As we continue todive deeper to get in-sights on human lifeand behaviour, itwon’t be wrong to saythat whatever hu-mans are today aredue to various learn-ings during theirgrowth on this planetearth and it’s a con-tinuous journey.

“Hypocrisy is Neg-ative” is a deep-rootedtalk within society.Hypocrisy is found ev-erywhere. Now thequestion arises fromwhere the humanshave learnt hypocri-sy? No child is born asa hypocrite. The factis the child learns hy-pocrisy during thegrowth period fromparents, teachers, so-ciety & media to namethe few. The way hu-man express theirfeelings have a largeimpact on children. We claim to be fight-ing against hypocrisyand we express disap-pointment whensomeone is found to bea hypocrite. But thereality of hypocrisy isthat it is cautiouslytaught, nurtured &has become a way ofliving life. Talkingagainst hypocrisy hasbrought along with ita great business op-portunity too.

Let’s take someexamples to under-stand. Most of the TV/Print and others werecrying loudly andclaiming that Nirb-haya’s rape and mur-der has shaken up en-tire India. But if youcan recollect, you willget some insights.News channels wereconstantly shoutingand showing whathappened with Nirb-haya and were de-

Hypocrisy- a fact checkmanding justice, but atthe same time after ev-ery 15 mins they wereshowing advertise-ments filled with somuch of joy e.g. cars ofgreat capability, peopledoing stunts, goodnessof spices, children en-joying, couple’s lovefilled life and manysuch fun filled and joyfilled advertisements.Let’s talk about whathappened on November2019, the gang rape andmurder of a 26-year oldveterinary Doctor inS h a m s h a b a d ,near Hyderabad, whichpresumably sparkedoutrage across India. Itwas claimed that theentire country wasburning. But in reality

was entire countryburning? Definitely asection of society wasfeeling sad and an-gered. But if you lookback at that day’snewspapers you couldsee wonderful & verypositive news and ad-vertisements were pub-lished showing no exist-ence of anger across thecountry. News channelwere showing all typesof advertisementsshowing people enjoy-ing. I have seen manycolonies had family cel-ebrations/ birthdays orother events on thesame day.

The question arisesis what are we teachingour children? The an-swer is that we areteaching them to speakone thing and also acttotally differently. When we say the entirecountry celebrated aparticular religious ornational festival, thetruth is that only somegroups or sections ofsociety might have cel-ebrated.

If we really want toend hypocrisy, then wehave to start a mecha-nism which can facili-

tate it. Every wordwhat we speak mustbe aligned with ac-tions.

Many statementsare made only to pleaseothers. On one handwe talk about savingelectricity and the oth-er hand the shoppingmalls are beautifullylit well beyond busi-ness hours. See hous-es of rich and famous, they use electricitymulti-fold more thanwhat they need. Fullnight the hoardingswith advertisementsare lit, wasting elec-tricity. Virtual classes : Need toissue uniform guidelines

The Covid 19 pandemic has necessi-tated the need to bring about severalchanges in our lifestyle. Even in educationsector, the scenario has changed consid-erably and the virtual classes, which weretaken during lockdown to complete thesyllabus, now requires detailed analysis asthese appear to stay for a longer period.

While the benefits of virtual classes areseveral, the foremost of course during thepandemic, is social distancing. With mostof the parents and even the educators ap-prehensive of starting the schools and col-leges, digital classes appear to be the onlysolution, at least till situation as far as Covid19 is concerned, comes undercontrol.

F l e x i b l eschedule, easyaccess are theother benefits. Moreover, it isfelt that onlinelearning canhelp studentsharness theirstrengths and minimize weaknesses. How-ever, in Indian scenario, where many ar-eas still face internet connectivity, digitalclasses may pose a challenge. Moreover, virtual classes require self-discipline. Fur-ther, keeping up with assignments mayalso become challenging to students whoare not well versed with digital function-ing. Then of course, one basic loophole isthat there is no one-on-one interaction withthe peers and teachers. This becomes par-ticularly difficult for the toddlers whoseattention span is very limited and who re-quire constant pat and appreciation fromthe teachers and a cheer from the otherchildren.

Moreover, many teachers are still notquite comfortable with e-learning. Howev-er, in the present scenario, it would bewiser to go for digital classes. However, this would require a detailed analysis. Itwould be essential for the educators towork out ways so that there is uniformityand learning is both fun and effective. Tobegin with introductory workshops shouldbe conducted for teachers so that theybecome accustomed to the new system.Secondly, to create virtual classrooms, eclassroom etiquettes could be adopted. The students, for instance, could be askedto wear uniforms, to sit properly on a chairand with no interruptions in between.

Like in other areas, education sectortoo requires a complete revamp and thesooner it is done, the better it is.

Time to support parallel media

The newspaper in-dustry faces a doublesqueeze: the print busi-ness continues heavilyto subsidize digitaljournalism, which can-not pay for itself by at-tracting enough adver-tising or subscriptionsor a mixture of the two;and the new digitalplayers put increasingpressure on newspapercirculation, readership, and the business itself. Thus far we have at-tempted to provide abird’s eye view of thequantitative trends inorder to place India inglobal media context.

What about theroles and functions ofthe news media andtheir qualitative perfor-mance? In order to be-gin to answer this ques-tion, we need to delveinto history. The mediain India is perhaps oneof the strongest and themost free in the world. It is perhaps becauseyoung people who wantto become journalistsare given the right ad-vice. With Coronaviruspounding the people allover the place, the printmedia is struggling forsurvival during pan-

demic days.It is time to keep

parallel media to sur-vive in this competitiveworld. News today as-sumes greater impor-tance and people glue totheir television sets toget the latest informa-tion. We have now"Breaking News" to pro-vide the much neededexcitement. Punchlines occupy the top pri-ority. Moreover, peoplego out in less numbersand housing societiesare not allowing news-paper vendors to enterhousing complexes.Newspaper stands arelosing importance aspeople prefer to readonline newspapers andthereby the sale in thestands will diminishover a period of time.

