The election of 1928
In this election, the Republican candidate Herbert Hoover destroyed the democratic candidate Alfred E.Smith. Hoover had 444 electoral votes while Smith had 87. This election was the last in a series of republican dominated elections.

❖ After the election of Herbert Hoover the very next year the Depression hit the U.S. but affected the whole world.
❖ Sharp decrease in world trade while countries were focusing on protecting their own industries.

The election
❖ This election was so crucial because it was in the midst of the Great Depression. People were utterly miserable and were in the Darkest Days of the Depression.
❖ The people put blame on the previous president ,Herbert Hoover, for the Depression.
❖ This election represented a dramatic shift in the political alignment of the country.
FDR’s Campaign ● Through his presidential
campaign he didn’t have to do much against an already disliked Hoover. He proposed the New Deal but would vaguely go into detail because he didn’t need to.
● The people wanted a change from Hoover and he was the perfect answer.
