Objec&ve: The purpose of this (unorthodox) Growth Hack is to create a mailing list from a targeted Facebook group.
Disclaimer: Using such a mailing list is considered to be SPAM. The members of the targeted Facebook group did not give their consent to receive any emails.
Use this technique wisely. Spamming people will most likely backfire. Therefore, do a thorough analysis of the group you are targeHng (i.e. BabysiJers in New York, French Expats in California, etc.)
This presenta,on was created 09/2014. Facebook might make changes so that this hack will not be working in the future.
1. Find a Facebook group your target segment might be in.
2. Analyze the group. What are the comments / conversaHons about?
3. How can do you make them aware of your product / service without bothering?
4. Keep in mind they will receive an email through Facebook, which might create skepHcism.
Let’s start:
1. Visit a Facebook group and highlight all members.
2. Copy and paste it in an Excel spreadsheet.
1. Clean the spreadsheet. 2. Get rid of the pictures: Edit – Go to… -‐ Special – Objects 3. And delete
Use Cut and Paste to get all informaHon in just one column.
Extract URL using VBA: hJp://howtouseexcel.net/how-‐to-‐extract-‐a-‐url-‐from-‐a-‐hyperlink-‐on-‐excel
1. Copy column B in another tab (Copy – Paste special – Values)
2. Get rid of the blank cells: Edit – Go to… -‐ Special – Blanks 3. Delete (shib cells up)
Now extract the username using the formulas in the yellow cells:

Now copy your emails in a new spreadsheet and save it as a CSV file.

Your created a mailing list of your targeted Facebook group.
By sending an email to the Facebook email, the recipient will receive 2 emails: • Facebook reminder about Facebook email • Your email
