing homes, or offer to take care of a friend while the spouse runs errands or, better yet, takes personal time for some kind of social outing. If you are the caregiver, accept offers of help, ask for help and take care of yourself. If the caregiver gets overwhelmed with stress, the ill person will suffer too and perhaps be without a caregiver. Our prayers and best wishes go out to all who are having health is- sues. If you can get out, fall is near and with it comes the prom- ise of cooler, drier weather and lots of fun events, from local Cars and Coffee, cruise-ins and outings to big stuff like Cruisinthe Coast and the Sentimental Tour. Were in the final days of regular registration (cars 1928-1958) for the Sentimental and well have a good attendance. Maybe youve signed up as a volunteer (any car). Hope to see you there.

2018 AACA National Meets & Tour

Our Louisiana Region Winter General Membership Meeting, Executive Board meeting and Christmas Party is set for Sun-day, December 2nd, 11am at Drucilla’s Res-taurant in Baton Rouge. This is always a very pleasant event and a good way to start the holidays. We hope to see you there.

Time is moving along and we are ap-proaching two months to the start of the 10

th AACA National Sentimental Tour spon-

sored by the LA Region. We now have 60 vehicles and 125 people registered for the tour. The vehicles come from many parts of the United States, including California, Con-necticut and Florida plus one from Ontar-io. Obviously this is truly a National Tour. For the past three weeks Keith Turner has been busy processing applications and forwarding funds to treasurer Charlie Mat-thews who is making sure we have money available for the Tour. Fred Duplechin has previously done our publicity and art work and now has the dash plaques prepared for ordering. Herb Comeaux and the Froeh-lichs have been busy working on routes, tour stops, meals, etc. We have received some absolutely beautiful paddle wheel steam boat trophies from Harold Breaux. Contraband Chapter has offered to solve some of our coffee stop and lunch problems. Ralph Towner is busy preparing set-ups for the Sentimental Star newslet-ter. Joanna Cooper, Freddie Hebert and others are planning the hospitality room. We have numerous other clubs and individuals working on various assign-ments. I offer a big thank you to all who have assisted and volunteered. Of course we will still accept assistance and donations of food and drink for the hospitality room, cof-fee breaks and lunches. Please contact Charlie Froehlich a 601-749-9935 or any of the other chair persons with your offers to help make this a truly Louisiana Region sponsored function.

Thank you, Charlie Froehlich

It’s time for the election of the 2019 offic-ers. Everyone will be receiving a ballot to be returned to me for counting. I have attached a list of the 2018 La Region members. I would like everyone to check their infor-mation and if there are any changes to be made, please send me the corrections. This will help me get the ballots to you. The annual Winter Meeting will be 12/2/18 at Drusilla Place in Baton Rouge. More information in the next Oct. Duster.

Founded in Philadelphia in 1935, its membership has grown to over 60,000 members from all parts of the world. The AACA holds country-wide competitive and noncompetitive tours, meets and events. These are on a divisional basis offering a program within the reach of everyone. The AACA is proud of its relationship with the many historical organizations devoted to similar objectives the world over. The Club, through its national office, publications, and membership, aids individuals, libraries, historians and collectors dedicated to the preservation of automotive history. VEHICLES Road vehicles of all types, 25 years old and older are grouped for competitive purposes into many classes according to age and mechanical features. AACA has a comprehensive judging system that allows members to earn significant awards for their vehicles. In non-competitive classes, AACA also recognizes original cars in its Historic Preservation of Original Features (HPOF) group, and unmodified 25 year and older vehicles that are driven and have not obtained a First Junior award in its Drivers Participation Class (DPC) . Recent recognitions have come to competitive vehicles (race cars) and Second Generation Class Vehicles (SGCV) for factory-assembled cars that resemble original cars (Avanti, Clenet, Shay and Zim-mer). The club recognizes classes of motorcycles and documented race cars as well. Further details can be found in our judging manual which is available online at www.aaca.org
