Sandra: And this is Sandra Champlain and we would like to welcome you to our show today.

Travis: Hello Sandra.

Sandra: Travis, how are you?

Travis: I‟m wonderful, how are you today? What‟s going on.

Sandra: Doing pretty good, it‟s pouring rain where I am, and I‟m wondering if you got your walk in

today.

Travis: Yes, I did. It‟s so hot here it‟s a little over a hundred degrees. So, I‟ve been going to the mall to

walk instead of walking on the trails. We‟ve got a lot of great green built trails and thing that we can

walk. Actually, a 110 miles of green built trails which basically this is a plant community, and so we

have paved sidewalks that go through the woods and so it‟s really incredible walking. But it is just so

hot that if I don‟t start early in the morning, I‟ll go out to the mall and walk to the mall.

Sandra: Well, I‟m proud of you. One of the special delights I have for this call is our guest speaker. I

am someone who is as you know who is as you know, battled weight and food and things like that. And

I thought of a real special guest today. And just a little preview on who he is for me, just maybe 3 and

half years ago someone had invited me to try some new nutritional products and I was like, „Ah, I‟m not

really interested and whatever, new kind of weight loss. Although I did purchase the products, what I

didn‟t expect was I mean any product will work if you use it, right? But who I met 3 and half years ago is

our guest today and he is a fellow named Mike Page. And Mike was able to coach me as my friend and

really cared about me. And I used the system that he created along with these products. And in the

course of I think it was about 9 months, I not only lost 55 pounds, I shed whole bunch of body fat. But

they had a weight lost competition it was actually a body transformation contest.

So really it wasn‟t about the number, it was before and after. So I won this worldwide competition. I got

$3,500 in cash. I got a full Hollywood make over and it was a big part due to the program that Mike

Page created. And I fell out of touch with him for a while and he knew my dad died and I gain back

much of the weight that I have lost. And so sitting here in, you know we always try to come up with

really great guests for our listeners. And I thought for myself and for other business owners. To be

successful is not just financial, it‟s not just having time freedom, it is having the physical well being to be

who we are meant to be in the world.

Travis: Yeah, it‟s a sports competition right?

Sandra: Yeah, this person I know made a difference for me and I‟m actually counting on him to do it

again and not just for me but for our listeners. And who Mike Page is, he is someone who has logged

over 50,000 hours of personal training with people, working with more than 4,000 clients. He‟s got a

book out called the “Page Cycle Diet”, and he also has a second book now out which is a cookbook

using his methodology. His programs are now being used by people in 32 countries. And he is

someone who is genuine, he is giving, he is always about making a difference with others. And I do

believe he knows something that is above and beyond what most of us do that it takes to get our bodies

into peak performance. So all that being said I would just like to just really give a warm welcome to

Mike Page and thank you for being in our show today.

Mike: Thank you Sandra, I remember that day pretty well when you won that contest that was really an

amazing day, so that was an awesome time in my life.

Sandra: Yeah, thanks. We‟ll make a huge difference and I need another shot in the arms so can I

count on you for that?

Mike: Yes, you can.

Sandra: Yeah, I know it‟s a human thing that we all go through. So, it‟s never too late.

Travis: One thing I want to point out is that did more than just impact your physical appearance and

overall health. It impacted you so many other ways in your life also which I think is important to put in to

the mix there, it inspired you to go out and do other things that you hadn‟t been dealing with. And so I

think that is the important part of the back story of what you are talking about, and one of the additional

reasons why it‟s near dear to your heart, right?

Sandra: Right. We‟ll the confidence level, when my body was strong, my brain was strong. And I could

speak from a more confident place than I did when I was heavier I didn‟t feel good about myself. So,

yeah I took on a lot of great things, and have some new relationships and the whole heck a lot more fun

because I felt better.

Travis: Right, by the way I wanted to say welcome to the show also Mike. I didn‟t have the chance to

say that. I want to talk about the variety things, not just, I do want to talk about your entire system

because it‟s a different angle but the listeners are business owners. And so we want to talk about any

word that works for you. We want to talk about some of your failures in business, some of your

discoveries. Because I think a lot of times, people look at business owners and they think we have it all

together and we don‟t make mistakes and that‟s normally the case. Every time, I‟m running to an expert

and I get a chance to talk with a deeper level. It just verifies that experts are normal people that have

felt practically everything that you can fell out along the way and then learn from it. Does that make

sense?

Mike: I know all about that. I could spend the next 2 hours telling you all the failures that I‟ve been.

