Birds

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not

much better than they? Matthew 6:26

there's no other way to say it. I don't know if I wish I were a bird. There are some things birds can do that we cannot do. Sure, we can fly into the air & etc. but it has its faults. We have to construct airplanes to do this & at a great cost.

For the time though, think of how many birds there are in the world & all kinds of them. It is no wonder Jesus used them for a teaching example. Their needs are taken care of & they do not worry about tomorrow, like we do. Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they? Philippians 4:6

It all came to me one morning in one of the Warrenton parking lots. I had no sooner pulled up & was about to get out of my car that I noticed a sparrow lit & was soon walking about seeing if someone had left behind a crust of bread. I wondered where he/she had come from & what hiding place concealed his/her nest. I as-sumed he/she 'shopped' often at all the local McDon-alds.

Have you ever heard someone use the term 'bird brain', sure you have. Birds are in comparison to us, very small & do have a tiny brain. The brain birds have

is just right & according to avian studies puts them on a reasonable scale of intelligence. Birds can see better & learn at a rapid pace to know where to search for food & where the best & safe & comfortable housing can be found.

The hymn ALL THINGS BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.

Birds are mentioned in at least 93 places in the Bible.

It is unfortunate in our modern society we overlook the appreciation of the one creature made by God. In our daily rush, we do not have the time to study & observe the many kinds & colors of the birds flying above us & sometimes impede our way in the world. Many wise people have advised us to stop & 'smell the roses' & also to watch the birds because we could learn more about life from them.

As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heav-en being torn open & the Spirit descending on him like a dove. Mark 1:10

On the wings of a snow white dove. He sends his pure sweet love. A sign from above. On the wings of a dove. When troubles surround us, when evils come. The body grows weak, the spirit grows numb. When these things beset us ,he doesn't forget us. He sends down his love on the wings of a dove. (Ferlin Husky, circa 1984)

Jesus to his disciples Mark 6:31 "Come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while." -,

Earlier in the history of Israel – when the temple was dedicated – the Lord appeared to Solomon at night and said:

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble them-selves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place."

God is moved by the ______________________ of his people!

• First, he calls them to ___________________ themselves.

• Second, he tells them to "pray and __________________ his face." (vs. 14)

• Third, he tells them to "____________________ from their wicked ways" (vs. 14).

People talk about being prepared for a crisis – financially, with adequate food, all these ma-terial things.

What is most important is ________________________ preparedness.

Back to 2 Chronicles 20

1. The people of Judah surrendered themselves completely to ____________________ so that they wouldn't have to surrender to their ________________________.

2. When facing things that seem overwhelming realize, often it's not God _______________ our problem; he enables us to _______________ our problems & withstand what is thrown against us.

Sometimes we pray, "God, just remove this problem." And God is saying; I'm __________ you in the problem, I'm going with you into the battle.

And in doing so – we witness the power of God!

1. When we look at our Lord Jesus, and the limits he accepted in taking on a human body,

there were times when he could have been overwhelmed – but – he would say to his dis-ciples, "come away with me. Let us go alone to a quiet place and rest for a while." Mark 6:31 Discuss the limitations Jesus accepted coming to earth and the assistance His course of action bring.

2. Discuss the implications on being overwhelmed from the following passage 2 Chronicles 7:14"If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place."

3. Discuss the underlying requirement needed to fulfill the following. 2 Chronicles 20:16-17 NKJV 16 Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the As-cent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. 17 You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you."
