2017 DVMA CAR SHOW After 9 months of planning, calling, scrounging, cajoling and finger-crossing (mainly by Jim Blair, Car Show Planner Extraordi-
naire) our yearly car show was a tremendous success. Changing the venue to the parking lot of the Cobra Experience in Martinez
turned out to be a great choice and almost all the participants were happy with the abundance of shade and the nice eating area up
top. As yet we don’t know the amount that will be donated to our charity, Bay Area Crisis Nursery, but it should be a generous
amount. Many, many thanks to our financial supporters, Tom Cruze at Delta Bay Mustangs who donated ALL the trophies, Rob
Brandt at Bill Brandt Ford in Brentwood who gave a very generous “seed money” check, and to the Cobra Experience who coordi-
nated with us for a well thought out, smoothly-run show. Then, of course, there are our tireless club members who got up at the
crack of dawn getting things set up (especially Dave Wallace, our trusty work horse) and, once again, to Jim Blair who, honestly,
did the majority of the work prior to show day. It truly was a great day. Thank you everyone!!
Car shows run on donuts and coffee!!

NASCAR Race Weekend Party—we’re invited!
Our club has been invited to attend a launch party for one of NASCAR’s newest Cup Series race drivers, Tommy Regan, who will
be driving his debut race in Sonoma Raceway’s big race the next day. It’s to be held at the Concord Hilton, 1970 Diamond Blvd,
Concord on Saturday June 24 from 3-8pm. The organizers have reached out to a few car clubs that love the sound of a roaring
engine and we sure fit that bill! It’s FREE but the organizers have asked for a head count to plan for food and such. This is an
opportunity to meet and take photos with a NASCAR driver, win prizes, show off your ride and enjoy a fun Saturday afternoon in
the sunshine.. Contact Harry or John by JUNE 16 to let us know if you plan to join the party. Don’t miss this!
It’s Car Show Season Again
Here we are going into the sixth month of the year and things are looking good!
May started the Car Show circuit with the DVMA May 6 Show being a fun and
successful Show. The Board will decide in June what amounts will be donated
to the Contra Costa/Solano Food Bank and to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery. Our
weather has warmed up, and the rain has gone away. It is time to dust off your
car and enjoy summer and car events. I had the pleasure of participating in the
Golden Hills Show in Suisun on May 20. That Show was well attended by our
members and I received a plaque for my car! Sign up for the VMOA Car Show
on June 17.
If you as a member would like to run or organize any events, see John to make a
plan and keep event dates separate. And of course it isn’t too early to think
about running for a Board position with DVMA. Summer will go quickly and
then there will be elections in August. Be a part of the future of DVMA!
You will see information about a NASCAR Race Weekend Party in Concord on
June 24. I sure hope you are able to attend. Please respond to an email asking
about attendance because the organizer needs a headcount and specially invited
DVMA members!
Enjoy breakfast on June 3 with DVMA members. Have a wonderful month and
I will see you at our meeting on June 14.
Freedom High PTSA Car Show, April 22
By Ed Guldner
April 22, Freedom High PTSA Car Show
The Freedom High School PTSA car show was a small event with about 35 cars. There were 3 Mus-tangs, Rusty and Marlene Hill’s white coupe, my 65 and a red 66 fastback belonging to the CEO of the Delta Schools Federal Credit Union. There were lots of raffle prizes, I won 4, but Rusty and Marlene didn’t win anything. Marlene lamented that if they didn’t win a raffle prize they would win the Fire Truck Pedal Car. Guess who’s name was called? Rusty’s! Best of Show was a very yellow, very sharp ‘41 Willys hot rod..

Golden Hills really does things up rightt Even the CHP loves the Mustang!
Golden Hills on May 20 by Karen Davis
What a beautiful location and a great show! Parking was on the
grass, near the river and with some shade trees. Beautiful cars and
great to see the variety of vehicles on display. Even the works in
progress were unbelievable. There were many raffle prizes to be
won, and lots of vendors. The show was well organized and Gold-
en Hills members showed their cars as Display Only and were not
eligible for awards. This is an annual show that is first class, so
plan on attending next year. Some of our DVMA members were
there: JT and Danielle Aquilina, Brian Loer, Jim and Belinda
Blair, Lou Cooper and Harry Davis. Ask DVMA members to
show their award plaques!

Other members did various duties and everyone had a great time. There were about 150 people, with a net revenue of about $2747. The Board will decide about distribution of funds to the Food Bank and the Crisis Center. WATER POLO GIRLS UPDATE.
In March 2016, Harry announced that he is coaching a water polo team at Pittsburg High School. Those players are now in the swim
program as well as the fledgling water polo team at Pittsburg HS in 2016. Harry detailed plans for the 2017 water polo program,
including balls, goals, shot clock and scoreboard. DVMA members made fantastic donations totaling $260 to the upcoming 2017
water polo team.
In July 2016, Leeza Davis and Alyssa Beltran spoke to DVMA members about their water polo dreams and the team they were put-
ting together for 2017. DVMA members quickly donated an additional $130.
As details were coming together at Pittsburg HS for the water polo 2017 team, the newly appointed Athletic Director made some new
requirements. The end result was that the new Athletic Director cancelled the water polo program at Pittsburg High School.
On April 21, 2017, the members of the first 2016 team gathered together to celebrate the year of 2016. Some graduating members
were unable to attend, having enlisted in the Navy and Army, gone to school back East, and moved forward with their dreams. You
can see photos of the team that were able to enjoy pizza, family, and some Pittsburg Pirates water polo jackets celebrating the 2016
team they enjoyed, with the help of all DVMA member donated monies.