Travis: But that‟s where you grow, right? And so the business, you‟ve been in this health thing for quite

a long time and you‟ve been very successful on many levels. Can you start of by telling us about what‟s

different of most people think of a diet, and I think to lose weight and you are more focused on a

lifestyle change, right?

Mike: Yeah, no doubt about it. Because as I trained all these people and I‟ve done over 50,000

appointments with, and literally worked with. I‟d say at least 15, 000 people on a pretty personal basis

over for the last 20 years. And most of the things that I saw, one was that when I give somebody a

program in the past, and I was so strict I would take him from eating McDonald‟s 5x a week, to eating

like a body builder that only a very small percentage of people could actually achieve that and do it

because that was such a big jump for them. But then the people that did do that a lot of times get their

success upfront and for that I would have people spend $70,000 with me and not look any different

than when they started. They were in a lot better shape but they didn‟t look different. Then I had the

people that would be in the most amazing shape, better shape, look better than they have ever looked

in their lives but then if they quit training with me for whatever reason, I see them 3 months, 6 months

later and they looked as bad or worst than when they started because they couldn‟t maintain that

lifestyle forever. So, that was even the case with myself, when I ate food that I should to look the way I

wanted but I was miserable a lot of times. My ex wife still hates me today because of me being so

mean to her about food. Because anytime anybody ate things I couldn‟t eat, it was so hard for me that I

was mean to them. But then when I ate those foods that I loved, then I didn‟t look the way I wanted, and

then I was mad at them because I felt like it was their fault for eating that food around me and I didn‟t

have the will power to stay away from it. That was like I was in this like a catch 22 my entire life.

Travis: Yeah, it‟s a vicious cycle right?

Mike: Yeah, and so then that‟s how the Page Cycle Diet came about was that I started to play around

with some things and determined, how could I eat foods that I love and eat the way I want, but still look

the way I wanted. The way I kind of developed this was to be able to have more freedom and flexibility

around the weekend and be stricter in the week and that was something that I could live with. Then I

found that other people could live with it as well. So, then I decided to share that with as many people

that I possibly could.

Travis: Is that how the book developed? Or the system you developed this system?

Mike: Yeah, I mean the way that the system when I was working with the company that Sandra was

with, they started to have some financial issues and problems because they were getting a lot of return

orders because people, the promise that they were trying to, the promise they were selling the products

of really didn‟t work especially long term, and so, when they sold out to another company I went to the

CEO and said “Look I can solve your problem.” And I went to him and basically he agreed to pay me to

put the program together. They promise me a lot of other things which lead to our conversation with the

business side of it, when we get to that, I developed that. That company went from $400,000 in sales a

month to over $3,000,000 and I got a very, very small amount to do that. I did that several times

because I didn‟t learn the first time, and I was actually speaking on stage somewhere and a guy

approached me and said, “Look I think you really ought to write a book, you‟re telling me some things

which I have never heard about, I‟ve been around weight loss for a long time,” and he introduced me to

a lady who had taken 25 other authors with best seller status and we started writing it and basically put

it together to protect myself and be able to share it in a much larger format based on how I wanted it to

be shared, not another company taking my program and utilizing it.

Travis: And so is the business, or the book driving business for you?

Mike: Yeah, no doubt about it. It‟s interesting. You know, if you‟re an expert on a field, it‟s great to write

a book. Whatever that expertise is because it‟s so easy to publish now, virtually it‟s free and literally

they handle every single thing from you. Buy the books directly from, you know, you don‟t have to buy a

bunch of books and stock them and print on them, and it‟s a very simple and easy process but it‟s

interesting how much different people view you and see you. My experience is the same to put it in

paper.

Travis: Right, right. It brings a higher level of credibility to you and to what you‟re doing. Also, it starts

attracting those ideal clients to you rather than traditional marketing seeks out clients and the reverse

happens here they start seeking you out. Has that been your experience also?

Mike: Yeah, no doubt about it. Social Media is so huge when people look at you and they see that

you‟re an author and it automatically gives you credibility. People definitely seek you out rather than

you‟re chasing everybody down. People are coming to you.

Travis: So, what were the other things that we were talking about related to business is the

overwhelming business owners deal with so many people are so busy or so many business owners are

so busy in the business actually working in the business that they don‟t have the time. A lot of times

they don‟t even have the skill to handle the accounting part of things. Maybe the marketing part of

things, the insurance, all of the things, the attorneys, and so not dealing with those issues has brought

you incredible levels of heartache early on in your business and taught you what you really needed to

protect your intellectual property, right?

Mike: No doubt about it.

Travis: Can you tell us about that? Can you tell us a little bit of how that unfolded and what you learned

from it.

