Summertime, at least in my house, means changing of our normal
routines. With school out, we don’t have to get up so early in the mornings. We
no longer have the regular Monday through Friday rhythm. We don’t have the
dance classes and sports practices to attend. Even here at the church, my load of
meetings drops sharply once school ends and summer begins. Our normal
routines go out the window when summer hits.
At first, it’s nice. We’re able to sleep in a bit later every morning. We are
free to do things we have put off for lack of time to get them done. We spend
more time together as a family.
Summer also means travel. Kids off to summer camps. Family vacations. Visiting family
that live far away. All fun things, but all things that take us out of our normal routines.
By this point in the summer though, our lack of routines is really starting to show. What
was first fun and a nice break starts to wear on us, and we get out of sorts. Routine things that
need to be done start to get put off until they pile up. The lack of structure that we so enjoyed
early on begins to create confusion, boredom, frustration, and annoyance with one another. We
start to suffer from what I call, “Too much togetherness time.” Spending all day with the same few
people has started to wear on us, and the bickering and fighting ramp up.
In other words, we are all ready for school to start again! We are creatures of habit. We like
our routines. Some of our routine things we don’t much enjoy – like getting up for school on
time, doing homework and housework. However, there are some routines that also feed our souls
and give us life. Like praying every day at the start of each day. Attending church together every
week. Reading daily devotionals and spending time meditating on them and praying – allowing
God to speak to us every day.
A few days ago, I realized I had been neglecting my morning devotional and prayer time for
several weeks in a row. That explains why I was losing my patience so quickly, and why I was
feeling less connected to God. I’m back at it now, and I am feeling so much more grounded and
peaceful.
I’m looking forward to starting up our fall routines again, both at church and at home. I
hope and pray that you will get back into your routines, and join me in daily prayer, and
attending church every Sunday, and I pray that you too will feel God’s peace.

It’s Back!! The hands-on Mission Project
NUMANA is set for Sunday, September 22nd.
This worthwhile mission was such a huge success
last year that we are excited to bring it back! Our
goal is, once again, $5,000 which gives us the
opportunity to package 16,666 meals for the
hungry. We will have sign-up sheets for volunteers. We will need 85-100
workers and there will be many ways for you to make monetary
donations towards the project, beginning with our “Kick-Off
Fundraiser” on Wednesday, August 7th at Scramble meal. mark your
calendars for the afternoon of Sunday, September 22.
Did you know that the audio/video equipment in the Family Life Center is over 25 years old? How can
that be? The FLC is only 17 years old!!
When the FLC was built in 2002, part of the financial campaign was for updating the audio/visual in the
Sanctuary. The A/V equipment from the sanctuary was moved to the FLC at that time – therefore it is now
25 years old.
It is time to update the FLC audio/visual equipment. The picture on the screens is blurry, and the colors
faded. The equipment doesn’t work well with new technology – like the flat-screen, HDTVs we use in our
homes now.
We will be starting a financial campaign in September to raise at least $35,000 to upgrade our more than 25
year old A/V equipment. This will be in conjunction with our annual budget campaign. We ask you to
prayerfully consider and pledge for both the Yearly Budget and the Technology Updates!
Be looking for more information coming soon!

Thank you to the Cooking with Love Ministry Team for the cookies and the church family for keeping me in
your prayers. Thank you, Dale Cramer
Many thanks to the “Cooking with Love” group for providing us with a delicious dessert. We certainly enjoyed
it. This was brought to us after the passing of my mom. It reminded me of all the community projects of cooking
that mom did for her small church in Chanute. Thanks, Jane Crawshaw
Team Larned would like to thank you for allowing us to spend the night in your church during Bike Across
Kansas. It was so nice to have our team staying all together. We appreciate your help and thoughtfulness. It was
wonderful to have hot showers! We made many memories on our journey and staying in your church was one of
them! Thanks again, Team Larned
You never know who you might be touching with your kindness and friendship. My oldest daughter, Brenna
was an instrumental part of the first Praise Team at our church. She sang with the group all through High
School and in the summers during college. She didn’t care that she was the only youth in the group. She loved
Jesus, she loved to sing and she loved the other people in the group. She would listen to the young moms as
they talked about their children, their homes and their busy lives. She quietly observed them -- how they were
raising their families, how they spoke of their spouses and how they shared their God-given talents with their
church. These adults made a lasting impression on her life and even though there was a huge age difference, they
became her dear friends.
This past week, one of these Praise Team members and her family went to Ohio for the National Twirling
Competition, which was only an hour from Brenna – and guess what happened? They got to meet up! Brenna
and her husband were able to watch some of the twirling competition and they shared a meal together. Brenna
was able to show love and support for this young girl, just as her mother had done for her all of those years
before. It was incredibly moving for me that this sweet family would take the time to bring a piece of “home”
to my girl in Ohio. I was completely caught off guard by my emotions and how deeply it affected me. I still
get a lump in my throat every time I think about it.
Friendships made at church are often times the deepest, most rewarding relationships you will ever find. Age
doesn’t matter. Social interests don’t matter. It doesn’t even matter if you prefer K-State over KU. What really
matters is that we all love Jesus, and therefore we are joined in Christian love. There is no stronger bond.
May we all continue to be true examples of Christ as we love and support one another in all that we do.
