August/September 2019

Dear Euclid Middle School Parents and Community, On behalf of our staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2019-20 school year. This is Euclid’s 60th anniversary. We are excited to celebrate this milestone throughout the year! I am Cindy Corlett and I am honored to serve as principal of Euclid Middle School. This year will be a year of growth and achievement for our school and for our students as they “become and belong”. The promise of a new year is always full of excitement for everyone. With that excitement comes a bit of nervousness as well, rest assured that is very normal! At Euclid, we provide for these unique needs through academic and affective support systems. By meeting students where they are and developing their strengths, all stu-dents grow and find success as they develop a sense of belonging. To put this belief into action, Euclid is divided into core teams, thus creating smaller learning communi-ties within a larger school setting. Teaming allows students to build relationships with peers and teachers, which as research shows assists in the development of community and increases student learning. Additionally, Euclid offers a robust and developmen-tally appropriate electives/exploratory program. These components align with a true middle school model and support the varying needs of young adolescents. Euclid Middle School is a safe inclusive environment where students grow, learn, and thrive. We are thrilled to welcome a new class of enthusiastic 6th grade students to our school and transition the 7th and 8th grade students to a new grade level. To begin the year in a positive way, we offer WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Be-longs”. WEB is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 6th graders and new students and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience at Euclid. We also explore the 4 Core Values of Challenge, Community, Choice, and Character through the Every Student a Leader program. This program provides opportunities for student choice, service projects and outreach opportunities. The positive community and culture at Euclid Middle School is developed using the Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program, called Be REAL (Be Respectful, Excellent, Accepting and a Leader). It is a proactive ap-proach to establish behavioral supports needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Through Be REAL, positive behavior is rec-ognized and rewarded on teams and throughout the school community. Additionally, we are continuing the Sources of Strength program and will participate in opportuni-ties to provide social/emotional support for all students at Euclid. The 2019-20 school year will present many exciting opportunities for us to work col-laboratively as a community while striving for excellence. It is well known that stu-dents thrive when families are actively involved in the educational experience. The partnership between home and school is an integral part of student success in growth and achievement. The Euclid staff is dedicated to building connections and relation-ships that assist us in maintaining a community feel that values and supports the unique needs of each student. Please note that our Back to School night is Thursday, August 22nd beginning at 6:30 PM.

School and Student Safety 8:30 am arrival and 4:00 pm departure

Students often come early or stay late at school for super-vised activities. In order to maintain a safe and orderly environment, we ask that students only remain after school under teacher or parent supervision. The cafeteria and breakfast program is supervised from 8:30 - 8:50 am. It is requested that all students waiting for a ride home be picked up by 4:00 pm unless they are staying for an after school supervised activity. Late buses will leave Euclid at 5:10 PM starting on Wednesday, August 21. They will run Monday through Thursday. There are no late buses on Friday.

Core Team Placement When your child receives their schedule for the 2019-2020 school year you will be notified of their Core Team placement. The criteria for placing students at Euclid Middle School are:

The Student Learning Profile (SLP). This was in the April newsletter.

Balance of academic needs

Balance in special education

Balance in gifted education

Teacher recommendations

Balance in gender

Assessment Data (iREADY, CMAS) identifying in-dividual needs

Staffing considerations

Counselors and administration spend a large amount of time to achieve balance in all these areas. The infor-mation you provided on your child, as well as any notes you wrote, gave tremendous assistance in the Core place-ment of your child.

Check Policy Littleton Public Schools (LPS) uses Global Payments Check Recovery Services to facilitate the collection of returned checks due to non-sufficient funds (NSF) and closed bank accounts. Returned checks issued to LPS will reach Global Payments approximately 30 days from the date on which the check was written.

Please note the following: Non-sufficient funds check – In most cases your personal bank will have notified you of this returned check. You will have received this notification prior to our receipt at LPS of the original returned check. You are encouraged to contact the recipient (school / department / program) and make arrangements to settle the amount due. Settle-ment of the check prior to our submission of the check to Global Payments is your only opportunity to avoid the collection process and fees.

Closed account check – Although every effort is made to deposit checks within two weeks of receipt by LPS, please check with your bank to ensure that every check written has cleared prior to closing an account. Our staff will be happy to assist you in determining the status of a check on an account you anticipate closing.

The collection process is similar to the one used to collect returned checks for local retailers. The key steps in this process are: 1. The returned check will be entered into the Global Pay-

ments data bank. This will affect the ability of the check writer to pay with checks at local retailers.

2. Subsequently, a Global Payments representative will attempt to contact the check writer by phone and/or by mail to make arrangements for payment of the returned check plus a fee (minimum fee of $40.00).

3. After 45 days, Global Payments may report the re-turned check to all three major credit bureaus.

4. After 60 days, Global Payments may opt to litigate to recover face value of the check plus collection fees.

If you have questions, please contact our bookkeeper at 303-347-7801. Thank you for your cooperation.