Mike: Well, probably the first go around to that I actually got out of fitness for about 3 and a half years

or so because I got really frustrated with training clients and felt like they were spending so much

money and they weren‟t getting the results. They wouldn‟t do the nutrition, and so I got out of that and I

got into the high rise condo industry. What I do is I start to go out and find, I would find the developers

that needed pre sales for his hi rise condo and I would bring in the development group and they‟d buy

30%, 40%, 50% of the units all in individual names and it was about $6,000,000 worth of commissions

that I was suppose to receive and I didn‟t know much of that industry. I didn‟t know the ins and the outs,

and so, when the deals didn‟t get through and didn‟t funded, I didn‟t get paid. So I got paid 100

thousand dollars of 6 million dollars because they didn‟t get paid well. I then learned because I learned

more about the industry that the investment group actually got money upfront from the clients even if

the deal didn‟t fund. They were making millions and millions of dollars if I had taken the time to learn

that industry and knew more about it I would have walked away with half of what I should have. So I

walked away with 100 thousand instead of 6 million, and so then I look at my fitness part of it. I went to,

I was desperate, I just came off from that, and I just got back into training and I didn‟t have the money

and I was desperate so the first time I sat down with the company to negotiate, we put a program

together we did it on an hourly basis. It‟s probably the best investment in the history of the planet

because they make millions of dollars every month out of what I put together with a few thousand bucks

over a month. So, I went through that. I did it several different times trying kind of think it would turnout

different and tried to do some different things and finally when I was approached about writing a book, I

was in control of the situation and in control of my business rather than having to wait on, or rely on

other people to do it for me, or make me money. It was the best decision I ever made. I just released a

book in November of 2011 and my life has changed so dramatically in just a short period of time

because I finally took control. Now, it‟s up to me rather than someone else.

Travis: Well, you know it‟s funny. Whenever you put yourself in a situations to where your success is

based on other people well you‟re kind of in the mercy of them. Whereas when you reverse it, I guess

the best analogy is instead of the tail wagging the dog, the dog wags the tail. So, if you‟re not careful I

know one of the things you kind of crossed over there is you came in and made a big difference for

several companies and they ultimately took your intellectual property, made millions of dollars and

really you didn‟t get to participate hardly in any of that success and so that was the perpetual cycle that

happened over and over again. Until, you decided to step out and clearly defined yourself as the expert

and make yourself the brand, right?

Mike: Yeah, no doubt about it. Before when I was going to companies I was almost in the position of

desperation, because I really, I mean for 3 years I put everything I had into developing my program and

I take it to these companies and they‟re still making millions and millions of dollars every day off of it. If I

was approached by a company today, I would said “Look I need a percentage of your increase sales for

a period of 5 years or whatever the number is. But I would have the power to do that now because I

don‟t need them. If anything, they need me to help save them. But they don‟t need to save me because

I put myself in a different position.

Travis: Do you think even a simple, just a written agreement looking back in those situations where you

went in and set up critical things in their program. Do you think even if you didn‟t have the money for an

attorney, we know that you didn‟t, even if you just sat down and put it on paper the agreement would

that have given you any leverage looking back.

Mike: I definitely think so. More clearly defined terms rather than, “Oh, we‟ll do this and this conceptual

ideas.” It really concreted it down and say okay you‟re going to give me this and this and this and I want

it in writing and on paper would have made a huge difference. Even a week, or a month goes by and

nobody remembers what I‟ve actually said up front. So that definitely would have made a huge

difference.

Travis: Yeah, or the critical person that you trusted is 6 months later isn‟t there anymore, And so the

board or whoever the superior is that steps in, they don‟t know anything about the agreement, right?

Mike: Yeah. I mean it has definitely happened where you talked to one person but there really not the

decision maker, they‟re not the one that can actually say that, and when that person‟s gone and you go

there next tier up and they‟ll like whoa. They don‟t have the authority to make that agreement or to say

that and everything is gone.

Travis: Yeah. So now you talked about some other realizations that at one time you felt that you

needed to be capable of handling or wearing all the hats in the business. Then you made some, then

you come to a realization that you really don‟t really need to be the person that wears all of those, you

can either partner or hire or whatever. Can you tell us more about that? Can you talk about that?

Mike: Yeah, I mean years and years and years ago I have read emails revisited and it made so much

sense to me because I am so bad at so many things. But I didn‟t, it was like, I was so bad at it I couldn‟t

even recommend that to get it going so what happened is when that person approach me when I got off

stage speaking to me, “Look, you be the expert. You be you, you do what you do really well and we‟ll

handle everything else for you.” I was like, “Oh, my gosh, that sounded like an absolute dream to be

able do that.” That‟s kind of interesting and work out with him and it put me on that path, that mindset of

I‟m going to be the guy, I‟m going to do what I‟m good at and let other people do what they‟re good at.

