STEP INSIDE HISTORY!
CURATED TOURS, GARDEN WALKS AND TALKSHistorically Charleston was known for its spring gardens but now Charlestonians are gardening year round. There is much to savor and appreciate, which is why Charleston is often called a garden set in a city. New this year is a series of tours that take guests into private gardens rarely open to the public. A professional designer or landscape architect and a horticulturist will lead guests through gardens focusing on the challenges and triumphs of gardening in the Lowcountry. Tickets are limited. $100 per person.
• Wednesday, October 10, 2 p.m.• Wednesday, October 17, 2 p.m.• Wednesday, October 24, 2 p.m.

PHOTOGRAPHY WALKABOUT AND WORKSHOP Friday, October 5, 12, 19 & 26, 9 a.m.- noonRichard D. Spencer has studied the city and learned the best times to photograph the many architectural elements and details in the historic district. Choose from Invention of Wings, Ironwork of Charleston, and ABCs of Architecture Tours. Each tour is limited to 20 guests and cost $25 per person. "In walking about Charleston, I was reminded of some of the older country towns in England, the appearance of the city is highly picturesque,.. every house seems built to the owner's particular taste; and in one street you seem to be in an old English town, and in
another in some continental city of France or Italy. This variety is extremely pleasing to the eye." Fannie Kemble 1838-39
