What is the Fairtrade foundation?

• In this presentation, I will be discussing everything which is related to the Fairtrade foundation.

• It is a social organization, aimed to help producers in 3rd world countries or the developing countries to make better trading and to be able to give them a decent amount of money which supports their life conditions and improves their social needs and their country’s economy.

• In addition, the income they will earn would make a great difference to individuals.

Goods arrive and being sold to consumers in Europe and North America and Australia with a fair price.

• Nowadays, many products carry this Fair Trade logo for example: coffee beans, cocoa beans, chocolate, cotton, wine, fruits& vegetables, flowers, honey and gold!

• You can always buy these products from the existing supermarkets, stores and shops. E.g. Asda, Tesco, etc…

A farmer’s life living on the benefit of Fairtrade.

• Name: Augustine Vadyath• Job: Coffee beans Farmer• He is married and has 2 daughters. One of them is 19 years old

studying at a university while another is sixteen attending higher secondary schools.

• He used to sell at a local store and also to people that come to his house to buy different organic coffee beans. But, in the market there is no fixed price.

• Farming is difficult, because of the climate change and the changeable prices. Animals are no more getting used in the production of coffee. Farming and nothing of the farm labour is mechanised.

• So he ignored his coffee plants because he could not meet the costs of production.

Why Fairtrade Foundation is different from any other schemes?

• Most of the other schemes, aim to protect the environment or enable companies to trace their trade.

• On the other hand, Fairtrade focus on helping farmers and workers to improve their lives and their future.