So, when we went through the book, I wrote it but I had somebody else do the editing and somebody

else do the layout, the design, and all the things that they‟re really good at and that was interesting as

the project turned out perfect because I did what did well and other people did what they did well. It just

continued to expand beyond that into, I just brought out the cookbook, I didn‟t want to do the cookbook

but I had somebody I trusted and knew my system, knew my plan, knew what the recipes had to be, so

I allowed her to do all of that. We partnered on a project and she was able to make the money she

makes, I can make money, and I didn‟t have to do something I‟m not good at or didn‟t want to do. My

web design just each facet of what I do is now in the hands of experts, which allows me to just continue

doing what I‟m doing, because I get overwhelmed when I have to step out of what I do really well.

Travis: That‟s common. That‟s common with business owners. We feel that we need to know it all. At

one time, when I first started my business, I started to think that I need to know accounting, and I

needed to know legal matters, that I needed to know insurance, and it‟s so overwhelming it impacted

the quality of my life, and even the quality of my business because I was so busy being busy that I

wasn‟t focussing on the main thing which was interacting and bringing in more customers, which is

where I wanted to be anyway. So how long did it take for you to get the book written?

Mike: You know that‟s funny. I really wrote it about 10 days which sounds kind of crazy, but stayed up

day and night, I just wrote, wrote and wrote, and then it took me probably a couple of months to go

back through each chapter. Because it‟s funny, this lady, again, if I wouldn‟t have an expert, you need

to talk with references things like that because I was like, “Hey I‟m an expert, I don‟t need anybody‟s

expert opinion. That‟s one thing people love so much about my book is that I have all the research and

the science to back it up. Even if he didn‟t tell me what I didn‟t know but it solidified and made it more

credible. So we went through that, it was probably about a 3 month, maybe a 4 month process from the

time I started to the time I finished the book to get it done.

Travis: That‟s impressive. I spoke to people who have been working on it for 5 years.

Mike: I was in the position I knew, It was like, even if he didn‟t tell me that, It was like that was the

vision I wanted and so I held to that and it was like day and night and all I did was focus on getting that

thing done. That was like the beginning of my life of where I wanted it to be.

Travis: Right. Sandra I‟ve been dominating why don‟t you step up for a little while and talk, I don‟t want

to dominate the entire interview here.

Sandra: Oh, I have enjoyed listening though everything you guys have said is just so valuable. I think

from a business owner‟s perspective much like getting involved in a new relationship with a significant

other. We can be overwhelmed in that infatuation stage. I mean you got a big company that wants your

knowledge and makes a big deal out of you. How easy it is to just fall for that and be caught up in the

emotion of that feel good and not be aware that, “Okay I need something signed here.” I got to follow

through I mean I find myself getting caught up in those emotional ties. But it was just a real good

conversation that you guys had about getting things in paper, documenting it, covering yourself, and

covering your intellectual property. So I thank you for that conversation.

Travis: Even if it‟s not legal speech, right? Just basic I‟ll do this, you do that, and you owe me this.

Sandra: Yeah, I think as human beings were trusting when people say we‟ll do this and you trust that

they will and it doesn‟t always happen, and it doesn‟t mean you have to be a person that doesn‟t trust

anymore. It just means you just have to cover yourself and I really like how Mike has created himself as

the expert, and I can tell you from meeting him and working with him, and he‟s been just so generous

that giving advice and never asking a penny for it. That‟s the type of human being he is, and I know

from Mike‟s website that he has a goal to reach 10 million people to realize their dreams of living longer

and having healthier lives. I know for myself, if I do something and I believe in it I will share it with

everybody. That‟s the type of person I am. So, you can‟t pay me to talk about a product, or book, or

service but if it works for me, I will tell the world. So, Mike I totally support you in getting your message

out, and I‟m wondering because I like to declare that today is the first day of the rest of my life and I

want to be one of your 10 million people. Do you have some strategies and suggestions, health wise, to

get me and our listeners started, and I fully intend when were done with this to order your book, so I

know much more than you‟re talking about, but are there any strategies and tips that we can get started

with right away while we‟re waiting for the book to come in the mail.