Newspaper produc-tion is an act that ac-tually starts from thegathering of news sto-ries, articles, opinions, advertorials and adver-tisements to printingand folding of the socalled Hard Copy. Usu-ally the news is print-ed onto newsprint. It isa matter of tough com-petition that makesnewspapers offeringfreebies to extend theirsurvival in the mediaworld.

By bringing the bestin parallel media, wecan see light at the end

of the tunnel and in-crease the readershipmarginally better.

The coronavirus cri-sis has changed theworld completely in thelast few months. All ofus have been lockedinto our homes, eco-nomic activity has cometo a near standstill.Everyone has been im-pacted. Including yourfavourite English andother languages news-papers. Throughout thecountry both the print-ing and distributionchains have been se-verely disrupted acrossthe country, leavingreaders without accessto newspapers. News-paper delivery agentshave also been unableto service their custom-ers because of multiplerestrictions.

In these difficulttimes, we, the freelanc-ers have been workingcontinuously every dayso that you are in-formed about all thedevelopments – wheth-er on the pandemic, onpolicy responses, or theimpact on the world ofbusiness and finance. We have been workinground the clock to keeptrack of developmentsso that you the readergets accurate informa-tion and actionable in-sights so that you canprotect your jobs, busi-

nesses, finances andinvestments.

We are trying ourbest to ensure the news-paper reaches you an e-copy or an availablehard copy. We have alsoensured that even ifyour paper is not deliv-ered, you can access itin the e-paper formatjust as it appears inprint. Print media web-sites and apps too, areupdated every minute,so that you can accessthe information youwant anywhere, any-time.

But all this comes ata heavy cost. As you areaware, the lockdownshave wiped out almostall the revenue stream.Sustaining best qualityjournalism has becomeextremely challenging. That has been managedso far. I appeal to all ourreaders to help printmedia to navigate thesechallenging times andhelp parallel media tosustain one of the trulyindependent and credi-ble voices in the worldof Indian journalism.Doing so is easy. It istimely help simply bysubscribing to digital ore-paper editions. A lit-tle help from you canmake a huge differenceto the cause of qualityjournalism! The writer is freelancerfrom Sanpda, Navi Mumbai

Letters to the Editor....School fees should be reduced by atleast50%: Parents

Every school has decided to collect full fees forthe Academic Year 2020-21 and they will provideOnline classes. With this system and procedure theywill make big amount and their recurring expendi-ture will be reduced to 60% as they will be savingon Electricity Bill, monthly overhead expenses andother expenses.

We, the parents, have burden of paying fees atthis pandemic situation and none of the schools havedecided to reduce the fees. As per the current situa-tion of Covid-19 in Mumbai, none of the school willstart functioning till September or may be furtherand we parents are in pain to pay the school feesforcibly.

I request Maharashtra Education Minister tolook into the issue at earliest and give their valu-able opinion on School Fees.

Many of the people are facing financial crunch. They are unable to manage even their home withhard earned savings.

I request everyone to give their opinion whatschool Management has to do, how they should takeforward the classes, how much fees to be chargedfor Online classes, what support can be sought fromthe government so that we can overcome this situ-ation.

We are not against paying fees, but we request

the Government, Maharashtra Education Minister,School Management, School Trustee to reduce the feesto 50% and support everyone during this pandemicsituation.

Dr Binu Varghese, Social Activist/Journalist.

Precaution to be taken as city opens upDuring this time of Coronavirus, buy vegetables

early in the morning and leave it for 6 hours. After 6hours, consider it as safe as it used to be before Coronaexisted.

Avoid buying vegetables in the evening; it’s theleftover of all day, touched by hundreds of people whocame to the shop and chose the best of the lot.

Once you have cooked vegetable, there are no chanc-es of Corona being still active in it. Its completely safeto be consumed.

Avoid eating raw vegetables and fruits as soon asyou bring them home. Also avoid keeping them in thefridge. Keep them soaked in water or in open if theyare not too perishable.

Higher chances of infection is when you touch themat the shop itself or when you exchange cash with theshopkeeper. He comes in contact with hundreds ofpeople everyday and goes to crowded wholesale mar-kets everyday to purchase them. These days, thewholesale markets of vegetables and fruits are the big-

gest carriers of Coronavirus.Stock non perishable items for a week, if possi-

ble. Also, reduce your frequency of visiting the mar-ket.

As soon as you come home, wash your handsproperly, possibly take a bath and keep the clothesaway which you wore to the shop.

Do not use sanitizer or disinfectant on fooditems.

Do not let your kids touch them before 4-6 hoursof being brought and you should not touch the kidsbefore you take a bath or at least wash your hands.

Try to pay online as much as possible. Thesedays even small shops accept paytm and phone pe,etc.

Do not wash vegetables and fruits with soap orany such chemicals like handwash. A professor andsafety specialist in North Carolina State Universi-ty, Benjamin Chapman came forward saying thatthe use of dish soaps or any kind of soap has al-ways been harmful for consumption and may leadto various health problems. He said, “We’ve knownfor 60 years that there are toxicity issues aboutconsuming household dish soaps. Drinking dishsoap or eating it can lead to nausea. It can alsolead to an upset stomach. It’s not a compound thatour stomach is built to deal with. He advised peo-ple to wash their fruits and vegetables with coldwater instead as it gets 90-99% of germs out.
