Well it must be spring, the brown bins are being emptied and there are lambs in thefields of Ecton (as well as some horses on the front cover), be warned though, we haveordered some new garden furniture and last time we did this it turned out to be thewettest summer of the century!Unfortunately last month we had two break-ins in the village in broad daylight! I wouldlike to stress that, thankfully, these events are very rare, but are still very upsetting forall concerned, so please take extra care in ensuring you have locked windows and doorsespecially as the weather gets warmer. There are some helpful hints from NorthamptonNeighbourhood Watch in this months magazine. Please call 101 or 999 if you seeanything suspicious.A couple of shout-outs for two events coming up in the village, The Bavarian Night, backby popular demand, make sure you get you tickets, they are selling fast. I am personallylooking forward to seeing Amelia White at the Three Horseshoes on 28th April, Amelia isone of many artists from the USA to feature at the pub, thanks to the efforts of PaulDarwin and the support of Steve, Keith & the team. Amelia is one of the top artist in hergenre in the US. Originally from Boston, she now lives, works and writes in East NashvilleTennessee. Her current album is a collection of songs written on her last tour of the UKin 2016. Entry is free, so please give generously when the ‘hat’ is passed around.See you all in MayWendy

Collectors will be calling during March and April to ask if you would liketo take part in the new lottery beginning on 1st May 2019.As usual entry is £12 per year for each number and the draw takesplace early every month. Results are published in Ecton View and on the notice-boards in thevillage.

1st prize £50; 2nd prize £15; 3rd prize £10.Half the total raised is used for the prizes and the remainder is used tohelp maintain the Church building.Mary Dicks - 01604 407145

The new and expanded conservation area was formallyapproved at the end of last year and if you are unaware of this you may like to have alook at the following link

http://www.wellingborough.gov.uk/info/1004/planning_policy/1385/ecton_conservation_area_appraisal_consultation_draft_january_2018

which provides the detailed report and an interactive map.Following the previous consultation in 2017 we are now preparing to publish the presubmission Plan which includes the new conservation area and has taken note of manyof the comments received. The leaflet will explain in more detail how we plan to proceed and how you cancomment further as part of the final consultation before the plan progresses through thestatutory steps. We would be grateful if everyone could engage with this process by reading the leafletand the plan as it provides our community with an opportunity to set planning policiesfor the parish of Ecton

Rector’s Letter Ecton April 2019

This year, as in other years, an Easter card will be delivered to everyhome in the village, a card which details the services taking placeacross the benefice of Great Doddington, Wilby and Ecton. On thefront of the card there is an empty wooden cross and the words“Amazing Love”.The background symbolises the change from darkness to light, broughtabout by Jesus’ sacrifice, for us all, on the cross. The cross is one of the most recognised symbols in the world and an empty crossreminds us of the reality we celebrate at Easter, Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. The resurrection is the central truth of the Christian faith, brought about by theamazing love of God, making Easter the greatest celebration in the Church calendar. We have several services in the lead up to Easter, detailed in the card. Please do joinus for as many as you can, details can also be found in this magazine and on thewebsite www.gdwebenefice.wordpress.com .On Easter Day, Sunday 21st April, there will be an All Age service of Holy Communionat 10am, with the church beautifully decorated and the sound of Alleluia!resounding round the building. The Church is here for everyone, whether you attend regularly or not and as a newinitiative we now commit to praying for one road in the benefice each week. Pleasesee the separate article for more details.I look forward to seeing many of you over the Easter period andwish you all a very happy and blessed Easter,Yours in Christ,Revd. Jackie Buck 01933 631232

Praying for our BeneficeA new initiative has just begun involving the churches of Great Doddington, Wilbyand Ecton praying for a road in the benefice each week.People are invited to pray in whatever way they find most comfortable and there is aset prayer which can be used. The prayer is on the website and available from church. The roads will be printed weekly in the News Sheet and sent to the Prayer Chain eachSaturday. They will also be on the website and in the Magazine. This month’s roads are: 7th April: Northampton Road (Ecton)

14th April: Banbury Close (Wilby Way)21st April: Main Road (Wilby)28th April: Church Lane (Great Doddington)

If you would like prayer, at any time, please do contact Revd. Jackie Buck on 01933631232 or [email protected].