Mike: I think the basis of everything is education, because I think so many people sure want to lose 50

pounds, and get in better shape, and feel better. They go to a place and get a canned program, and

they don‟t know why they‟re doing what they‟re doing. They just like “Oh my friend did it and they got

great results.” They don‟t really understand what‟s happening and why the body is reacting the way it is

and so for me, I wrote the book in the format I‟m talking directly to my clients and the person I‟m trying

to educate and explain step by step what they‟re going to do, not only give them a program instructor

as people need that but also give them the basis and the background information. So that they

understand and why they‟re giving up their favourite food at 8‟ o clock at night rather than just someone

telling them not to do it. I think when you consciously go “Well, I‟m not going to make that choice

because I know what that‟s going to do to my body.” To me that‟s a lot stronger than somebody just

being told they can‟t have it and they don‟t understand it and why they are doing it, and so, to me that‟s

the first step, and I tell everybody when clients used to come to me, I tell them I can get you the best

shape of your life but what you look like is 100% of you. What I meant by that is when you come to the

gym for 3 hours a week, I can work you to death, I can get you in great physical shape, but if you want

to look different, you will have to follow my nutritional plan that I put together. Well now I can‟t obviously

say that but I can tell people is, I guarantee you that you‟ll know more 99% of the people walking

around in planet earth about nutrition and about how food affects the body after reading my book, and

before you read it, and to me that‟s the greatest thing, So that‟s the first thing is education and knowing

what to do. The second part of that, and I talk a lot about this in my book is changing your relationship

with food. It‟s really interesting when you start to delve into that because that‟s why so many people are

resistant to dieting. It seems terrible, it‟s not that they can‟t give up the food; it‟s that they can‟t give up

what the food is replacing in their life emotionally. There‟s is no bigger part to this whole puzzle than

changing your relationship with food. Because that‟s the only way you‟re going to keep weight off long

term. I had my relationship with food but it wasn‟t a good one. For 20 years I was miserable and now

I‟m such in a better place but it‟s funny because I just recently, last few years I‟ve kind of stayed up in a

place where I‟m comfortable, and I‟m happy, and then I‟m part of a 90 day health challenge, I just set a

big goal to become, to take my nutrition to a whole new level and almost like prepare for a body

building contest. I‟m not going to compete but I want to feel how I can take my body just for a challenge

for me. It‟s funny because I have to take my relationship with food into a whole new level and so I have

to give up the entertainment factor with my girlfriend, and my kids. All the different things that you just

don‟t realize until you start really getting in to it. So those are the two biggest things and then just be

active, I mean exercise if you can bottle it and sell it, it would be the number 1 supplement in the entire

world because of the size of its benefits, but it will not make you thin, it will not make you lose weight.

Because just the amount of calories that you have to burn. To do it which doesn‟t mean that you

shouldn‟t do it, just stay active and you don‟t have to be a hardcore workout person if that‟s not what

your goals are. If your goals are to look like a body builder you‟re going to have to be hardcore. But if

you just want to feel good, and be healthy you just need to be active on a daily basis.

Sandra: And there‟s a way to eat too. No I‟m just thinking there‟s a way to eat to, I‟m sure, you

discussed this in your book that, look, I hate to be hungry right? I‟m also somebody that never thought

I‟d put the weight back on after I won that contest because I went from several years I thought I‟ve got it

handled now but then like you say the emotional thing, I mean my dad died and needing comfort was

such an auto pilot thing in my brain that was screaming for the chocolate bar. So it felt like it was out of

my control, and so I see the value of really having that conversation about food and coming to grips

with that. But also the fact that there‟s a way to eat and you can shed more light on this where the

hunger isn‟t there yet the body is in premium fat burning mode, right?

Mike: Yeah, I mean the first cycle in my program is called extreme burning there‟s what we call protein

healthy fat days. When you‟re primarily eating, you‟re depleting all the carbohydrates in your system

that your body has no choice but to burn fat and you‟re supplying your body with protein and healthy fat

which keeps your body in that fat burning mode and support your lean muscle tissue so that you don‟t

lose muscle, and on those days you can pretty much eat as much protein as you want. So, instead of

having a snack of a granola bar and an apple, you have cream cheese and some turkey. One is going

to make the cause and gain weight, the other is going to cause you to keep your body in the fat burning

mode and lose weight and still not be hungry and in the end of the day a lot of people don‟t like to be

hungry.

Sandra: No.

Mike: it‟s a psychological thing. Because when I‟m hungry what I think about is my body is burning fat.

When other people are hungry it‟s their going to a whole different place mentality wise. So, what

chances is again? It‟s all about changing that relationship with food. You don‟t have to be hungry but

you don‟t also have to make poor choices because you are hungry. If you just body go into its fat

reserves all your hunger will subside but people won‟t do that because that negative thought process of

being hungry is going to make them take action immediately.

