Student: Ernest ShtepaniProfessor: Daniel Dendra
Cad Logic 3 winter semester 09-10
Work done by: Ernest ShtepaniProfessor : Daniel Dendra
In this booklet is described the process of the second stage of work for the subject of Cad logic in this semester
-Eden Project
-Strategy for Generating in 3d dimensions the Project using some innovative tools of software.
-Sketch Up 7 Innovative Plugging “Soap Bubble”
-Generation with Sketch Up AndExportation to Rhino.
-Grasshopper, compatibility of sketch Up.
-Generation of Hexagons version 1
-Generation of Hexagons version 2
-Generation of Hexagons steel-frame.

Starting from dividing the process into several steps such as unities and elements. The project Is made up from hemispheres forming 2 buildings, which are almost identical.
-Once finished with the 2 main volumes with 5 bubbles each the next step would be generation of the hexagons. One factor is that all hexagons are the same sixe perfectly spread through the hemisphere.
-Step 3 would be to complete the work by generating the steel frame in each hexagon.
Soap Bubble is a innovative Sketch Up 7 plug-in which allows visualization of once difficult to generatetensile and organic structures, such as pneumatic Structures, tensile structures, shapes as those of zeppelins, balloons, circus tents, and many more. Inspired by this plug-in I thought of using it to create the bubbles in the Eden Park.
Choise of the software
Step-1 Generating Eden Bubbles in Sketch Up.
Using the tool Soap Bubble we can generate a volume from each 2 curves which form a closed frame. The pressure we give indicates the height of the bubble that could be positive or negative.
Importing sketch up model to Rhino.
The model is exported as a mesh. In order to apply components it need to be rebuild as a surface
With the program keeping as reference the sketch up bubbles we transform the mesh into a Surface
Grasshopper definition Mesh to Surface
Create a sphere from the mesh points
Now we have the exact shape
Cut the sphere to hemisphere
-Step 2-Generation of Hexagons version 1
First Grasshopper definition generated the hexagons. With this method the size of hexagons changes to the poles of the sphere.

Generation of Hexagons version 2
In this Grasshopper definition we can have hexagons of the same size based on the geodesic triangulation method
