EDITOR’S NOTE: On Sunday night, as a part of the HOMEGROWN Series, Rev. Josh Benge brought a powerful message on Living in the Liberty of Christ from Acts 15 and Galatians 2. In the conclusion of his sermon, he shared these “Ten Ways We Love Our Church.” We felt they were worth sharing with you in print this week. Consider the implications of living the “Christ-life” this week. Thank you, Josh for sharing these with us. 1. I don’t love my church because of our size; I love my church because of our Savior. 2. The church is not supposed to argue with the world; we are supposed to marvel at Jesus. 3. Jesus always sees hopeless and hurting people. 4. You can’t hang out with Jesus on a consistent basis and stay the same. 5. If we get people in an environment where they hang out with Jesus, He will change them! 6. The more conscious I am of the work Jesus has yet to do in me, the less critical I am of the work Jesus has yet to do in others. 7. Jesus intentionally put Himself in an environment with people nothing like Him so that they would become like Him. 8. If you need help believing Jesus understands pain and hurt, look no further than the cross. 9. It was and is impossible for religious people to follow Jesus. 10. Sometimes we have to hurt to understand that we need help. ~ Rev. Josh Benge ~ Dustin was born in Hickory, is a graduate of Bandys High School, has attended Fruitland Bible Institute and Lenoir Rhyne University. In August, 2002, Dustin was thrown from a four-wheeler he was riding with his brother, and broke his neck, leaving him a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. GROWING YOUR FAITH

Jesus spent time developing His disciples’ faith because He knew it would be essential for the tasks ahead of them. The Lord has the same goal for us—to increase our faith so we can do the work He has planned for us. This series looks at how God grows our faith through difficult situations that stretch us to believe Him instead of depending upon our own understanding. Sermons include: How God Develops Our Faith, How To Make Wise Decisions, Learning To Wait, How To Cope When Life Is Difficult and more. This six-week series begins Sunday morning, September 8.

LIVING THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS

Everyone has those individuals in their life that can be hard to deal with, whether it's a boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, boss, employee, friend, or relative. In this nine-part sermon series, Dr. Yount takes a look at how to survive relationships God's way. This series will teach you how to live through those difficult relationships in your life. Sermons include: Who Pushes Your Buttons, Six Keys To Relationship Peace, How To Overcome Abusive People, The People-Pleaser Trap and more. Series begins Sunday evening, September 1.

BACK TO THE BASICS (A Study of First John)

Although he was greatly advanced in age when he penned this epistle, John was still actively ministering to churches. He was the sole remaining apostolic survivor who had intimate, eyewitness association with Jesus throughout His earthly ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension. Responding to the crisis of false teaching in his day, the aged apostle wrote to reassure those remaining faithful and to combat this grave threat to the church. John gently, lovingly, but with unquestionable apostolic authority, sent this letter to churches reminding them to return to the basics of the faith. Join us on Wednesdays as Dr. Yount leads us through a verse-by-verse study of this fascinating and heart-warming letter.

For this reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness, brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