Sandra: Gotcha. Now how does your brain feel during this? Is there more increased energy? Is there

more clarity in thinking? Do you jump out of bed in the morning? Or is it a painful process?

Mike: The only tough time people have is the first 2 days on the extreme burn cycle. Not everybody but

some people will have a tough time with their energy levels because their body hasn‟t become efficient

in burning fat yet. Our body is supposed to burn fat that‟s how they‟re designed but we eat so many

carbohydrates and eat so continuously that it never, it‟s like it forgets to do that process, and so, but

most people will find that they feel like “Oh my gosh, that‟s so better than I have in years because their

body is burning that fuel source that there is a consistent study that when you eat a lot of carbohydrates

your blood sugars go up and they go way down and it‟s like you‟re in this roller coaster ride all day long,

and when you‟re down that‟s when you crave for the wrong foods but if you eat the right way your body

is more consistent your energy levels is very consistent to that time and you just feel better and you

don‟t have the cravings.

Sandra: Well, I think a lot of us business owners you need to get this much productivity in the day and

so to feel our best, thinking our best to not be preoccupied with like I‟ve got to munch on something

would really serve us all.

Mike: Yeah. There‟s no doubt about it. As you feel better, I know for me, if I don‟t take care of my

physical body and I get tired that‟s the worst thing in the world for me because I lose all motivation and

pretty soon taking a nap or laying in the couch is more important than getting done what I need to get

done, and it usually revolves around just taking care of my body, getting the right foods in me, exercise,

sleep, all those things makes such a difference. Primarily the biggest premise in life that really propelled

me, when I first started training I was really shy, had a really hard time talking to people, we had no

uniforms, nobody to, nobody knew we were trainers that was before training was a big thing. Its pain

and pleasure with Tony Robbins. that principle typically when we‟re not taking care of ourselves were

doing something else for other people were actually we‟ll be more to avoid pain than gain pleasure so

it‟s working on yourself and exercising, and eating right, and those sort of things is painful in your brain?

Then you‟ll be more, you‟ll be have a broken glass to help friends because that brings you pleasure,

and so when you look at everything. I know there are certain things that I hate to do and I just got to

create more pain to doing them or to not doing them than to doing them. Because if I don‟t do them it‟s

going to have long term negative effects on me, and so I know a lot of people really don‟t like our side. I

mean you walk into the gym and it‟s overwhelming. You see all these machines and thin people and if

you‟re out of shape and heavier than you liked to be it‟s painful. But you got to create more pain to not

doing it than doing it.

Sandra: How do you do that? Because when you said, it‟s like “Oh yeah, that‟s me.” I mean I‟m quick to

answer the phone and give somebody advice, coaching on something going on but then it actually

occurs to me, it‟s torture to think on putting on sneakers just to go out for a walk. Now it‟s crazy

because once I‟m outside you know it‟s all pleasure. There‟s not an ounce of pain there so this battle

goes in my head, but how could you create more pain about not doing it? Like is there any example?

Mike: Well there‟s two things that I‟ve done gym and Tony Robbins has changed my life it was big, big

things that one is build a list. Write down all the things that not taking care of your body walking and

doing all those things cause you to do every day. It‟s going to cause you into the future so one other

thing that you‟re going to do is sit on a rocking chair and rock away the years and the time and when

you start thinking about compounding poor health choices and not taking care of yourself and you

compound that into the future where are you going to be? That‟s one of the most painful things to me

and one of the driving motivators for me for business is I don‟t want to be a greeter at Wal-Mart when

I‟m 75. I mean it‟s so painful to me, and I keep that in the forefront of my mind and it makes me get up

early and do a lot of things that I don‟t enjoy doing business wise to get myself where I want and I‟m not

in that place. I always think when you‟re 75 you‟re sitting in a beach somewhere. You got this great

home, everything‟s paid for, you have no stress, and you can really live and do the things you enjoy to

do. For me it would seem to work on my terms.

Sandra: I love that, and I‟m going to take that on afterwards this conversation to, because it‟s so easy

to live in the present moment just thinking about now, and it feels so good to go to McDonalds‟ and get

a chocolate shake or something but to relate looking down the road, those compounding effects, and

I‟m sure you‟ve seen that movie “Super Size Me.”

Mike: Yeah.

Sandra: Yeah. I mean things like that is, could be, what the impacts of having some of those

behaviours is just incredibly poor health and poor health fast. So, I like that.

