CONCLUSION OF THE DIOCESAN PHASE OF THE CAUSE FOR CANONIZATION June 25, 2019 As we bring the conclusion of this Diocesan phase of the Cause for Canonization, our hope and prayer is that one day Nicholas Black Elk will become one in the Communion of Saints as recognized and named by the Church for his life of heroic virtue and holiness and intercession-Bishop Robert Gruss, homily from the Closing Mass On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Mander- son, SD, Bishop Robert Gruss presided at a Mass celebrating the completion of the diocesan phase of the Cause for Canonization of Servant of God Nicholas Black Elk. At the conclusion of Mass, the final documents were signed, sealed and bound with a red cord, readied to be taken to the Congregation for Causes of Saints in Rome, Italy. Fr. Louis Escalante, the Roman Postulator for the Cause, will deliver the final documents. Nicholas was born in Wyoming on the Little Powder River. See more information on the bulletin insert. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joseph Henry, who is the vice postulator for the Diocese of Cheyenne in the Canonization of Nicho- las Black Elk, has asked for us to pray for this canonization. Happy New Year! Religious Education classes will resume this week. Next weekend we will have the Rite of Acceptance for our RCIA candidates and catechumens. This step officially accepts them for preparation to be- come members of our Church, and we, as a faith community, welcome, support, and pray for them as they continue to prepare for the Sacraments of Initiation and full reception into the Church. The Rite will be at the 10 am mass, and I encourage you to attend and actively participate in this short cere- mony! Faith Formation Fr. Louies Corner The Feast of the Epiphany is one of my favorite feasts, and not just because I was born during the vigil. It is one of our great Christmas stories. We hear of these three great kings, men of faith all, traveling from afar. They follow the light of a star to the true light, Jesus Christ. They arent fooled by the evil King Herod, they go home a different way. It is a beautiful passage for the imagination of a child. Of course, there is much im- agery in the story for us to continually contemplate throughout our lives. Magi were not kings, nor neces- sarily wisemen. They would interpret dreams for the king in Persia. They were often considered to be work- ers of magic and commonly looked down upon. Mat- thew certainly does not portray them in a negative way. Truly, anyone who seeks Jesus and upon finding Him gives him the glory the way the Magi do are blessed indeed!
