reckoned astronomically extending from the March equinox to the

June solstice

Greetings 7D Residents & Guests,

Above is the definition of spring, according to the Merriam-

Webster Dictionary online version. In recent years, I have enjoyed

the hobby of looking up words and their definitions, and adore a

thesaurus for the extra variety of words offered.

It seems appropriate with this Echo issue to begin anew, therefore,

let me introduce myself to bring all of this together. Some of you

have already met or even worked with me in the past several

weeks. I’m the Town Clerk of Seven Devils, but everyone calls me,

Hillary. In case you are wondering why there hasn’t been a winter

edition of the Echo, I will raise my hand and confess.

Just like the definition of spring, being a time of growth, accepting

the position of Town Clerk has been the same. When I learned that

one of my tasks would be creating the Echo newsletter, I was

excited for the opportunity. My goal with this newsletter is to keep you updated about events in Seven

Devils that should be both enlightening and informative. Since I have never written a newsletter, it’s

likely you will notice differences between this version and previous.

But isn’t that the beauty of spring? To witness the changes that occur in these months, the blossoming

flowers, chirping birds, opening leaf buds and understand the transition of the season, even when

compared to the past.

Soon, the Town of Seven Devils will be bustling with the return of residents and guests, so bring out the

lightweight clothing, start planning your social calendar and enjoy this spring edition of the Echo.

Meanwhile, it’s time for the Town Clerk to go have fun with the dictionary,

July 1st – Saturday is Seven Devils SafetyFest @ 10:00am – 3:00pm

This is the 14th year of this fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting the Seven Devils Fire, Police

& Public Works Departments. These additional funds make it possible to purchase safety

equipment, protective clothing, etc., thereby benefitting Residents, Visitors & Town Employees.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED – Please see the attached flyer for the details of fun to enjoy!!

January 2017- Public Works Update

Work began on the Skyland Drive waterline project with completion to occur

by the end of April. Mild winter conditions have been the new normal, however

Public Works Department has done a stellar job keeping the roads clear when

snow has fallen.

February 2017 - Zone Code “PARKS”

The “Parks” designation has been added to the Official Zoning Map of the Town

of Seven Devils, N.C. Map of Avery and Watauga Counties, dated September

10, 2013. The new Zoning Map approved on February 14, 2017 is featured on

the 7D website…take a look!

March 2017 – Otter Falls

A Recreational Trails Program grant application has been submitted to

support the extension of hiking trails within the Town. Updates to follow during the

next several months. A wonderful observation deck has been constructed, allowing for

better views of Otter Falls, and directional signs are displayed for visitors. Unfortunately, due to

repeated vandalism, the donation box at Otter Falls has been removed.

Donations can now be made at Town Hall.