Mike: One of the things, I tried to, most of us eat bad food is because it makes us feel good. It gives us

immediate gratification and it makes you feel good, but the problem is that long term it makes you feel

horrible, and it makes you feel really bad about yourself because when you don‟t feel good, and you

don‟t look good, and you‟re not comfortable in your own skin, I don‟t care if you‟re driving a million

dollars sports car, when you get out of it, you don‟t feel so cool. You don‟t feel so good. I always tell

people, the only thing that you take with you everywhere you go is your body, and if you feel great

about yourself, guarantee that it will change your business and your model. It will just change

everything in your life when you feel good about yourself. It change your relationships, It changes your

demeanour, and just the energy when people look at you, what they see, and that‟s why I‟m so

passionate about helping people change the way they look. Health comes when it was late to do the

right thing health comes. But when you change how you feel about yourself from the inside it just

manifests throughout your entire world. That‟s what drives me and gives me with so much passion.

Sandra: Mike how did you get involved in the health world anyways?

Mike: You know I was an athlete and my whole life, even when I was 15, I got hit by a car on the

sidewalk broke my leg in half in 3 places. That‟s kind of the first thing that happened, when I was a

senior at high school, I broke my finger and I had to go to physical therapy and that was first time I

thought, because it was the only thing that I ever thought doing before that was being a professional

athlete. Nothing else was even a possibility. And then that was pretty cool, help people get better with

their injuries. I went to the University of Utah and they teach basic, at that time Physical Therapy was

the hottest degree in town and out of all the applicants they took 24 kids and they all had 4 0s and

when I got to the University of Utah, I mean you have a class of 550 people your TA‟s Japanese

doesn‟t even speak English and so you‟re suppose to learn that I was so damn ticked off, I was like “I‟m

not taking this class source and it may have somebody I can‟t even understand. So then I went in and

got my degree in Exercise Sports Science and I‟m so glad that I did it. That was such a better fit for me

and I was always interested in body building from the age of 10, 11, or 12 years old and just fascinated

by people like Conan the Barbarian and just big muscles and staying in shape, and so, It‟s something

that I‟m really have always been passionate about and have an interest in.

Sandra: Awesome! What we certainly want to pass your information to all our listeners. But if people

were to take one action after listening to this, would there be one action that you would give people to

do to just step in the right direction for their health?

Mike: I mean as far as their health goes is it‟s learn about food. I mean, I hate to push myself but really

if you just push one action. If you just read the book like you said you‟d have more information than

most people ever have, because we‟re telling ourselves with reading. Bottom line, our country is so

overweight and if we took, if we look at body fat we would be in worse shape than we actually than we

think we are. I mean 66% of all adults are considered overweight but if we did that as far as body fat

percentage goes the numbers are high it would be more like 90% and it‟s all because of the food we‟re

eating and what the food does for us. I mean it‟s so easy to make the better choice if you had the

knowledge to do it and still enjoy food as much. So that‟s probably the number one thing that I would

tell people.

Travis: So after reading the book, you would have a clear understanding what you should and what

you shouldn‟t?

Mike: Oh yeah. I mean that‟s exactly what you should be doing and if you decide to do the program.

The program is laid out. There is a shopping list where you go and you buy those foods. What I‟ve done

is, because I use to write people these nutritional plans, well it drove me crazy because each time they

didn‟t like a particular food, well then what, well now what I hear they just use categories it‟s like here‟s

50 different types of protein and you go to storage and use what you like. Here‟s the list of your of all

your vegetables and different things you should be eating. You choose what you want because you

know what you like, so it makes sense and very simple and easy for people.

Sandra: And how do people order your book and get more information about you?

Mike: If you go to www.pagecyclediet.com that‟s my website and that‟s got a bookstore on there for the

regular Page Cycle Diet book and the cookbook. The cookbook has been a great addition because a lot

of times people don‟t understand like how to make a meal without straying off the program and so it‟s

giving people these recipes and ideas and things that they can do. In there, there‟s also a blog that

every single day I coach people on a 90 day health challenge, and not have people spend $70,000 look

me over 10 years and not look any different than the day they started or spend 90 days of focussed

effort and completely change their health and their physical appearance, and so I coach every single

day. I coach an article and it falls along with my diet, what day you‟re on, what you should be doing,

and more articles on education, motivational videos to help keep you more motivated. So that‟s now on

Mike: Yeah if people can email me, it‟s funny, people are like, it‟s like they‟ll ask a question and it‟s

something I can‟t really explain writing it. It‟s hard. So, I just give them my phone number and people

are like, “My gosh, you really gave me your phone number.” People call me all the time and I walk them

through it. Walk them through things. Because we all need a coach in life, in this arena it‟s even more

confusing every time you read something they are contradictory because people are always trying to

sell their product and not giving people the truth, and so, it‟s a bit confusing.

Sandra: Well, especially in the world of weight loss and exercise, I mean there are zillions of people

trying to sell you on something.

