The Finch - Quick Start GuideHow to Install the Finch Robot v2.5.1 on Metatrader4

Hi, Rob Booker here.

This guide will give you step-by-step instructions for downloading and installing the Finch Robot on Metatrader 4, and subsequently how to run it on your platform.

So, let’s get started.

Before we get started, you must have a version of Metatrader4 that supports the MQL4 programming language. The Finch Trading robot is built on MQL4, so they won’t work on MQL5.

Here’s a quick way to check to see if your version of Metatrader supports MQL4:

• Click on File in the upper left side of the screen• Double-click on Open Data Folder. A separate page will open with a file directory.• Look for MQL4. If you see MQL5, then switch to a version that supports MQL4.

Just ask your broker to get Metatrader4 with MQL4. Most reputable brokers should be able to provide you with a download link for Metatrader4 with MQL4.

Need a broker? Here are a couple of links:

In the USA: IG Markets USOutside the USA: CLM Forex Now that we have verified that we have the proper version of Metatrader4 installed, it’s time to log on to the Members Section of RobBooker.com.

First, let’s download the Finch Robot

The file you will be downloading will be Finch_2.5.1.zip. Remember where you’ve saved the file.

After you download the Finch it is in a ZIP file format and needs to be extracted(unzipped) before it can be copied into Metatrader4.

Once extracted it will have a EX4 file extension, that is the file that needs to be used.

Now, open Metatrader 4. At the top of the left of the menu screen, you should see the word “File”. Click on that.

Once the “Experts” folder is open, drag the robot file you downloaded - and put it into the “Experts” folder.

Now your robot is “installed” on MT4

To view your robot on MT4, just follow these steps:

• Go to the “Navigator” panel • Right-click on “Expert Advisors”• Click “Refresh”, and your robot will appear on the list.

Click on the item “Open Data Folder”.

Now open the folder called “MQL4”.

Now. open the folder called “Experts”

Here is how it will look:

Loading the Finch Robot on to your ChartsTo load a robot onto your chart, drag the robot from the “Navigator” panel onto your chart. To drag the file, hover over it with your mouse, click and hold the left mouse button, and then drag the robot on to your chart.

Alternatively, you can go to the Navigator, right-click on The Finch v2.5.1 and select “Attach to chart”.

After you drag the robot on to your chart, a “Settings” window will pop up. Close that window for now. We’ll get to that later.

Once the robot is on your chart, you will see the name of the robot in the upper right-hand side of your chart.

But that doesn’t mean it’s active or taking trades.

If you see a “smiley face” next to the robot name, then the robot is active and looking for trades.

If you do not see a “smiley face” icon, then check for two things:

• Look at the “Auto Trading” button at the top of the MT4 menu and make sure it’s green.

Left click on the “smiley face” or “frowny face” icon, and your robot settings will pop up.

Now click on the “Common” tab. Make sure that “Allow live trading” is checked.

If your robot still has a frowny face after checking these two things, call your broker. Make sure to ask if your broker allows you to trade with robots (expert advisors) on your account. If they say “yes”, tell them your platform is giving you a frowny face no matter what.

Playing around with robot settings/inputsEvery robot has “settings”. These are also called “inputs”. These settings control when it opens trades, the trade size, profit target and more.

WARNING: Before you start playing with new settings, keep note of (or save) your favorite settings that you are using right now.

To view the settings window, left-click on the smiley (or frowny) face on your chart. As a second option to open the settings for the Finch, Right-Click on the chart, scroll down to Expert Advisors then select “Properties”.

Here’s what the settings or inputs will look like:

These inputs control what the robot does, and when it does it.

Don’t get caught up in each of the settings above. I only want to mention a few of them that are universal to all of our robots.

1. WARNING: Robot trading carries risks. Most traders lose money (even with robots). Run all robots in a demo account first.

2. “Magic”. This is the robot’s “magic number”. You will probably never need to change this. This number simply helps the robot remember which trades it took, and it can distinguish between the robot’s trades and your own discretionary trades. But I still want to warn you - you should separate your robot and discretionary trading into two accounts.

3. “Slippage” This tells a robot NOT to take trades if the price is slipping in a fast-moving market.

Page 8: The Finch - Quick Start Guide - ROB BOOKERThe Finch Trading robot is built on MQL4, so they won’t work on MQL5. Here’s a quick way to check to see if your version of Metatrader

4. “Max Spread”: This tells the robot not to take trades if the spread widens too far (for example, during news).

You can learn about the other settings/inputs when you learn about each of the individual robots.

One thing you might want to note is when you add the Finch 2.5.1 to a chart it will change the color to a light blue and it is difficult to see the Finch in the corner, So, here’s what you will see.

1. No trades background is a light blue, 2. Purple is 1 open trade and 3. Gold is 2 open trades, Which is also the maximum # of trades at one time on

one currency pair

NOTE : If your robot is running on your chart, with an open trade, and youopen the settings/inputs window and make changes, your robot will nowstart to manage the trade with the new settings.

That’s it for installing the Finch robot. Make sure to review our other modules to learn backtesting strategies and more.