ECTON SAFARI SUPPER - Saturday 9th November(in aid of Ecton Church Roof Fund & “Survivors of Modern Slavery”)How does it work? All the guests go on safari, moving from house to house between courses. Theevening will begin at 7.30pm as we all meet together in one house for a pre-dinner drink andcanapés. Everyone then moves to different houses - with different groups of people - for eachcourse. The evening will end with everyone together again for cheese, coffee and port.

Who can take part? Everyone! It’s a great way to meet friends and neighbours – particularly ifyou are new to Ecton.

What do I have to do? We do need people to host a main course or a pudding for 8 people, or tobring a plate of canapés to the pre-dinner drinks house. If you haven’t hosted before you’ll beextra welcome! It’s not a cookery competition – simple food is fine. (There will be a financialcontribution for the food and wine). We are also looking for someone to host the canapés at the start of the evening and the cheeseand port at the end. Please let us know if you are able to help – we need a house that comfortablyholds approx. 80 people.

What does it cost? Tickets are £18 per person (and we will be selling raffle tickets on the night, soplease bring some extra pennies with you!).

More questions or to book a place? Email ([email protected]) or ring either Carol(402907) or Caroline (07590 209311).

P.S. If you’re interested in organising the next Safari Supper, let us know and we can involve you inthis one to give you a head start!

Village Hall Annual General MeetingTuesday 9th April at 7.30pm

All villagers are invited to join us for a drink at the village hall onTuesday April 9th to hear a report on the committee’s actions over

the last 12 months and our thoughts on the future.

A very important part of the meeting is to hear your views on whatevents or activities you would like to see at the hall. Remember it is

your village hall, so, to give the committee the best chance ofmeeting the needs of the village we need your input.

Being a committee member is not just about organising events; wehave to “manage” the hall too. No matter what skills you have, there

are always ways that you could contribute to the running of thisimportant village asset. So, we would be very keen to know of

anyone who would be willing to join the Committee.

This years tournament will be held on Tuesday 21st May 2019 atOverstone Park Golf Club. Thanks to some generous sponsorship from the 3 Horseshoes the costwill be even lower than last year.

Depending on numbers APPROX cost will be:

£18 for Overstone Park members £30 for Non-members

£15 for dinner guests. Please advise Steve Hunt of your intention to play ASAP by email [email protected] by phone on 0754 546 3721

Taking just a few steps can make a big difference in keeping your home safe fromburglary. Here are a few tips: 1. Lock your doors and windows every time you leave the house, even when you're just out in the garden, remembering to double-lock UPVC doors (lift handle and turn key). 2. Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and away from the letterbox (remember a device could be used to hook keys through the letterbox). 3. Install a visual burglar alarm (as part of a suite of prevention measures - a burglar alarm on its own will not prevent entry to your home). 4. Install good outside lighting. 5. Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property. 6. Leave radios or lights in your house on a timer to make the property appear occupied. 7. Make sure the fences around your garden are in good condition. 8. Secure bikes at home by locking them to an immoveable object inside a locked shed or garage. 9. Keep ladders and tools stored away; don't leave them outside where they could be used to break into your home. 10. Ensure side gates are locked to prevent access to the rear of the property. 11. Ensure rear fencing is in good repair. 12. Improve natural surveillance at the front of your property i.e. trim high hedges. 13. Mark your property with postcode and house number and register your property for free with Immobilise at http://www.immobilise.com/ 14. Consider joining a Neighbourhood Watch scheme http://www.ourwatch.org.uk/ 15. Remove valuables from view of ground floor windows. 16. Store any high value items (i.e. jewellery, passports) in a properly secured safe or bank vault.
