For you as our guest we would like you to join us on a journey through the history of cock-tails. This menu shall give you an insight of a tradition that exists for more then 100 years now and we feel indebted to its pioneers.
Starting with pharmacists like Antoine Pey-chaud who developed the famous Peychaud bitter and even Dr. Johann Siegert who inven-ted the angostura using tropical herbs.
We also need to express gratitude to the seafaring that brought all kind of spirits/spiri-tuous beverages like rum to Europe.
Last but not least we should mention a man with a protruding mustache whose creativity led to formulas/recipes that filled the first bar book “Bartender’s Guide” in 1862, Jerry Tho-mas.

The 19th Century
The industrial development led to great changes in our world and the invention of the automobile, steamboats and railways were significant on the way to new mobility/agi-lity. Dimitri Mendeleev, Russian chemist and inventor credited as the creator of the
periodic table of elements, formulated new state standards for the production of vodka, 1894 new standards were introduced into Russian law. Jerry Thomas wrote the first bar book in 1862. In 1886 Coca Cola was invented by a pharmacist named John Pamberton. On the world fair 1888 in Paris an American bar was set in the US Pavilion that aroused great interest. Absinthe became very popular after the 1860s. It was often linked with violent crimes committed under its influence and was banned first in Switzerland 1900 and in whole Europe and the US latest in 1915.

The Years 1900 – 1940
Marlene Dietrich was born. 1930 she got world famous through her star role in “the blue angel”. Two wars unsettled the world. The prohibition in America led to a bad Blow/setback for the bar culture. Cocktails were still mixed but with bad qua-
lity products. The traditional Whisky was replaced by Gin because it was easier to produce Gin illegally and it doesn’t need to be stored as long as Whisky. For the European Bar culture this prohibition was everything else but bad because Harry Craddock absconded to London and released the Savoy Cocktail book 1930 that is still very popular. Harry McElhone took over the New York Bar in Paris (1923) and renamed it into “Harry’s New York Bar”.

Marlene Dietrich starts her career as a singer and got very famous with her one-woman-show. The Federal Republic of Germany becomes an economic miracle in the 50s. Elvis Presley becomes an icon with Rock n Roll and his very own style
of dancing. In August 1961, the construction of the Berlin wall started. In the US the attempts of the Hippies against war in Vietnam reached its maximum. The Tiki culture comes to the US when Hawaii became the 50th state. Tikibars and Tikidrinks got popular. Classical Tiki-drinks are “Mai Tai” and “Zombie”. Trader Vic released a cocktail book that was the first to include the recipe of the “Mai Tai”.

Longdrinks
There is no exact year when the first longdrinks were created. In the year 1870 Schweppes released the first Ginger Ale, followed by The Indian Tonic Water. Called
Indian Tonic Water, because it got shortly very famous among the British in India. Tonic Water contains quinine, which helps to prevent from Malaria. Because of the bitter taste of Tonic Water, Gin was used as a sweetener. Today the GinTonic, Gin and Tonic or also G&T is still one of the most famous longdrinks. It was also the most beloved drink of the british Queen Mom.

This was bottled especially long matured and stored in oak barrels whiskey from Duncan Taylor. This whiskey comes from the oak cask number 2860th. From this Glen Moray whiskey only 246 bottles were produced. Each bottle is individually numbered. This rare bottling was bottled at cask strength 53.2% vol. bottled.
