The Environmental Forum’s Landmark Master Class is Beginning! Space is very limited—reserve your place today. This comprehensive training focuses on Marin’s natural landscapes and resources, and the perpetual challenges they face—from climate change, development, drought and human impact. The class’s single objective is to promote environmental stewardship, preparing nature’s advocates to defend today’s changing world. MASTER CLASS 42 An Exceptional Experience The Master Class is a remarkable series of classroom and fieldtrip sessions, led by notable experts in their fields. The only course in the county to offer a hands-on, comprehensive experience that includes high level advocacy training, it brings a small class (30 people max) together to absorb, engage, and get involved in the fascinating issues of climate, habitat, and natural ecosystems. During the 9 sessions, each student will select an exploratory project of special interest to complete. Some of these projects have inspired real change, such as the formation of MALT, the plastic bag ban, and the Marin Open Garden Project. Master Class students also gain: • A comprehensive understanding of the global issues of climate change, and how they affect our communities • A clear realization of the human impact on Marin’s ecosystems • Opportunities to interact with scientists, policy makers, environmental advocates, land use and transportation planners • Critical thinking skills • Training and coaching to communicate clearly and comfortably in a public forum • Knowledge and confidence to take meaningful action in defense of the environment • The opportunity to design a mentored project of deep interest, improving skills and potentially creating change The Schedule for 2015 Classes, Field Trips and Advocacy Training Empowering Advocates for the Natural World Saturdays and Tuesdays, 8:30–3:30, from late August through November (All classes and field trips held in Marin County) 8/29 Saturday Orientation 9/12 Saturday Geology, Watersheds 9/26 Saturday Advocacy Training 9/29 Tuesday West Marin Agriculture and Mariculture 10/10 Saturday Baylands and Plant Communities 10/20 Tuesday Critical Thinking 10/24 Saturday Open Space/Public Lands 11/3 Tuesday Governance Day 11/14 Saturday Advocacy Speeches 9 classes for $500 (all-inclusive).