Mike: No doubt about it. How do you know who is good or not?

Travis: Also I want to interject what will do is at TravisandSandra.com we‟ll put your links just below.

We‟ll put the podcast on that‟s where all the podcasts are of the show, and what will do is we‟ll put all

your links there and so people can go straight to your site, or to your fan page if that‟s ok with you Mike.

Mike: Yeah, That would be awesome. Yeah, definitely look around the site, there‟s a lot of information

on there as far as the supplement that I use with my programs. I feel those are very important to have

to help people. When your bodies inefficient at burning fat you got to do some things to make it efficient

at burning fat, and supplements are a big part of that, supplements are not a wonder drug you can‟t just

take them and not change your eating. But if you can‟t combine it with the proper eating and the

supplements and some exercise you can change your life at a very short period of time.

Travis: Right. Mike we have about 6, 7, or 8 minutes, then Sandra if you don‟t mind; there‟s one other

thing we‟ve talked about before we started this show. That I think is an important lesson geared

towards business. So, if you don‟t mind I have a question unless there‟s something.

Sandra: No, I‟ve got nothing. I appreciate Mike being here.

Travis: Alright. So, something you and I talked about it Mike is you went through several trials and

tribulations again of making mistakes and realizing how serious these mistakes were is you talked

about a couple of things that you‟d went through to made the mistake of not building a list of not having

access to a loyal following people that already know and like you. Can you tell us more about that?

Mike: Yeah. Well it was interesting when I first got approached on writing the book. Somebody saw me

speak and came up to me and said “Look you really should write a book, and it sounded like a great

idea to me and the idea was to make it a best seller on Amazon. At one point, I was the top 100 fitness

books for a period of time and we pushed everybody to buy the book off of Amazon and still a lot of

people because they don‟t know there‟s another option or anything else. At this point, they still go to

Amazon and purchase the book and so that was in November. So I sold 600,000 books since then and

99% of them have bought off Amazon which does not give you any information on whose buying your

books, so I have no idea, I mean I know where they came from because I was involved in network

marketing company. I was doing lot of calls on how to make the book work with those people that went

spoken in front of thousands of people and when the offer began. I know where they came from but I

don‟t know who they are so I have no way to turn around and continue to market them and build my

brand, and actually last 5 weeks ago. I was approached by some people and again do what they do

really well, which is build lists, build websites, capture people‟s information and they put that all together

and a co creation of a business model. They got to get things out of it and now we‟ve captured a lead

so if I had a new product or a special running I can now turn that out and send a quick email out and

give it to everybody. Also, Facebook started doing that probably in January; no actually February

started the whole Facebook Page Cycle Diet fan page. There‟s 1100 people on that now and every

time I send a post out I‟m sending to 1,100 people but when you start to looking at the trickling effect of

their friends and their friends it reaches almost half a million people.

Travis: Right.

Mike: When I send out a post and now I‟m really creating a following that no matter what happens with

anything else, I‟ve got the following of people that believe in me, trust me, and that‟s why I‟m so willing

and it‟s just my nature to help those people when they have a question because you‟re not bad. I mean

you look other authors, and people out there and they get big and they‟re not helping people on a daily

basis. They‟re just on Oprah on web shows and things like that which I‟d like to be on someday possibly

if it goes to that. But really I‟m more concerned about is helping people on the ground level.

Travis: Yeah, making a difference in people‟s lives, you know, one of the things that you can do that‟s

really popular is put an 800 number in your book with a personal message from you to where anybody

that picks up your book. Whether they read it in a bookstore, you can put it in a back cover or in a

preface, and so they can hear a personal message from you that also allows them to leave their name,

number, and email and you can manually put them in your database that way, and so it builds rapport

with them and you can take them straight from the book into your list.

Mike: There are a lot of people as I realize when I went on my speaking tour there was a lot of people

in different parts of the country that are not on Face book. They‟re not. They may not have a computer.

Travis: Right.

Mike: It seems interesting but there are a lot of those people out there.

Travis: Exactly, but the one thing that everybody has is they all have a telephone.

Mike: Yes they do.

Travis: And so most of them do, and so it‟s easy for them to pick up the telephone and just leave a

message. So, anyways well looks like we‟re getting to that time. Sandra, you want to close?

Sandra: Oh just a big thank you to you Mike for being here. For me it‟s just what I intended, I‟ve got the

shot in the arm to get healthy again and also to be able to share that with other people and the value of

that really starts from me and then go on to make our differences have the successes in our lives, and it

starts with ourselves so that we‟ve accomplished I feel great and I want to talk to you more about of
